The unexpected collision
00:19, 18 November 2024The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, casting soft golden light over the busy city streets. Jisung, a focused and somewhat frantic final-year medical student, sprinted down the sidewalk, his heavy backpack bouncing with each hurried step. He was late. Again.
His phone was pressed against his ear, his best friend Felix's voice faintly coming through the speaker, "Jisung, you know you're not supposed to be late! It's the last semester, come on! The professors are gonna eat you alive."
"I know! I know, Felix! It's just... the bus was late, and I lost track of time studying for my exams," Jisung huffed, glancing at his watch. He was really cutting it close now.
As he rounded a corner, weaving through the busy crowd of pedestrians, something-or rather, someone-suddenly stepped into his path.
Bam!
The impact knocked him back, sending a jolt of pain through his body. Jisung's coffee spilled slightly, splashing on the ground, and he stumbled backward, barely catching himself.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" Jisung's voice was a mix of frustration and embarrassment as he looked up. The man who'd been in his way was tall, intimidatingly so, with sharp, icy eyes and a confident stance that practically screamed danger. His black suit hugged his broad frame, and despite the fact that it was a chilly morning, he seemed completely unfazed.
"Watch where you're going, kid," the man said with a low, almost amused voice. His gaze lingered on Jisung for a moment, sharp as a knife.
Jisung's heart skipped a beat. There was something about him-something intense, like the kind of person you'd see in movies, one who operated in the shadows. He quickly shook off the thought, too flustered to focus on it.
"I'm so sorry," Jisung apologized again, nervously bending down to pick up his fallen coffee cup. But as he did, he noticed something else on the ground. His ID card. He quickly grabbed it, but in his hurry, he fumbled and accidentally dropped it again, right near the man's feet without even realizing.
"I didn't mean to cause any trouble," Jisung said, his voice a little breathless as he gave the man a quick bow of apology.
The stranger just stood there for a moment, studying him with an unreadable expression. There was something about the way his lips twitched ever so slightly that sent a shiver down Jisung's spine, though he couldn't quite place it.
"You're in a rush," the man observed coolly, his voice suddenly much softer, as if noticing Jisung's panic for the first time. "Be careful next time."
Jisung blinked, surprised at the gentleness in the man's tone. "Right! Sorry again! Have a good day!" He turned quickly, practically jogging away, not wanting to be late for his class.
But as he rushed off, something strange tugged at his chest. Why had the man's gaze felt so... possessive? But Jisung didn't have time to dwell on it. His mind was already back on his medical lectures, Felix's teasing voice ringing in his ear.
Minho watched the young man hurry off, his steps light but hurried, and for a moment, he couldn't help but be intrigued. It was rare for someone to bump into him-most people tended to avoid him, their instincts telling them that the mafia don wasn't someone to be trifled with.
But there was something different about Jisung. His eyes were wide with panic, his face flushed with embarrassment. He wasn't afraid, and that caught Minho off guard. It was a strange, almost endearing sight.
And then, Minho noticed the ID card that Jisung had left behind. Without a second thought, he picked it up, his sharp eyes scanning the name.
Han Jisung, it read.
A small smile tugged at the corner of Minho's lips, though he quickly masked it with a stoic expression. Something about the boy's energy intrigued him, and Minho had a feeling he wouldn't be letting this one slip away so easily.
Meanwhile, Jisung finally arrived at his lecture hall, winded and slightly disheveled. He quickly sat down at his desk, still feeling the remnants of that strange encounter with the man from earlier. He couldn't shake the feeling that something about him had been off-yet, oddly comforting.
"Dude, you look like you've seen a ghost," Felix teased, leaning over from his desk with a raised eyebrow. "You're late, and now you're all flushed. Who was it? A cute guy?"
Jisung blushed at the teasing, brushing it off with a nervous laugh. "No way. I just ran into someone on the street. He was a little... intimidating."
Felix looked interested. "Intimidating? How? Was he hot?"
"I don't know, Felix, just... forget it," Jisung muttered, grabbing his notebook and trying to focus on the lecture. He still had a lot to get through before finals.
Back in the shadows of the city, Minho's phone buzzed in his pocket. It was Chan, one of his closest friends and trusted allies.
"You good?" Chan's voice crackled through the line.
Minho glanced at the ID card in his hand once more, the corners of his mouth curving up just slightly. "I think I found something interesting," he replied, his tone soft but laced with an edge. "Something... worth keeping an eye on."
Chan chuckled knowingly. "You don't mean that kid you bumped into, do you? The one who almost ran you over?"
Minho didn't respond immediately, his eyes narrowing in thought as he pocketed the card. "Maybe. We'll see how things unfold."
As the morning passed, Jisung tried to shake off the encounter, but deep down, he couldn't ignore the strange feeling that had stirred within him. He had a gut feeling he'd see the man again, and something told him that their worlds were about to collide in ways he couldn't even begin to imagine.
And maybe, just maybe, he was starting to look forward to it.
