02:27, 12 April 2021Maya's pov:
Maya woke up with a pounding headache and bright lights hitting her face. As she opened her eyes, she looked around and took in her surroundings. Maya was in a small room with white walls. There was a single window on the far side, but Maya would tell that the glass was reinforced and bulletproof. She was laying on a single twin bed with a matching gray pillow and gray blanket.
There was a little door at the corner of the room that Maya could see led to a small bathroom. Maya looked up at the ceiling and noticed a small camera at the corner of the room which gave a clear view of the entire room but not the bathroom. Maya rolled her eyes, at least they somewhat respected privacy. Maya stood up from the bed and tried to stretch her arms out, only to find that they were cuffed together.
She sighed and walked over to a small brown cabinet in the other corner of the room and looked through the drawers, she wasn't surprised to find them empty. As Maya was walking back to sit down on the bed, there was a knock on the door. Maya sat down on the bed and the door opened. Bucky Barnes walked into the room and closed the door behind him.
"Glad to see you're awake kid. Gotta say you've got one hell of a punch." Bucky chuckled. Maya just rolled her eyes and lay down on her back so she was now facing the ceiling.
"Is there anything you need? Anything I can get you?" He asked but she stayed silent.
"Listen, kid, we don't want to hurt you," He said in a calm voice and she finally turned her face to look at him but didn't say anything.
"What's your name?" he asked her but she didn't respond and he sighed.
"We don't want to hurt anyone. We just need a little information and then we'll leave both you and your friend alone." He tried to persuade her. Maya thought about it, She wasn't going to give the Avengers anything valuable, but a first name wouldn't hurt. She hated that he kept calling her kid.
"Maya," she said in a flat and calm voice. Bucky looked up confused.
"What?" he asked.
"My name," she said in the same dull boring tone. Bucky smiled at her.
"Thank you, Maya," he said and she nodded once.
"Is it ok if I leave you here alone for a few minutes?" he asked but she just shrugged. Bucky walked out of the room closing the door behind him and Maya heard the door lock. Maya let out a sigh and closed her eyes. What would Ash think if she knew where she was? What would Ash do? Maya tried to think of a plan to escape but she doubted that she would be able to escape on her own. Instead, she focused on keeping her mind blank so they wouldn't be able to get anything out of her.
It was a few minutes before there was another knock on the door and Maya opened her eyes again. Bucky walked into the room again and closed the door behind him. Maya noticed he was holding a file in his hands.
"I'm going to ask you some questions," he said in a way that she could refuse, but she just shrugged.
"How old are you Maya?" Maya stayed laying down on the bed and contemplated how much to tell him.
"Your friend killed almost every agent at a Hydra base without so much as a scratch on her, so I'll ask you again, How old are you?" His voice wasn't angry but Maya could tell he was getting impatient.
"Nineteen," she said calmly, just to see what she could get away with. Bucky looked at her for a few seconds before clearing his throat.
"Why do I feel like you're lying?"
"You don't know anything," Maya snarled.
"I know that your little friend is enhanced, I know that she does missions for the highest bidder, I know that she managed to take down one of the best fighters on this team, and I know that you probably don't want her to get hurt." Bucky was looking at Maya, clearly waiting for her to give a reaction, but Maya just stayed silent, looking at the ceiling. "Did I leave anything out?"
"My age," Maya smirked.
Bucky rolled his eyes. "How old are you kid?" He asked again, his voice rising slightly.
"Old enough for you to stop calling me kid." Maya shot back and Bucky sighed.
"Listen, Maya, you have to work with me here."
"Actually, I don't HAVE to do anything" Maya sat up and looked Bucky dead in the eye. Bucky looked taken aback. Maya suspected that he wasn't used to people talking to the Winter Soldier like this, but growing up with Ash, Maya had already seen it all.
"Why do you even care?" Maya asked, glaring at Bucky "Just because my friend happens to have cool tricks doesn't mean she's evil. Not like she wants world domination or anything"
"Does she want world domination?" Bucky asked and Maya scoffed
"No of course not, that's disgusting" Maya rolled her eyes as Bucky chuckled.
"We just need to ensure that your friend isn't a threat," Bucky said calmly but Maya scoffed again
"When has she ever done anything to make you think she is a threat? How does the saying go? Innocent until proven guilty?" Maya was getting angry but she kept her voice calm and her face still. She wasn't going to let the Avengers push her around.
"She killed almost every agent at the Hydra base-"
"You guys would have done the same thing. In all honesty, you should be thanking her, she made your life easier." Maya crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"No normal person would be able to do that."
"I thought we already agreed that she wasn't normal." Maya was getting very annoyed. Not only was this integration a complete waste of time, but the world's mightiest heroes were being complete idiots.
"What is her name?" Bucky asked, but Maya just stood up and walked over to the window. She stood facing the window with her back to Bucky and stayed quiet.
"Do you have any other family?" Maya knew that Bucky was pushing his luck but she ignored it.
"Maybe," she said casually trying not to get Liam involved in this.
"So yes? You do." Bucky tried to confirm but Maya just shrugged. Bucky opened the file that he was holding and set it down on the bed. Maya walked over to the bed and looked down at the file. There was a picture of her and Ash sitting at a booth at Starbucks. Maya silently cursed herself for being so careless.
"Which one of you is older?" Bucky asked, keeping his gaze on Maya who was still looking down at the file.
"I am." Maya said. She decided that maybe if she gave them a little information only then they would leave her alone.
"Is this what she really looks like?" Bucky asked, pointing down at the picture.
"No" Maya answered blankly and Bucky nodded, picking up the file again.
"Well I think that's enough for now, can I get you anything to eat or drink?"
"Water." Bucky left the room and locked the door behind him. Maya was too nervous to actually drink anything but she remembered from the blueprints she had once shown Ash that the kitchen was on floor 45. So the amount of time it took Bucky to come back with her drink would give her an estimate of where she was in the tower. Maya sat down on the bed and counted the minutes in her head. Finally, there was another knock on the door and Bucky walked in again carrying a water bottle. He placed it on the cabinet in the corner and turned to leave again.
"Seventeen," Bucky just stared at her. "I'm seventeen." Bucky smiled at her and left the room again and locked it. Maya sighed, she decided to give him a small amount of the truth, maybe then he wouldn't be so pushy. Maya did some math in her head and came to the conclusion that she was either on level 24 or level 66. She hoped it was the first one because then she might have a better chance of getting out of here.
She tried looking out the window to see how far she was from the ground but the only thing she could see from the window was the sky. Maya knew that Ash was probably wondering what was taking her so long to get home. She didn't worry about Liam, Ash would protect him, Maya was sure of that.
Bucky's pov:
Bucky left the room and sighed, That kid's comebacks could rival Tony's. He made his way to the living room where the rest of the team were watching the footage from the camera in Maya's room.
"I'll be honest, the girl's scary as hell," said Sam who was holding an ice pack up to his broken nose.
"If she's this hard to crack then imagine how hard the other girl will be," Nat said as she took another sip of the coffee she was drinking.
"Seems like she's starting to open up," said Steve hopefully.
"I don't think so," said Bucky as he sat down on the couch next to Steve.
"I'll talk to her," said Tony, and everyone gave him pointed looks. "What? I got some questions that need to be answered," he stated in a matter-of-fact tone and left the room.
"This should be good," Clint said as everyone turned their heads back to the screen.
