Rescue
05:02, 10 April 2014The Lightwood family sat in the library, silent. Then Magnus opened his mouth, and everyone erupted.
"When like now-"
"You said 2 days it's been 2-"
"How are you planning-"
"Just gonna break in-"
"Are you insane-"
Magnus waited until everyone had quieted down and said "So the plan is-"
He was cut short by the phone ringing. He swept towards the desk and read that the phone's caller ID was private. He picked it up gingerly.
"May I ask who is speaking?" A deep, smooth male voice questioned through the phone.
"May I ask the same thing?" Magnus retorted.
"My name is Ky Blackwood and I can't tell you any more until I know who you are."
"Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn."
"So your Magnus. It's about Alec."
Magnus's hackles rose. How did this stranger know him? 'And,' he thought, 'This stranger doesn't get to call Alexander Alec.'
"Is he okay?" Magnus asked tensely.
"Define okay. He's alive but we need to get him out soon before the Clave begins to take more drastic measures. If you portal outside the gates, I can sneak you, but after that you are pretty much on your own, I can try to run interference and make sure you don't run into anyone you can't handle. But Alec needs to get out." Ky said urgently.
Magnus hated this 'Ky' more and more as he went on. "And why should I trust you?"
"Because I'm the best chance you have at Alec. And I don't want to see him hurt more or dead." Ky added the last part quickly.
Magnus didn't trust him at all, but he was right, he was the best chance they had. "I'm bringing Jace, Alec's brother. Portal will open at 9 pm. Don't be late." He hung up the phone with a bang.
"Alright change of plans. Jace, you are with me. We are leaving at 9. Be ready."
Alec sat in his cell block, bored out of his mind. He tried not to move because if he moved then he would probably open up a new wound. He wasn't even sure what hurt and what didn't anymore. The lighting was bad so he couldn't see very clearly. He hadn't had any solid food for days, only water and broth, and the occasional apple from Ky, so he was weak from hunger.
He was the only person on this level and quite frankly wished he was back with the terrible scientist woman or Ky because at least then he had something to focus on besides the dull ache of pain spreading through his entire body or the hunger or the homesickness or the absolute blankness of his existence.
"God now I'm just feeling sorry for myself." He mumbled to the wall.
He ran his scabbed hands through his greasy hair. "Oh yeah and I smell. Would it kill them to let me shower? I mean I'm a shadow hunter, I've grown up in this place. And now I'm having conversations with the wall. Great."
He missed his family terribly. Magnus and Jace and Isabelle and even Clary. 'How are they getting on?' he thought. 'God this place is a hell hole. It's just different types of pain mixed together.'
He closed his eyes and did the one thing that kept him sane. He thought about his family.
Isabelle, with her bad ass exterior, that masked a loving, caring sister. People who knew her understood that there are few things that could stop Isabelle Lightwood.
He held his hand over his parabati rune and concentrated. He could feel heat emanating out and could almost feel Jace right next to him. He could feel his strength, his arrogance, his stubbornness, his loyalty. He smiled thinking of his brother.
His heart skipped a beat as he thought about him. His gold cat eyes that stare right into his soul. His spiked hair and his distinct sparkle. The protective way he holds him, declaring to the world that Alec is his and no one else's. Alec remembered how when no one else was there, Magnus was. Holding him and keeping him safe. Alec knew that his warlock would come for him. But would he get here in time?
"Stop it." He chided himself softly. "Everything will be okay. Everything will work out."
If nothing else good came out of this, then at least he understood more about what he was. The scientist woman was a witch but at least she updated him on what they had found out.
So far they didn't know much but they knew more that everyone else. He was half shadow hunter half warlock.
"A shadow warlock maybe, that sounds bad ass," Alec commented to the wall.
He had kept all of his shadow hunter traits, including the ability of runes which should be impossible for a warlock.
His new traits they have found so far are increased awareness if his own body, like gracefulness and strength have been noted.
His natural ability to create magic happens when struck by strong emotion in which case magic energy will begin to generate. He figured that out after taking out 3 guards with his newly found powers.
After a test where they presented him with different words in different languages they found he instinctively knows the language warlocks use to cast spells which is called Chthonian.
