(01) Recruitment

13:58, 17 October 2023

Deadpool was finishing off a job taking out some gang members in order to get paid a very handsome sum of two million dollars.

The person who gave him the job said they were the biggest threat to their drug business so he would pay well for them to be killed. He was also requested to bring a package that they have that has information on where his other storages for the drugs would be located.

He was currently using a straw to drink the blood from one of the gang members, his mask slightly pulled up to show the skin on the bottom of his face and up to his nose.

"This isn't as good as cold blood but sometimes you've gotta mix things up a bit." Marcus said to himself whilst shaking his head with a disappointed sigh.

The mercenary looked around at all the dead gang members before something fell to the floor catching his attention. He turned to the sight of the object that he needed.

"Huh, I guess I found the mystery package. I'm sure Mr.lightwood will be very happy with this." He said clapping with a smirk.

Marcus put his mask down and threw his empty cup at the wall and turned to leave but accidentally stepped on a dead guys head, "Ughh! You're ruining my awesome walkout moment,! YOU STUPID IDIOT!." He shouted whilst continuing to kick his head until his body had moved.

"There you go." He said with a cheerful smile and made his way out the warehouse whilst pouring gasoline until he was far enough and lit the match with a smirk, throwing it into the liquid without turning and carried on walking.

*BOOM!*

"This would make a pretty fucking awesome cinematic shot." Marcus said jumping in the air and clicking his heels together as the fire burned the building.

"More updates will be shown when we receive more information on the matter."  The news anchor said before the news channel was cut for a commercial break.

"Huh, reminds me of 16 year old me when I had just escaped That pisshole prison. Pathetic parents fault." Marcus said quietly to himself as he watched the tv in the diner after his mission with other more concerned customers waiting for someone to come take his order.

"What can I get for you?" The pimply teenage waiter asked him with a smile ready to scrabble down his order into the small little notebook.

"Two orders of some delicious chimichangas and a large strawberry milkshake, Ahh and make them extra chimichangafied!" Marcus emphasised the last part very dramatically with his hands.

Even though food does nothing for his hunger, he still likes the taste of chimichangas but he does prefer blood over anything else as that's the only thing that has him satisfied.

The waiter looks at him with confusion shown across his features, "chimichangafied?" He asked.

Marcus looked at him equally confused, "what?? It's a real word......... but really, put some love into those beautiful Chimichangas otherwise you don't get the right payoff." He clarified the young waiter with a now serious expression.

"Okeyyyy.......... I'll make sure to let the chef know how much love you want to go into them." The unconvinced waiter said as he quickly wrote down the order whilst giving him a questioning look walking away.

"Ahhh, they're most definitely spitting in my food....... Is it weird that I'm ok with that?" Marcus asked himself before shrugging his shoulders.

He pulled out his A4 notepad which was full of his personal things such as the money he has earned from his previous jobs before or other possible job opportunities.

Marcus was clearly very engrossed into his notes because he soon glanced up to see a black man with black hair who was probably in his mid 40s dressed in a expensive suit with an eyepatch covering his eye sitting across from him.

"As sexy and beautiful as I am, I'm just not interested hunny." Marcus said with blunt sarcasm without looking up from his notepad.

"Damn, you haven't aged a day in all the years since the last time I saw you." The man said with a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

That statement caught Marcus's attention as he placed down his notepad next to him, giving the mysterious man a glare.

"If you're Hydra or here to kill me, I just want you to know... that isn't going to end very well for you" He whispered in a deadly tone.

The man just laughed at the threat, "You really don't recognise me. It was only a few years ago when we last met." He added.

"Ughhh, are we really gonna drag this out about who the fuck you are because this is like so many movie clichés at the moment." Marcus added rolling his eyes, getting annoyed by the man.

"Sorry my name is Nick Fury." The man introduced himself extending his hand, "And you are Marcus Rapp otherwise known as zero"

"How the fuck do you know that?" Marcus asked getting angry, refusing to shake his hand.

"I've had my eye on you for a long time time now. Ex-Hydra assassin, escaped from their clutches when you were 16 after faking your death." Nick said as mercenary looked at him strangely.

"Kinda stalker-ish, not gonna lie." Marcus said weirded out as the waiter brought over his strawberry milkshake.

He took a sip of his milkshake as Nick continued,"I want to learn more about the man behind deadpool and the unknown son of the Tony Stark."

Marcus started chocking on him milkshake doing a small spit take as the other customers started looking at him strangely as him completely blocking them out instead focusing on Nick.

"Dont't EVER call me that pricks son again. You got that." Marcus said with a murderous tone.

"How come you don't like Tony Stark?" Nick questioned looking at the 22 year old in a 16 year olds body.

Marcus looked him dead in the eye, "Because that bastard is one of the reasons I grew up in Hydra in the first place." He said seriously, "Anywayyyy, autographs cost 30 bucks however I would accept you paying for my meal." He said in an upbeat tone and a wide smile.

