Saved (The End)
08:47, 24 June 2014"Get up." The sentry growled, kicking the metal bars.
The vibrating metal shook through Alec's jaw and woke him from his sleep. Alec stood up
slowly to face the guard. He chased the sleep from his body, shaking his stiff limbs and stretching muscles, sore from weeks on the concrete floor. He looked to the guard's eyes, silently questioning the reason for the early wake up. Alec was very good at that, communicating through his eyes and silence.
"You are wanted in the infirmary." The sentry grunted, rummaging around in his pockets to retrieve handcuffs and a key ring. Alec's face ran through a series of emotions while the guard searched for the right wing. Joy, despair, doubt, panic. There could only be one reason for Alec's presence to be needed in the infirmary.
Ky had woken by now, and was on his feet. He nudged Alec, looking for some sign that Alec was allright. Alec nodded his head, avoiding eye contact. He couldn't believe that mere weeks ago, he thought that maybe Ky was more than Magnus. Granted, he still trusted and liked the guy. He probably would be forever in debt to him, but then again, there were many people Alec could never repay. But put simply, Ky would never be Magnus.
Alec walked in a daze, while the sentry lead him through the same winding hallways to the same white medical rooms that he had been to in his stay with the Clave. His body went on autopilot, managing to coordinate movements when his mind was entirely preoccupied. Worries and doubts and panic crushing any other sensible thought Alec had.
They came to a stop in front of a patient room, appropriately titled Room 007. The automatic door slid open, with a dramatic woosh. In the room, there were 2 occupants.
A still figure clothed in a green dress under dark robes, sat stiffly in a chair. Her long, brown hair swayed softly as her head tilted toward the entrance. Not looking or facing Alec, just listening. Her silhouette was young, maybe 19, though a sober air followed the girl, as if she knew far, far more than her looks betrayed.
A single hospital bed took up space in the center of the room. Plenty of medical equipment, with monitors and hooks lined the walls, but nothing was attached to the bed's occupant. Alec was dimly aware of the doors closing behind him, leaving him, the girl, and the bed in the room. He hesitantly took a step forward, almost tripping over himself in the process. Under normal circumstances, he would have blushed, but the only one to appreciate his blush, wasn't looking. More steps, until his legs had carried him to the bed.
Alec had heard people talk about how seeing someone dying or dead, they didn't recognize them. Among shadow hunters, it was a common topic. The living didn't connect the body to the spirit of the person they loved. Alec decided in that moment, that it was complete bullshit. It was not a body, it was undeniably Magnus. The little details may have been wrong. His Magnus didn't have dark circles under his eyes, or a pale chalky complexion. His Magnus didn't have bruises on his torso or burnt, blistered skin on his forearm. And his Magnus definitely did not have dull, flat, boring hair. While the details were wrong, everything else called Alec to him. The long sender fingers, curled gently inwards. The high arched cheekbones hinting of exotic asian heritage. The long limber limbs, not bulky but quick and lithe. It was these features that identified the body in the bed as his Magnus, and it was this realization that brought Alec to pieces.
He sank to his knees, coming eye level with the hospital bed. He then dropped to the floor, his head dropped between his knees, and his hands clasped together in what might have been mistaken for prayer but was actually just Alec's unconscious need to have his hand held. Not a sound was made. He just shook and shook, and wept silent tears. His magic began to react to his sorrow and desperation. It began to spark and burn, deep in Alec's gut. It hurt, and Alec gladly accepted the pain. Anything to keep him from the oblivion that comes with death. A His mind realized the terrible irony of his obsession with Magnus's immortality, only to live longer than him.
In his grief he had forgotten the girl in green. She had crossed the room, and put a hand on his shoulders. His magic raced through him into her. She stiffened but stayed there, taking the full force of Alec's physical despair and pain. "Oh Alec," she breathed. Her voice was melodic, soft and sweet, a hint of an english accent mixed with something of a different age entirely. "He isn't dead. Go to him, Alexander. He lives for you."
Alec lifts his head and met her sincere eyes. Hope like a candle, flickered in the depths of his eyes. She nodded again, before gently pulling him to his feet, and guiding his hand to Magnus's wrist. The pulse of blood pounded against Alec's fingers and he began to sob again. Deep, ragged breaths that tore from his lungs, coupled with a relieved smile and a steady dripping of salt water from his feline blue eyes.
After a few minutes, Alec managed to compose himself, and steady his breathing. He took Magnus's hand and intertwined their fingers, just like it was always supposed to be. It was this moment, that Alec realized he could not live with out him. He didn't want the world or the recognition or the acceptance or the easier love. He wanted Magnus, his warlock. To be cliche, his sunshine on a rainy day, his shoulder to cry on, his glitter on a grey canvas.
"My name is Tessa Gray." She offered. "And I know who you are, Alexander Lightwood.
