-XOXO, Issy ๐ย
It was the fine morning wind that blew across her face. A woman would totally enjoy it, but not her. Dr. Amelia Kelly walked into the diagnosis office, looking exhausted and her curly hair extremely messy. Chase and Foreman stared totally wide eyed at her as she entered.
"Keep your eyes to yourselves," Kelly snapped. Her eyebrows furrowed as she scowled and sat down, massaging her temples as she pretended to take a look at the patient file in front of her. Even after four days, they still haven't figured out what was wrong with the current patient.
"Looks like someone woke up at the wrong side of the bed this lovely morning," House said weirdly cheerfully, grinning from ear to ear as he took a look at Kelly. Kelly frowned and rolled her eyes. "Stop it, House, I'm not in the mood."
"Oh really? When will you be in the mood, then?" House continued teasing in a not-so-playful way. He knew Kelly was extremely annoyed by his comments and he loved making her angry. Of course, she wasn't half as pleasant as Cameron was when she was mad.
"Leave me alone," Kelly pleaded. House didn't answer this time, but his smirk never really left his face. This wasn't going to be the last time he was going to make her annoyed today, and both House and Kelly knew it.
"So...what's wrong with the patient?" Chase randomly asked, and earned a glare from Kelly across the room. He glanced at her then at House, then at Foreman and shrugged. "What? If you want to keep glaring at me, that's fine tooโ"
"Shut up," House said, irritated. He mixed the spoon in his coffee over and over again, making clanging sounds. Kelly rested her head on her hand as she sighed repeatedly.
"Stop that," Foreman said to her. "Tell your boss to stop clanging his spoon against his cup!" Kelly shot back, her eyes drilling holes into the back of House's skull.
"You don't have the authority to fire someone, last I remembered," House smirked. Kelly definitely did not want to get fired. This was the only job she could get.
Backstory (Kelly) :
Back when she was employed in another hospital, she was the department head of Immunology and also worked in the E.R. for some time, just like Cameron.ย
There was a special surgery reserved for a V.I.P, and she was going to assist another really powerful doctor who had more than fifteen years of experience for the surgery. The day before, she was about to pack up, until the Dean of Medicine in her hospital notified her, telling her to work one more shift in the E.R.
"I'm sorry, but I have an important surgery tomorrow. I have to be very ready tomorrow. It's a twenty hour long surgery, I can't doze off at all," she protested.
The dean of medicine appeared to be very furious. "How can you abandon your duties? As an E.R. doctor, it is your responsibility to do your jobs and complete your shifts!"
With no other choice, Kelly worked the shift until seven in the morning. She drank as much coffee as she could get to keep herself energetic. At eight, the surgery started.
The surgery was extremely dangerous because it was a heart surgery. While Kelly was desperately trying to get herself to stay awake, she did not notice that she did the wrong step. Moments later, the patient's heart was flat lined and he passed away.
Of course, the whole hospital blamed his death on Kelly. Kelly was fired and she had no job at all. News spread around about how bad of a doctor she was, and since the patient was a VIP, the whole country heard about it.
She searched for a job for half a year, and finally came across PPTH. She found out how they hired Dr. House, a doctor, who like her, was blamed for malpractice and being rude to patients. If they could hire a person like that, she for sure could get a job there!
She lacked a good older teacher for so long in her career, which is the reason why the moment she met House, she liked him. It wasn't anything about himโit was because of herself. Never was there an experienced doctor who would teach her so well and didn't fire her for slight mistakes.
End of flashback
"Hello?" Vanessa's voice rang through her ears. Kelly snapped out of her day dream, eyeing her as she blinked multiple times.
"Yes?"
"You looked tired. Here, I got you some coffee," Vanessa said, handing her a cup. Kelly thanked her and looked around, confused. Police station? Did she commit a crime?
She tried to remember why she was hereโright. After she was super annoyed with House this morning, she called Vanessa as soon as she could, asking for more information. She didn't know what for. To leak all of House's personal records? Or for her own entertainment?
How did she fall asleep?
