Bank Heist? I'm 4

12:13, 17 February 2026

Maeve and the 118 suspected for a bank heist.

It was supposed to be a normal routine call. Maeve walked in and already there was a guy foaming at the mouth on the floor, not the worst she's seen though.

"Chim, Eddie, you're with him. Maeve and Buck, you check out the other guy, Hen, you're with me." Bobby instructed.

Maeve followed Buck into the vault where a guy was also foaming at the mouth, other than that, he seemed fine. "His vitals are steady, but why?" Maeve asked.

"I don't know but-..."

"Buck, Maeve, step away from the man... now." Bobby said, stepping towards the vault. The two confused firefighters followed him outside, to where Bobby explained that it may have been a nerve agent.

A chemical may be in the air.

Maeve was listening to Bobby's instructions when she noticed Hen run inside the closing vault.

She shape-shifted into a wolf and ran before the vault closed, following Hen. The man had grabbed the paramedic's face, as she was trying to calm him down.

Maeve was going to help Hen when the door closed behind, and she could hear Bobby and Buck calling from outside. The wolf whined and scratched at the door, barking.

"Hen! Maeve, you okay in there?" Bobby's voiced crackled in the radio.

"We're good cap..." Hen replied, holding her radio. "Just making ourselves comfortable..."

"Not too comfortable." The captain answered before sounding off. The little wolf sniffed around the vault door, before turning to the paramedic.

But she was faced the other way.

Maeve barked to try and get her attention, but something was off. When Hen turned around, she was staggering with foam slowly coming out of her mouth.

Then, the paramedic fell to the ground, scaring the wolf. The shape-shifter started barking a lot, pushing on the unconscious firefighter, trying to wake her.

"Maeve! Maeve, come in..." Bobby called over the radio. Maeve ran over to it, and tried to answer back the best she could.

However, it all came out as barks.

"Why isn't she changing back?" Eddie asked. "She's too panicked, we have to calm her down." Bobby explained. Maeve walked around the metal room, sniffing and scratching at the corners until she slipped on something.

She stumbled to the floor, and whimpered as she got up.

On her face was a clear gel, and it didn't smell right, so the wolf wiped it off with her paw. She waited in that vault for a very long time, lying next to Hen.

Suddenly, the lights went out, and she was plunged into total darkness. The little wolf started barking out of fear until the captain's voice came over the radio again.

"It's okay, Maeve, we're just cutting the power so we can get you out... you're okay, kid...."

Hearing her father's words, the little wolf sat in front of the vault again, waiting for them to bust her, Hen and the bank manager out. As she waited in the dark, she heard a little noise.

But when she turned around, a sharp pain hit the side of her head and the little wolf blacked out.

When Maeve woke up, she wasn't in the vault anymore.

She had shape-shifted back and felt fine now, the room was decorated in animals with the smell of antiseptic in the air. It must be a children's room at the hospital.

"You're awake." One of the nurses said, she was wearing a hazmat suit. "What happened?" Maeve asked her, tilting her head. "There was a suspected chemical leak."

"You were on the job and you fell unconscious in the vault, your father was very worried about you." she smiled. "We can discharge you after a few more tests. You should be back to your dad in about 4 hours."

"Ok..."

"But... you have some guests."

As the nurse walked into the hallway, a group of people that Maeve didn't recognise entered the room, she could guns in their holsters and they looked pretty official.

"Maeve Nash?" The man in front said seriously. "... uh huh.." Maeve replied, squinting at him. "Wow, they really let a kid join their squad...must be a pretty dangerous kid..." The lady next to him said, and Maeve clutched her blanket.

"Now, kid... you, your father and his squad are under investigation in suspicion of a bank heist, and withholding information from us is going to get you arrested, understood?"

Maeve stared at him for 2 minutes before tilting her head, she did not understand. "Huh?"

The man sighed and turned to his partner, already looking done. "You do it." he asked her. "Sweetheart, we think your dad and his friends did something bad." The lady explained kindly, kneeling next to Maeve.

"Do you remember anything from the bank?" The man asked. "No... all I remember is passing out..." The man opened his mouth to say something else but the nurse interrupted him.

"Can't you people wait for her to get better before you interrogate a 4 year old in the hospital?"

...

The next morning, Bobby waited anxiously in the waiting room, pacing back and forth.

When the vault door opened, Chimney found Maeve on the ground with a small trial of blood sliding down her head, Bobby hadn't been that scared since the Minnesota fire.

From the other room, a nurse was leading a small girl out and Bobby instantly recognised her.

"Maeve!" Bobby smiled, running to her immediately. He was still in his work clothes, so he probably just came from the fire station. "

"Daddy!"

"Oh my god, I'm so glad you're okay." He breathed a sigh of relief as he picked up the shape-shifter. The captain thanked the nurse, and took the little girl to his car.

"Hey, how're you feeling, sweetie?" He asked, putting Maeve in the backseat. "Okay.... Is Hen okay?" she asked, looking up at him with big sad eyes. "Hen is just fine... we were all so worried about you."

They started driving somewhere, but not home.

"We have to go to the police station okay?" Bobby said, pulling into the parking lot. "It won't last long, then you, me and everyone else can go for ice cream, okay?"

"Really?" Maeve squealed. "Yeah, we could all use one."

The entire 118 crew (and Micheal) were waiting outside the interrogation room, looking surprised to see Maeve. "Maeve! You're okay!" Buck exclaimed, picking the laughing toddler up.

"Seriously? What, they think we used a 4 year old to rob a bank?" Chimney threw his hands out. "I don't know what they think." Bobby added. Suddenly, the two FBI agents from the hospital came out.

"We'll talk to the kid first." They told Bobby, as everyone looked at Maeve. They probably wanted to talk to Maeve first, so that the others won't say anything to her.

