Epilogue
04:29, 27 June 2013“Are you ready for class?” I was just getting out of bed when my new roommate, Dana, came out of the bathroom. I am now a student at UCLA, which is miles and miles away from home. I got an apartment with Tori. Dana posted that she needed two other roommates and we jumped on the opportunity. We didn’t want to live in the dorms. Dana admitted she was nervous to live with us since Tori and I are so close but we all got along so well. She’s also on the soccer team that Tori and I were lucky enough to earn a spot on.
Today was the first day of classes. I was actually excited, which I never am for school. But now I can learn about things that interest me. I’m going to school for physical therapy and athletic training.
“No” I whined. I threw on a pair of shorts and a top. The weather was beautiful in California. Dana started looking around my room. I finally had it all set up and decorated.
“Who’s this?” She picked up my prom picture. You might be wondering what happened with me and Liam after Niall ended things with me. I cried for weeks and weeks over Niall. He wouldn’t look at me for the rest of the days he taught at the high school. He didn’t answer my calls or any of my texts. My heart broke into a million pieces. Liam knew something was up. I didn’t tell him who broke my heart. I just told him it was this kid from another school. Liam was there for me. He helped me get through it. We both felt like we owed it to each other to give us a shot. For a while it worked. We would go on dates and hang out together. He was a decent guy and we had a lot of fun together. After graduation we decided we were better off being friends than an actual couple.
As for Niall, I saw him once over the summer. At first he acted like he didn’t know me until he realized that I was graduated from high school. He was allowed to talk to me but he didn’t. He just smiled and waved. It crushed me. I wasn’t worth it to him before to continue with what we had and now he didn’t even want to talk to me.
“Just a friend from high school.”
“He’s hot. Your boyfriend?”
“Ex.” He eyes grew wide and I noticed her checking Liam out in the picture. “He goes here too. If you want I can set you two up.” Dana is gorgeous. She’s tall with long brown hair and piercing green eyes. She is Liam’s type and I knew they would love each other.
“Really?” she said excited and then cleared her throat when she noticed she was acting like she was thirteen. I laughed and took the picture from her. “And what about this guy?” She pointed to a picture of Louis and I.
“Another ex” I laughed.
“Never bring a guy home, they’ll run when they see this.”
“We’re friends. I don’t have feelings for either of them.” Truth is I still had feelings for Niall. I knew they would never go away. Right before I left for college I tried calling him. I was sent right to his voicemail. I promised myself that was my last shot at trying to get in contact with him and it was. I was done.
I grabbed my bag and we started to walk to class. “So I hear our intro to anatomy teacher is gorgeous” Dana said. Why?! Why can’t teachers just be old men who aren’t attractive? Honestly I would do much better in school if they were ugly.
We stopped to get breakfast at Starbucks on campus. God I loved this school. Boys were in tank tops, shorts, snapbacks. They were tan and toned. I love California!
We ran into Liam and Louis in Starbucks. I gave them both a hug and introduced them to Dana. As I suspected Liam was definitely into her. Louis and Nikki broke up right after Valentine’s Day. There relationship was on the rocks since Thanksgiving. After they broke up Louis and I actually became friends again. I loved that Louis, Liam and I could go back to the friendship we once had.
I grabbed a cup of coffee to go as we left to go to class. We said goodbye to the boys and walked into our building. We found a spot to sit and waited for class to begin. The professor wasn’t there yet. I took out my notebook and realized I didn’t have a pen or anything. I asked Dana for one but all she had was an unsharpened pencil. The professor walked in but I couldn’t see his face. Dana said he was good looking but he was blocked by a group of students.
I walked down the steps of the lecture hall to sharpen the pencil, still sipping on my coffee.
“Good morning class, let’s get started” the male professor said. A familiar voice. It couldn’t be.
“I’m Professor Horan.” I spun around quickly, bumping into a hard body spilling my coffee all over him. It was Niall. Niall was my professor. This must be a fucking joke.