She remembered her coming in from the front entrance, asking to find Vanessa. Vanessa was still somewhere, probably catching thieves, and not in the station.
"How...how did I just fall asleep? I remember coming to look for you," Kelly asked. Vanessa grinned. "I'm not sure, but I came back to the station around an hour after you came. You were probably too tired and fell asleep."
Kelly thought of what she said, and then remembered that was exactly what happened. "So...information again, huh?" Vanessa smiled, sitting up and sneakily looking around.
"Yep," Kelly answered.
"When are you going to come here just to see me?" Vanessa teased, standing up and taking a key out of her pocket, unlocking a drawer. She took out a yellow folder with a memo stuck on it. The memo read, 'House M.D.'
"Ooh. What's in this one?" Kelly said excited as she got it from Vanessa's hands. "Hopefully something good."
"I saved this one just in case you were desperate," Vanessa replied, grinning from ear to ear. "It's interesting, trust me."
"Medical records?" Kelly inquired, her eyebrows furrowing as her eyes sparkled from excitement.
"Medical records, and ย other stuff."
"What other stuff?" Kelly frowned as she dug into the interesting document. There was a small slight of light shining in her eyes as she flipped to a page.
"Here's...everything, really," Vanessa smiled. "His childhood, photos, medical records, mug shotsโ"
"Mug shots?" Kelly exclaimed.
"Yep. Don't you know? He was arrested before because of drugs. He had like, eighty bottles. Vicodin, I think."
Kelly nodded. She did know how House was addicted to drugs, but she never knew what it was. So it was Vicodin all along. She beamed at Vanessa. "Thank you so much," she thanked again gratefully.
"You're welcome."
Location: PPTH, 5th floor, Cameron's room
Cameron was asleep in her bed. These few days, her recovery had been great. She could sit up straight with just a little bit of pain, and her legs regained the strength she had. Her doctor advised her to rest for two more days before being discharged.
Her sleep was interrupted by House going into her room, particularly grumpy at someone. Cameron's eyes fluttered open slowly.
"Damn. You were sleeping?" House sighed.
"Duh. What did you think I was doing, lying here dying?" Cameron joked as she sat up slowly, until she sensed what was happening. "Uh oh. You're cranky."
House sighed. "Son of a bitch getting on my nerves today." Cameron smiled and turned her head, her body slowly retreating back inside the warm blankets.ย
She let him acknowledge the silence between them for a while without turning to look at him, allowing him to calm down before doing the talking. She knew him well and she knew that this was the best way before having an actual conversation.
"Tea?" House offered as he tried to break the icy silence between them. It caused a chilly sensation in both of their spines, not knowing what to say without upsetting the other.
Cameron turned around to study his face. It was calmer than the minute before, and she sensed something well going on. She gave him a small, timid smile and nodded. It was raining outside for the first time in weeks, and the pleasant smell of petrichor made Cameron feel cozy and at home.
"Sure." House grabbed a cup and filled it with tea before handing it to Cameron. They stopped talking again, although this time the silence was not cold but warm and relaxing.ย
They just sat there for five more minutes, enjoying the beautiful rainy view outside and the cozy sound of raindrops splattering against the glass window. Then, without saying a word, House got his cane, got up, and left.
Cameron sighed and went back to bed. It was nearly two in the afternoon, the most relaxing time of the day. How she longed for a shower, a hot one, in particular. She placed her fingers on the button that would alert the nurses, and pressed it.
Soon enough, Nurse Heather walked in. Cameron was surprised to see her. "You should be in bed recovering, Heather," she told her. "I'm telling you this as a doctor. You were in the site too, and you too, were crushed by the collapsed building."
"I'm fine. What do you need?" Heather replied reassuringly. "I assume you want a trip to the shower stalls."
Cameron grinned. "You're right. Can you take me there? My clothes and shower stuff are all in the black bag over there, in the corner." Nurse Heather nodded and grabbed the bag, then pushed the wheelchair next to Cameron's bed and prepared helped her on it.