Nick decided to leave Tony Stark to the 'do not discuss pile' .

Nick started to chuckle as he wiped the greasy table with a napkin, "You're funny, I see why they call you a Merc with a mouth now."

"I see how my reputation precedes me........ but I'm interested to know, about how you know me?." Marcus adds taking a sip of his milkshake finally getting to the question that's been bugging him.

"Well 5 years ago when I had both my eyes, you saved me from getting shot by a sniper that Hydra had set up, I asked if you wanted to get some food, so I could ask you who you where and you told me you were deadpool and I've been keeping tabs ever since." Nick explained causing the memory to come back into the Mercenary's head.

Marcus's eyes widen in realisation and leaned over the table and patted his hand on Nicks shoulder surprising him, "Holy shit dude, who would've thought!" He said with a grin.

"Yeah it's good to see you too kid.... or should I say man?" Nick said with a confused smile.

"Oh yeah, I'm kinda immortal....... Anywayyys how the fuck have you been man?" Marcus excitedly asked the man he hasn't seen in years.

His food came by within ten minutes and Marcus got a little bag of blood out of his pocket and poured it over his chimichangas as if it was sauce, which got a strange look from the man in front of him.

"So, who's got Nick Fury on their payroll then?" Marcus questioned with an eyebrow raised.

"I'm working for the organisation called S.H.I.E.L.D, you heard of them?" He replied

Marcus hummed, "strategic homeland intervention, enforcement and logistics division, yeah a government agency." He answer with a hint of venom in his voice.

"Not a big fan of the government?" Nick asked as he picked up on his tone.

"Well the government is a little bit like hydra who forced me to kill and mind controlled me, so I trust the government as much as I trust myself to not mind control someone for alcohol." Marcus answered with an eye roll.

"Yeah must suck looking 16" Nick said with a eye roll of his own.

"Depends on your perspective." Marcus answered shaking his head a little whilst looking down, "So what's the reason you came to see me?"

"Recruitment." Nick replied sounding monotone, looking very serious.

Marcus rolled his eyes, "Ahhh, a one word answer that tells me fuck all, you could be recruiting entertainment for a birthday for pedophiles." He said sarcastically.

"So what's the recruitment, and it better not be S.H.I.E.L.D because I'm not an idiot that works for the government." Marcus angrily said.

Nick shook his head, "No it's not for S.H.I.E.L.D , it's for something bigger than that. There are threats to this planet that we couldn't even dream of." He said.

Marcus chuckled, "Yeah no kidding, I'm literally a 22 year old in a 16 year olds body that drinks blood and has superpowers."

Nick continued, "There is an idea. The idea is to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could be something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to fight the battles we never could." He finished his speech.

"Well you've come to the right guy, I mean who is more remarkable than me" The mercenary pointed at himself with a cocky smirk on his face.

Nick couldn't really argue with that but continued, "I want to put together a team of earths good guys."

Marcus laughs heartedly, "what...... like a team of heroes?" Before taking a drink of his milkshake.

Nick clicks his fingers and pointed at him, "exactly!"

"You've kept up with what I do over the years, I'm not exactly the poster boy for heroism, murder maybe but heroism...... no." Marcus nonchalantly replied.

Nick tries to reassure the mercenary, "I know you, your heart's in the right place always has been, always will be........... besides sometimes we don't need a hero who will fight for us but maybe a monster who will fight back against the darkness of the world."

Marcus slams his milkshake down onto the table getting looks from the very few customers that was left.

The last part of Nicks speech he could relate to, "Now that's something I can get behind because I'm not sighing up for superhero camp."

"Excellent!" The Nick says with relief as he clapped his hands together gloriously.

Marcus liked his fingers clean before he asked the waiter for the bill, a minute later someone came with the bill of $28.69 which he paid in cash.

Nick and Marcus both walked out of the diner before a beeping sound came from Nicks pocket, he quickly listened to the message.

Marcus looked at him, "S.H.I.E.L.D business?" He asked.

"Yep." The director of S.H.I.E.L.D confirmed as he put the pager back into his coat pocket.

"Anything you can share with good O'l Deadpool?" He asked with a puppy dog expression.

"Classified." Nick said coldly as Marcus dipped his knees and clicked his fingers in defeat with slight disappointment in his features.

"You're a real stick in the mud, you know that one eyed Willie?" Marcus said to the man who looked unfazed at him.

"Funny." Nick said with the same blunt tone.

Marcus then asked intrigued, "So what's this team called then?"

Fury pulled out a moderately thick A4 file from his jacket and handed the file over to him. What stood out Marcus was the big three words on the front.

THE AVENGERS INITIATIVE

Marcus took the file that fury had put together and before he even read it, he looked back at Fury

"I'm in"

Those two words that would make his life a living hell

Or would it?
