The decision

03:00, 22 November 2024

The days following their conversation felt heavy with unspoken words and unshed emotions. Jisung couldn't shake the unease that clung to him after Minho's warning, despite the comfort of his presence. He stayed away, just as Minho had asked, but each day spent apart only deepened the conflict in his heart. He didn't want to be the person to distance himself from Minho, but the gravity of the situation—of the danger that lurked just beyond their grasp—made everything feel impossibly complicated.

It was Friday evening when Jisung's phone buzzed. He had been studying all afternoon, trying to distract himself from the unease swirling inside him. He hadn't seen Minho for three days. Three long, silent days since that conversation, and Jisung could feel the gap between them growing wider, like an invisible thread that stretched thinner with each passing second.

Minho: I'm coming over. I need to talk to you.

Jisung's heart skipped in his chest. His fingers hovered over the screen, unsure of how to respond. The last time they had talked, Minho had asked for space, for Jisung to stay away for his own safety. And now, Minho was asking to see him again.

What did this mean? Was it good news or bad?

Jisung didn't want to wait for an answer. He couldn't.

Jisung: I'm waiting for you.

When Minho arrived, there was something different in his expression. Gone was the calm, collected facade. In its place was something raw, something torn between two worlds.

He stood in the doorway for a long moment, his gaze fixed on Jisung as if weighing something in his mind. Finally, he stepped inside, and for the first time since their conversation, there was no barrier between them. No wall.

"I couldn't stay away," Minho said quietly, his voice full of quiet urgency.

Jisung's heart beat faster at the words. "What happened? What's going on?"

Minho ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated, but his eyes never left Jisung's. "There's been a shift in my world. People I've trusted for a long time are starting to make moves. It's getting worse. And I can't keep you away anymore. I need you, Jisung. But I also need you to understand that this isn't going to be easy."

Jisung's stomach tightened, the words hanging heavily in the air. "You're asking me to be part of your world again," he whispered, barely able to hold the weight of what Minho was saying.

Minho nodded, his eyes steady but full of something darker. "I'm not asking you to fight, Jisung. I'm asking you to stay by my side. But things are going to get... difficult. I need you to make a choice."

Jisung blinked, trying to process the sudden shift in Minho's demeanor. "A choice?" he repeated, his voice hoarse.

Minho stepped closer, his gaze never wavering. "I can't protect you from everything. There's a part of this life that no matter how much I want to shield you from it, it's going to find its way into our lives. If you choose to stay with me, you need to know what you're getting into. You need to be ready for whatever comes next."

Jisung took a deep breath, feeling the weight of Minho's words settle in his chest like a stone. He had always known the risks. Minho's world wasn't a simple one, and Jisung couldn't pretend that he didn't know the danger that came with it. But the idea of losing Minho, of not being part of his life, terrified him more than the threats he was facing.

"What happens if I say yes?" Jisung asked, his voice steady despite the storm of emotions inside him.

Minho's eyes softened, a hint of relief breaking through his guarded expression. "If you say yes, then we face this together. I won't ask you to hide away, Jisung. I'll keep you close. And I'll do everything in my power to protect you from whatever's coming."

Jisung thought about it for a long moment, his heart pounding in his chest. He had always prided himself on being in control, on making decisions based on logic and reason. But this wasn't a decision that could be made with a clear mind.

This was a decision made with the heart.

"I want to be with you, Minho," Jisung said, his voice steady and sure. "I'm scared, and I don't know what's going to happen, but I don't want to walk away from you. I'm in. I'll stay."

Minho's face softened into a smile, the kind of smile that made Jisung's heart flutter with warmth. He stepped forward and pulled Jisung into an embrace, holding him tight, as if trying to protect him from everything in the world that could hurt him.

"You don't know how much this means to me," Minho whispered against Jisung's hair. "I'll make sure you never regret this. You'll never have to face this alone, I promise."

Jisung closed his eyes, letting the words sink in. He didn't know what the future held, didn't know how they would navigate the dangerous path ahead. But one thing was certain—he wasn't walking it alone.

Later that night, they sat on the couch, the weight of their conversation lingering between them. Jisung rested his head on Minho's shoulder, the familiar comfort of his presence a balm to the anxiety that had been building inside him.

For the first time in days, Jisung allowed himself to relax, knowing that whatever came next, they would face it together.

Minho's arm was wrapped around him, his warmth seeping into Jisung's skin, grounding him in the present moment. The world outside was chaotic, full of threats and uncertainties, but in that moment, with Minho by his side, Jisung knew he had made the right choice.

It wasn't going to be easy. The road ahead was filled with danger, and there would be times when they both questioned their decisions. But Jisung was ready. Ready to face whatever came next, as long as Minho was by his side.

"I'm not going anywhere," Jisung whispered, his voice barely audible.

Minho smiled, his hand gently brushing through Jisung's hair. "I know. And I'll never let you go either."

And in that moment, Jisung knew he had found something worth fighting for.