They keep taking blood but Alec didn't know why, his captors don't feel like mentioning anything regarding that.
What he really wanted to know was his life span. Does this make him immortal? Slow aging? He couldn't even think about it.
Sighing, Alec returned his focus to the dark hallway, waiting for something. Anything.
Just as he gave up hope that something was coming, there was a loud screech and a bang, followed by a muffled scream. He jerked his body into motion, trying to stand up, grimacing in pain. He felt something tear in his leg and cried out as he fell to the ground, hitting his head hard on the wall as he fell. He tried to hold on but soon succumbed to the darkness calling to him.
Magnus and Jace, pushed through the rotting wood of the prison door and hit metal. After Ky had snuck them in, it had been a piece of cake. Now they only had to worry about getting out with Alec.
Jace took a step back, grinned devilishly and said "Watch out."
He swung his sword in a figure 8, deftly cutting the bars in two. He then kicked his way through the remaining metal with a screech and a resounding metal-on-metal bang, from the door hitting the wall.
The sentry standing guard didn't even stand a chance. Left chained to the door with a muffling bag over his head, Magnus and Jace continued on after stealing his ring of keys.
The dimly lit corridor provided little reassurance as Magnus and Jace hurried, checking each cell for Alec. Moving quickly, Jace almost didn't see him lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Soundlessly, Jace threw himself down, reaching through the bars to touch Alec. Magnus whirled around and uttered a wordless cry to Alec. He fumbled with the keys until he found the right one to unlock Alec's cell.
As the door swung open, both Magnus and Jace scrambled in. Jace took Alec's head in his lap and ripped a piece of gauze out of his pocket to staunch his bleeding head wound.
Magnus ran his hands gently over Alec's body, analyzing his injuries and the severity of said injuries. He breathed a sigh of relief, when he realized Alec wasn't dying.
"Almost his entire body is covered in old wounds, cuts, bruises, whip lashes, broken ribs, I'm pretty sure his shoulder was dislocated, and his head is bleeding from a laceration, but head wounds bleed that's nothing to worry about. He's malnourished and weak from hunger. We won't know more until I wake him up." Magnus almost seemed to be talking to himself.
"Then wake him up," Jace demanded impatiently.
"I'm working on it," Magnus retorted. A magenta spark flickered into life in his palm and he carefully placed his hand on Alec's forehead and mumbled a few words.
Groggily Alec opened his eyes and blinked, at first not comprehending where he was. Then he saw Jace holding his head and he smiled, and he saw Magnus's gold cat eyes staring at him, begging him to say something, and his heart soared.
"I knew you would come for me," he said. "I waited."
Both Magnus and Jace smiled, looking on at the boy they both loved.
Then Magnus broke the moment and asked Alec "What hurts?"
Alec shook his head. "Umm everything?" He grimaced in pain.
"Here try this. Visualize something broken being fixed. Anything." Magnus said.
Alec obediently shut his eyes and concentrated. After a couple seconds, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"I feel better. How did you do that?" Alec asked Magnus.
"It's a warlock self heal. You are pretty strong to have that take effect so fast." Magnus answered.
"Okay come on we should go." Jace said glancing around nervously.
Alec tried to sit up but then winced. Without a word, Jace picked him up, bride style, one arm under his knees and one under his back. Alec smiled quietly at how Jace knew exactly when to help and when not to. They were brothers, through and through.
Magnus stepped out first into the dark hallway, motioning for Jace to follow him. The trio had made their way about 30 feet before lights blinked on and shadow hunters poured in from each side surrounding them in seconds. Magnus and Jace had their backs against the wall. Jace clutched Alec closer and Magnus took a protective stance in front of them. The scientist woman and the commander that had beat Alec, pushed their way to the front of the group.
"Well, well, well what do we have here?" The man asked.
"Bring the boy to the front," the woman commanded.
Magnus, Alec, and Jace exchanged confused looks only to see Ky Blackwood pushed to the front. He looked bad, with bruises and cuts all over his body. His skin was different colors of black and blue stained with patches of red blood. Alec sucked in a breath and whimpered softly at seeing Ky beaten. Magnus flicked his eyes back towards Alec and even in that moment he wondered what he was missing. Ky mouthed the word 'sorry' across the room.
"What happens now?"
