I don't own Death Note

Matt's POV
Mello and I stared at the door. That was possible the weirdest occurrence we had had all month. First, some random new girl bursts into our room, which by the way is like signing your own death warrant with Mello around, and then she yells at us. Mello fights her and loses, something that Mellos don't generally do ever, unless Near is involved, and then she throws chocolate at us.
I shrugged at Mello, and we walked downstairs to dinner. That night's dinner was steak, potatoes, and carrots. There's a salad bar too, but the bowls are so small, that it's either refill it a billion times or don't even bother. Strawberries for dessert. Mello looked at them, frowning. I could tell he wished they were chocolate covered. In general, the more chocolate something has, the more Mello likes it.
I spotted the new girl across the room. She looked at the steak strangely, and then walked to the salad bar. One of the other girls, Linda, was making an effort to be nice to her, because she was new.
"Are you sure you don't want steak? The salad bowls are pretty small..." Linda started.
"Sorry," said the new girl, "But I'm a vegetarian."
"Oh... sorry." Linda said awkwardly. New girl walked over to the salad bar. I got my dinner, and sat at my usual table, with Mello. The dining hall is set up with a bunch of small tables, all big enough to seat 3 or four. You establish your table early on; Mello and I had had ours for years. There weren't any empty tables. There were random seats open here and there, but they were consumed by the packs.
The packs are ridiculously competitive kids who stick together for the single and sole purpose or picking on the others in order to try to get to the top. New girl finished getting her salad, and looked around for a place to sit. She didn't see any free tables, and sort of frowned. I almost felt sorry for her, and would have told her to sit with us, but she and Mello would probably kill each other before dinner was over.
I looked down at my steak, when I heard Mello gasp next to me.
"Matt."
"What." He hit me on the shoulder a bunch of time until I looked up. New girl had walked over to a table that currently had a single resident. She proceeded to ask that single resident if she could sit at that table. He, surprised, said something that sounded like:
"Wha...uh..Yeah, um, sure."
It wouldn't have been such a big deal... IF IT WASN'T NEAR! New girl had just sat at Near's table. Nobody sat at Near's table. He was one of the only ones in the history of Wammy's to have his own table. And yet she sat across from him, and proceeded to eat her salad, while the albino watched her with wide, surprised, eyes.
The ten year old albino could have solved almost any case, but was dumbfounded at the event of someone wanting to sit with him. Half of me found it hilarious, and the other half was extremely surprised. At this point, practically the entire dining hall was watching them. Who was this girl!

There. Another chapter completed. Hm. Perhaps I'll put another chapter up tonight or tomorrow morning so that I'm all caught up with things. We'll see.
