Chapter 5 : Trouble

05:47, 5 November 2024

Mirae's POV

"Kang Mirae-ssi!"

I froze at my spot as I knew it very well to whom that voice belonged to.

I backed up as he walked towards me till my back reached the wall and his face got dangerously close to mine.

"You-"

"I'll pretend I didn't see anything earlier. I really didn't!" I quickly said.

"So you saw everything." He scoffed but then glared back at me with his piercing gaze. "Just stay away from my personal matters. It'll be the best for you." I nervously nodded.

By saying that, he walked away. I breathed out heavily when he was gone. "He's so scary!... My heart was about to explode then."

I somehow calmed myself down and headed out of the company.

"Mirae-ah!" Jiwoo unnie called me. I went to them. "We're going to have dinner together. Wanna join?"

"Ah..."

"Let's go, It's your first day here after all," Seungwoo-ssi said. "It's my treat."

"Okay."

Then we went to a nice BBQ restaurant which was not that far from the company.

Soon the food arrived and we started eating. The food was really delicious. I was so happy to eat meat after so many days, maybe a whole year as I used to eat ramyeon everyday.

"Enjoy your food." Jiwoo unnie passed me some pieces of grilled meat.

"Thank you, unnie."

"Mirae-ah!" I looked at Seungwoo-ssi. "Since you're the youngest among us, we'll treat you as our younger sister. And feel free to tell us if you need anything."

I smiled. "Yes, I will."

"Now raise your glasses." We all did as he said. "Geonbae!"

We clinked our glasses and chugged down the content in one go. I wasn't that of a good drinker so I drank only half of the glass.

I looked at them for a while as they chatted with each other. We were eight, including me. Jiwoo unnie and me were the only female bodyguards among us.

But all of them were very friendly that I didn't feel awkward with them. It felt like I was having dinner with my family.

I wish my real family was with me too...

"Mirae-ah," Jiwoo unnie said, shaking me.

"Huh?"

"Is something wrong?"

"Aniyo. Everything's okay."

She passed me some more pieces of meat. "Then eat up."

"Unnie, I'm full. I can't eat anymore."

"Just some more pieces... I grilled it nicely for you."

"Thanks, unnie." I smiled.

***

"You sure you can go from here?" Jiwoo unnie asked.

"Yes. My house is just two blocks away."

"Okay then. See you tomorrow."

She waved at me before entering the car. I bowed to them before they drove away.

I safely walked back home after stumbling all the way and bumping into an electricity pole.

I plopped on my bed, closing my eyes. "Today was a tiring day..." And soon I fell asleep.

***

The next day, I woke up to the sound of my ringtone. It was an unknown number but I still picked it up.

"Hello?"

"It's me, Choi San."

I jolted up on my bed on hearing the name. "Choi San-ssi?"

"Uh, come to the company right now."

"But we don't have any schedules today as far as I remember."

"It was planned at the last minute. I'll give you five minutes to reach here."

"What? Five minutes?"

"Your time starts now."

"But Choi San-ssi... H-Hello..." He ended the call.

"How can I reach there in just five minutes? Ah, seriously!..."

Unwillingly, I jumped out of my bed and rushed to the bathroom.

***

I entered the company, panting hard. But I was already late. I asked a staff about San and she said that he would be at the dance studio.

With some struggles of finding the dance studio, I was finally able to reach there. I knocked on the door before entering into the room.

I saw San practicing some dance moves there alone. He turned to face me when he saw me coming.

"You're late," he said.

"It takes a fifteen minute ride from my home to here then how could I come here in just five minutes?"

I tried to be polite as much as I could to him, but it was enough of a trouble for me this morning.

"And I asked Ms. Song about the schedule and confirmed that you don't have any schedules today." I folded my arms.

"I thought I had one today." He rubbed the back of his neck while saying that. "Did I look at tomorrow's schedule?"

I rolled my eyes. "I'll get going then."

"Wait!" I sighed before turning back to face him. "Have you done your breakfast?"

"What?"
