Chapter 1- LILY POV

I rolled my eyes at James. There wasn't a need for distractions. James could get bad grades, that was his choice. It wasn't my fault I didn't want to go out with him. He was a jerk.

I heard laughter from the other side of the commons room. Sirius, Remus, and Peter were laughing their heads off at James, and it was really obnoxious.

I was studying for a big Diviniation test, and the others should have been studying too. But no, they were wasting their time. I hoped that they would learn someday that you don't get anything out of life without trying. With them, there was no hope.

James was casting spells on his homework, making it fold itself and tear, only to then be completely new a second later. I didn't get how it was so funny.

I couldn't focus with the laughter. I sigh and move my stuff upstairs, in the dorm I share with my best friends.

My bed was the closest to the door. I don't know if that's a good thing, I am a light sleeper. So if someone were to leave the dorm in the middle of the night, I would be awake. But, in the rare event of an attack, I would be able to get out of the door the quickest.

I attempted to spread everything out on my bed, but it was hard to not poke holes in the paper as I wrote. I finally gave up after having a book under the parchment still ended in punctures. I pulled out my wand and casted a simple spell to mend the holes.

I leaned back on the bed until my head hit the pillow. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep.

When I woke, I winced as I rolled my neck, trying to get it unstiff. I didn't sleep the greatest last night. I dunno why.

I got ready for the day with haste. I accidentally knocked over the lamp on my bedside table. I got out my wand and froze it as it was inches from the ground. Thank you, quick reflexes.

As I hurried to my first class, Charms, one I shared with James, I saw a lonely figure walking towards the dungeons. He had greasy hair and a hooked nose.

"Hey, Sev." I say, catching up with him. The way he walked was the way I also went, but he would have to leave halfway.

He looked at me. "Oh, hi Lily."

We walked in silence for a while.

"I didn't know you had Potions first."

He shrugs. "Apparently they had to change my schedule."

"Oh."

"Well, this is where I have to go. See ya later..."

I make it to my Charms class just as the bell rings. I cringe as Professor Flitwick walks to me.

"Miss Evans," He says, "You are usually a lot earlier. Is something the matter?"

I shake my head. "I ran into an old friend."

"Ah. Now please go to your seat."

I obey, not wanting to make Professor Flitwick even more mad.

Charms seems to take an impossibly long time to end. I never thought of Professor Flitwick as a boring teacher, and Charms was one of my favorite subjects, but it took an eternity.

It was a while before I realised it was because I was worried about Severus. He seemed so sad. I wonder if James and his gang got to him again? If they did, I swear they will regret it.

The rest of my classes took forever, too. I didn't see Sev at all. They must have really changed up his schedule. I did see James, however. He was being as obnoxious as always.

I tried to study in the commons room again. It worked better this time. James was with his friends, all the way across the room. I was finally able to concentrate. As much as I loved the silence, it bugged me a bit that they were being so quiet. Were they planning something? I saw James look at me occasionally, and the others look at my friends. Hmmm....

Luckily, my worrying about James made the classes go faster. Maybe it was because I didn't really like him. Maybe it was because he was a selfish, cold-hearted jerk. Or maybe it was because the classes were actually shorter.

Each class went from the usual hour to thirty minutes. I didn't know this until the end of the day, so it seemed to me that my worrying about James made them go faster.

During lunch, I sat next to one of my best friends, Alice Prewett. She was really nice. A loyal friend.

"Hi, Alice!" I say as I sit down.

She looks up in surprise. "Hey. Haven't seen you in a while."

I shrug. "Studying for Divination takes up most of my time."

Alice's eyes are quarters when she looks at me. "Lily," She says with concern, "We had the Divination test ages ago..."

I stare at her. "What."

She nods, surprised by my over-studying. "What has been going on in your head?!"

"I dunno. Maybe I need a girls' night."

"Yeah. You really do need a girls' night. Who else should come?" Alice looks over at our other friends.

"Ummm..." I look around the Great Hall. "Tonks is nice. Should we invite her?"

"Yeah! Tonks is really nice. Don't we have double Herbology with Hufflepuff?"

I nod. "I think we do. We can ask her there."

"Great! Who else should come?" Alice asks.

I continue to look around the Great Hall. "What about Jessica?"

Alice looks where I looked. "I've never met her. I guess it wouldn't hurt to go say hi..."

I nod, and we walk over to where Jessica Palmer sits. She is a quiet girl, with short blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She was really pretty.

"Hi." I say.

"Hi." Alice says.

"Hello..." Jessica replies.

"We're having a girls' night this weekend, do you want to come?" Alice asks.

Jessica thinks for a moment. "Sure. Sounds fun."

Alice beams at her. "Great! Saturday, 6:00, The Three Broomsticks."

Jessica nods. We go off to find more people. By the end of the day, we have rounded up three more people in addition to the original two we had, Tonks and Jessica.

Alice and I went to Herbology next. Tonks happily agreed to the girls' night.

Saturday, 6:00 p.m., at The Three Broomsticks

Alice and I waited for the others to come. We were both holding our butterbeers tightly, since there was a sudden cold front today. Snow covered the ground. It was quite a beautiful and welcome sight, because it was the middle of December, and this was our first big snow. Welcome or not, snow was snow, and we were frozen.

It was about 15 minutes of waiting, two more butterbeers each, and many shivers later when Tonks showed up. She had her usual bubblegum pink hair.

"Hey, girlies!" Tonks says cheerfully.

"Hi!" Alice and I say at the same time.

Tonks gets herself a butterbeer, and we chat about random things. In about half an hour, everyone was here, and we were all laughing and telling jokes. It felt easy, carefree to do this. Like I haven't had a girls' night in years. As I think back, it actually has been a couple of years since I last had a girls' night.

Then a familar face walks in the door. And I was having such a nice day.

***************************

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been on, but this took a really long time to write. As I said earlier, I probably didn't get all of the facts right. Lily knew Tonks, right? They would have been in the same year? Right? Well, if they weren't, feel free to correct me. Jessica is a character I made up, so don't go searching for her on the internet or something.

Thanks for reading!