Magnus told me plenty about you."
Alec simply nodded. At this point, nothing could surprise him.
"The clave contacted me as a warlock at the Spiral Labyrinth. They requested my services in healing Magnus Bane. When I found out the source of his injury, I was furious." Tessa's angelic face was contorted, and she spat out her words. "I told the Clave that their actions would not go unpunished. Magnus is an old friend and is respected and liked for the most part in the down worlder community."
"How is he?" Alec interrupted.
"Stable. He needs time to heal, but is out of danger. I don't know the extent of the damage to his magic abilities though. That, only time will tell. He is resting now, and all the rest he can get, the better for his body to heal." Tessa reported with a smile.
"Thank you." Alec replied, to yet another person he was forever in debt to. He silently thanked Magnus for not being a cliche drama queen and being in a coma until woken by true love's kiss.
"Good luck to you, Alexander Lightwood. Keep your love close, and cherish it till the end. I have experience in regret and it is not something you want to carry with you." Tessa Gray spoke softly, her young teenage face in stark contrast with her depthless, omniscient eyes.
Loud shouting carried through the walls, making both Alec and Tessa turn.
"I must take my leave now. Though I do believe we will be seeing each other again soon."
Tessa winked and whisked out of the room.
Just as the door slid shut behind her, a low groan came from Magnus. His fingers curled in and out, and he rolled over. Alec rushed back to the side of the bed and gently rolled Magnus on his back, and inclined the bed so he was in a sitting position.
"Magnus?" Alec spoke softly. "Magnus, it's Alec."
Magnus's eyes slowly peeled open. Right when he woke up is when they looked the most like a leopard. Green and gold, they narrowed and widened until focusing on Alec's concerned face.
"Don't look so worried. It was just a little thing." Magnus joked, trying to set Alec at ease.
"By the Angel," Alec swore in relief. "I thought I lost you. Promise me to never, ever get hurt again." Alec ducked his head, trying to make light of the situation, but his voice choked.
"Hey, hey." Magnus's voice crackled, days out of practice. "Look at me." He tilted Alec's chin up and found tears threatening to break through Alec's practiced act of nonchalance. Magnus looked shocked, at Alec's weakness. He stroked Alec's damp cheek soothingly with his thumb and smiled at him. "We're okay. I've got you, okay?" Magnus's face was young and smooth, imploring Alec to smile, to feel safe.
"I love you." "I love you too."
"Come up here." Magnus ordered, patting the bed next to him. Alec blushed, but pulled himself up next to the warlock. He rested his head on Magnus's shoulder and closed his eyes. He breathed in Magnus's sandalwood scent and Magnus wrapped his arms around the younger boy's smaller frame. 'Keep your love close,' Alec thought. 'I don't want to ever be farther apart than this.' Alec fell asleep quickly, his head still resting on Magnus's shoulder. Magnus fell asleep soon after, a tangle of limbs on the hospital bed.
A little over an hour later, the doors wooshed open again, waking Magnus but not Alec. Tessa Gray walked in, wiggling her fingers in greeting. Magnus smiled at seeing his old friend, but he was confused.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the Spiral Labyrinth?" Magnus asked.
"That's the thanks I get for saving you? Besides, I just broke you out of jail." Tessa teased, fingering a pearl bracelet on her left wrist.
"What?" Magnus asked, incredulous.
"Yeah, after relaying the information of your time here, the downworlder community was in an uproar, stating that your treatment was a violation of the Codes. Also an Aline girl, shadow hunter, led a strike against the Clave. She is a strong willed girl, I'll give her that. The Clave had no choice but to free you. They couldn't stand against the down worlders and their own people. You two weren't worth the trouble." Tess said with a smile. "They are also releasing the other prisoner, Ky Blackwood, if that means anything to you. So get out of here and head home. I think there's somebody missing you two. Or him at least." Tessa teased, gesturing to Alec.
Magnus smiled gratefully. "Thank you Tessa."
"You really do love him don't you?" Tessa asked softly, almost wistfully.
Magnus's arms around Alec tightened and drew the sleeping boy closer to him. "Yes. I think more than I have ever loved before." His voice grew husky and he cleared his throat before looking back to Tessa.
"Good, I'm happy for you. Now go on get out before the Clave changes their mind." Tessa smiled again. "Good bye Magnus Bane. I'll see you again, eventually." Their little inside joke about their shared eternity together. Tessa Gray walked out of the room, her dress train floating behind her.
Magnus grinned at her retreating back. "We're free." He murmured to himself. He shook Alec a little and the raven haired shadowhunter-that-wasn't with the startling blue eyes woke and peered up at him. "Let's go home." Magnus said. "We're free, so lets go home."
Alec's answering smile was so broad it made Magnus's heart swell.
