39 - Pain
07:13, 5 June 2025Today was another well shit day. One word- Pain.
Fuyuka had worked on training for a few days, and was in the middle of a well deserved (not really) Bleach break when the attack from Pain began.
Fuyuka had been assigned to civilian evacuation duty, which was kind of boring, but even Fuyuka knew there were times when getting a good fight wasn't the most important thing.
After herding a bunch of screaming villagers around for a while, the blue haired chunin found her fight in the form of a stupidly tall ox.
Fuyuka, as well as a few nameless background characters nobody cares about turned to the ox while the civilians continued screaming and running. The blue haired girl summoned an Octagonal Stellar Snare before leaping out of the way of the charging ox.
'Water,' she noted, her gaze flickering to some exploding water pipes nearby. 'Awesome.'
Standing next to the spurting water pipe, she gathered her chakra to mold the water into four water cats (because she still couldn't make anything last too long except for cats) who picked up the Stellar Snare and lunged through the air.
The ox howled (do oxes howl?) as the cats shoved the Snare onto its face, before poofing back into harmless puddles of water.
With a moment to spare, Fuyuka quickly formed the hand signs for Wild Water Wave, a move that, with her training, had a 50/50 chance of working. Thankfully, the blast of water burst forth as usual, enough for Fuyuka to leap up (defying all physics with the power of anime), slamming a final Decagonal Snare onto the ox.
It was enough damage to take it down, allowing the girl to return to boring civilian herding duty.
She saw others a few times in the chaos, fighting their own fights. Yozora had found his new favorite move in flying out of range on Aquila and chucking literal giant balance scales down on enemies, which worked disturbingly well.
But the fight wasn't going well.
"Miss, we're evacuating!"
Miyabi Hoshino looked up in relief at the medic standing at the doorway of the hospital room. "Seishi-san, help me bring Shigetsu too."
Seishi was another medic nin, with dark hair in a neat ponytail. The medic frowned. "I thought you were cutting off his healing."
"I'm slowing it down," Miyabi corrected. "To cut it off altogether would bring immense pain for around two weeks, so instead I'm minimizing discomfort. I am still a medic, so until I receive orders, my patients are still my duty."
The other medic nin paused, but when further sounds of battle rang from outside the hospital, she gave in, dragging a stretcher out from nearby and transporting the unconscious blond over. "We have to hurry and get out of here."
"Golden Twine!"
Kogane choked one of Pain's giant bird summons with her golden ropes, before dispelling them and gesturing to the rest of Shadow Star. "Quick, we need to leave! Where's mom?"
"No time, she's leaving with the other medic nin," Katsume replied, breaking a falling rock in half with a quick earth jutsu.
"Isn't Tsunade-sama trying to bring that Naruto kid back?" Yamiki asked, turning to face his father. Hokuro, at the head of the group, paused. "I think so, but we still need to get out, and..."
"...and hope he can turn the tide."
Fuyuka was already having her second oh shit moment today, which was being caught under a pile of rubble. She had no clue how this worked, a pile of rubble just so happened to topple over her, enclosing her in a small space.
She could wait until somebody broke the rubble for her, but who knows how long that'll take. Heck, she didn't even know if everyone else was still alive.
The blue haired chunin observed the size of the enclosed space- about 9 meters in radius and 5 meters tall. She could consider blasting it with water jutsu, but Fuyuka didn't exactly have Naruto-level chakra reserves to summon enough water out of thin air to break rocks that are who knows how heavy.
Unless...
The average explosive tag has an explosion radius of 8.7 meters. Don't ask why Fuyuka knows this kind of thing. The written chunin exam was motivational.
She couldn't sense any other chakra nearby, so nobody was coming to help until the whole thing was over.
'Fuck it, I'm not waiting around.'
"All the civilians over here are out!" Mitsuka shouted. "Terasu's staying with them, hurry up!"
Nearby, Naku finished off one of the giant summons, dispelling his Stormwind Armament. "We need to get out of here too."
"Yeah, let's go!"
With a loud clang, another Pain summon fell prey to being hit on the head by a giant balance scale constellation. Yozora kept as high up in the air as possible via Aquila without the oxygen being too thin, which unfortunately meant he still had to dodge a few attacks from the giant crab summon.
He summoned another Libra, which he dropped down on the crab. This wasn't going too well, since the crab was too armored to be defeated by blunt force, and despite Yozora being able to summon plenty of constellations without too much chakra consumption, he was still running low.
'How much longer?'
"Ow."
While Fuyuka managed to get out without too much damage, she also had to run out of the way of a collapsing building, which ended with her getting showered with pieces of rubble. Thankfully, she didn't have many severe injuries.
She was glad to see Naruto had returned, with several bonus frogs ("Toads, they're toads, not frogs!") and had taken down the Pains. She didn't really hear much apart from Naruto going to try and talk no jutsu the real body of Pain, something the blue haired girl had her doubts about.
However, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that Naruto had succeeded, and somehow Pain had decided to use his Rinnegan to revive everyone who died in the attack, at the price of himself dying in the aftermath.
"Fuyuka, Naruto's over there!" Sakura called, gesturing to a crowd amassing around the blond staggering into the village carried by Kakashi. The blue haired girl followed her teammate over, where she was briefed on what happened.
"Naruto, you don't just casually defeat the leader of the Akatsuki," she marvelled. "That was awesome."
"Yeah, thanks." Naruto gave a feeble thumbs up in response. While the attack was a huge blow to the village, there was at least one development Fuyuka was glad about.
Naruto was a hero.