"No need for that today," Cameron gently said, pushing the wheelchair away. She grabbed the IV drip stand and tested the strength in her timid, skinny legs. "Let's go."
"Are you sure you're alright like that, Dr. Cameron?"
"If I fall, you'll catch me, won't you?" She retorted softly with a gentle smile.ย
"Y-yes, of course I will," Heather stuttered as she accompanied Cameron to the shower rooms. There was only one stall available. "You can use this one," Heather told her. Cameron nodded. "I'll take it from here, thank you."
"I'll be waiting outside," Heather informed her before leaving her alone in the shower stall. Cameron began to remove her gown, the smooth texture of the clothing began to slide down her legs.
She knew she wasn't wearing anything underneath her gownโno underwear, no bra, yet she felt so surprised when she saw a long, surgical scar near her waist. She gently touched it, feeling the incredibly bumpy skin.
Cameron turned on the shower. She let the warm or even hot water run down her chest and down to her stomach, allowing the cozy feeling to wash over her mind. Happy memories flooded into her mind. She loved hot showers. It always made her feel at ease.
She couldn't use any shampoo or body wash at the moment, as she didn't bring any to the hospital. She missed House a lot, especially working for him or just simply talking to him.
After twenty more minutes, Cameron didn't want Heather to wait for too long. She stepped out of the shower after changing back into her gown. "Hey! Nice shower?" Heather asked.
"Mhm..it was wonderful," Cameron answered. Her brown hair dropped down to her shoulders, a few strands stuck in her face.
"Alrighty, let's go back now, shall we?"
House's POV
Kelly ran into my office with a bunch of files in her hands.
"CT scan results?" I asked impatiently, tapping on the table with my pen. She didn't answer, didn't even shake or nod her head. Instead, she looked like she just won the lottery.
"What do you want?" I questioned once again.
Finally, she gave an answer. She threw the files onto my desk as if they were her greatest enemies, then she looked at me with a smug look on her face and motioned for me to read them.
I slowly opened the files, glancing at her suspiciously between each second. Kelly just smirked and sat down next to me. I took one look at the files and my jaw dropped to the floor. Literally.
"Wondering how I got these?" Kelly said smugly.ย
"No, but you should wonder if you have a job to keep. This is violating the privacy of others. And a doctor, too," I stated.
"Too bad. You see, these criminal records of yours," she said, emphasising on criminal records, "have not yet been submitted to an officer or attorney. Which means, no one knows about your crimes, which is probably part of the reason why you made medics. That is, no one except you and I... and how can we forget? A dirty cop at the station."
"No," I emotionlessly said.
"Wishing it's a dream, huh? Too bad for you...it's not. You can say goodbye to your job unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Getting desperate, are you? This'll be fun. Has anyone ever told you that, you know, Cameron isn't exactly the best person to date? She dated a friend of mine back then, you want to know what she did? She torched the guy's car."
"I don't see how this is relevant."
"It is. Because, have you ever thought if somebody else would be, I don't know, a perfect match for you?"
"And that somebody, you're saying..."
She nodded to confirm. "It's me."
"You psycho," I almost whispered. "This is your way to get back at Cameron? This is how you make me 'fall in love with you'? By blackmailing me and my job? Damn it, Kelly, I thought you were better than this."
"Better than this?" She scoffed. "I don't get it. Why would you choose me over her? It's not fucking fair! I have a perfect face, a perfect body, zero scars, top student. You choose that bitch over me?"
"Life's not fair. Now get over it, 'cuz I don't date no sociopaths. You are obsessed over me, alright? But not me. I don't have any romantic or sexual interest in you, got it? You have beef with Cameron because of me, not because you actually hate her."
"No! I like you! Don't you get it?" Kelly screamed desperately, her voice starting to break.
"No, I don't get it. I will for sure lose my job and this will probably be the last time I walk out of my office when you release those records, but right now, I am still a doctor and I'm still your boss. You're fired."
Author's note:
Life sucks which is why the story ENDS HERE. Summary, Kelly loses her job and so does House but Hameron still has a happy ending. And no I will not continue another book. Peace out โ๏ธย