Thankfully, the detectives placed Maeve in those interrogation rooms for kids. Since she was 4 years old, Bobby had to supervise from outside.

"What're you drawing?" The FBI lady asked entering the room 5 minutes after Maeve got in, letting her play with the toys inside. Instead, she chose the pens and papers.

"It's the shark I saved 2 weeks ago. Cap wouldn't let me keep her."

Behind the glass, Bobby was with the other FBI agent, arms crossed.

"It was a full-grown tiger shark." Bobby explained. "And you brought her along to that?" The FBI man asked, making Bobby annoyed. "Before I fostered her, she was almost kidnapped 3 times."

"The 4th time was when I met her."

"Cap?" The FBI lady asked.

"Captain Nash. I am supposed to call him that when I'm at work." Maeve said, switching colours. "No one told her to, but she started taking after the other guys." Bobby told the other man.

"And why do you go to work? You're only a kid, aren't you supposed to be at school?"

"I tried to go to school, but then I got in a fight. I go to work because Cap says that's what keeps me safe."

"Safe from what, sweetie?"

"The black market, and sometimes I think the stove because he does not trust me around it." Maeve smiled because it made the FBI lady laugh a little.

"Shifts are hard, do you stay up that long for every one?" The lady asked. "Cap said that I have to go to bed by 8 pm so I sleep on the truck, but I secretly stay awake because I can't sleep."

"Okay... Can you confirm that you went to work with Captain Nash on the day of the bank job?" Maeve nodded in response.

"Can you tell me what happened that morning?"

"I woke up, Daddy made breakfast, we got changed and went to work. We celebrated Chimney coming back from being stabbed by a bad man."

"Bad man?"

"That's what Chimney told me, I even made him a card! Later, then we got the call and went to the bank, I checked on the big man in the bank with Eddie."

"After that, Cap called us out and said it was something to do with chemicals. Then, I noticed Hen going in the vault so I followed her."

"The vault closed and... Hen got sick, she started foaming at the mouth. She went unconscious, and I didn't know what to do." Maeve went quiet, she didn't like talking about the people she liked being injured.

"I ran around the room, looking for a way out. I stepped in something slippery, I think it was foam from the mouth of the guy or something and... I don't remember what happened after."

"It's okay, what we do need to know is why you didn't foam at the mouth like the others." The FBI lady stated, "Daddy told me that my immune system is stronger than others."

"That will do it." She laughed. "I know my Daddy and my friends didn't do anything bad. I'm with them a lot, and I didn't see them do anything that was related to a bank robbery."

The FBI lady smiled at her and later, they led her out.

Maeve waited for everyone to finish their interrogation for a long time. She felt bad that they all had to sit in a concrete room, being drilled by the FBI agents that didn't act as kind.

By the time it was over, she had fallen asleep next to Buck who was also asleep.

She hadn't slept for weeks anyways.

The next morning, since there was an investigation, it was a day off. Maeve was eating her pancakes with Bluey on the TV when the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" She yelled, waddling to the door.

When she opened it, she was met with a group of police officers. "Sweetie, who's at the-... oh." Bobby sighed, the police officers held a warrant out.

"Are they here about the bank?" Maeve asked Bobby. "Yes they are, come on."

Maeve watched as they trashed the apartment, searching everywhere for stuff that could be evidence. "Really? The condiments/sauce?" Maeve and Bobby asked the police officers simultaneously.

After they were gone, Bobby and Maeve started to clean up. "Why don't they believe us?" Maeve asked. "Because they don't know us, kid. They don't believe us because they think we're lying."

"But you told me never to lie."

"I know, Maeve. It's fine, they will find the real culprit and this will all be over." Bobby said, ruffling her head and kissing her forehead. "Come on, help me with those books."

...

A week passed and Bobby and Maeve were back to work.

With one instruction from Bobby.

"Today, we are going to catch a thief. So when Marty is cornered by us and he tries to run, I will whistle and you get to play 'scary dragon'." Bobby smiled, like it was a game.

Which it was to Maeve.

Marty wasn't told about Maeve's power yet, so when he was confronted, this would be entertaining. Maeve waited at the top of the fire station, her black scales blended into the shadows.

Maeve couldn't hear a lot but she heard the whistle, Marty did indeed run but before he got near to the door. A little dragon blew a blast of light in front of him.

He stumbled back as the dragon landed into front of him, growling. "Good girl, you're lucky my dragon doesn't hurt people." Bobby chuckled, petting Maeve.

"Did I win?" Maeve asked, shape-shifting back. Chim was about to answer when Marty passed out, collapsing onto the floor.

"... oops."

...

During lunch, everyone was talking about the case. "They solved it?" Maeve asked, chewing on some broccoli. "Yes they did, because Athena and I found some hand sanitiser laced with scorpion venom."

"Yeah, that's how the guys were foaming at the mouths. And that's why you blacked out, you were knocked out by the bank manager."

Maeve didn't understand the better half of that explanation of the heist, she didn't think it was too important anyways.

That night, Athena had come over for dinner. Maeve was watching Bluey on the TV while Bobby and Athena talked, and that was when there was a knock at the door.

Bobby opened it and the LAFD chief, the same chief that approved Maeve to join the LAFD, was standing outside. "Chief Alonzo, what brings you over?" Bobby asked.

Maeve ignored the conversation until he mentioned something about suspension. "Wait what?" Maeve asked, whipping her head around. "Sir, but what about Maeve?" Bobby asked.

"I was hoping your squad was enough to watch her, she may be 5 but she is still on for duty. She didn't lie." Chief Alonzo said, and Maeve furrowed her eyebrows. "Daddy didn't lie.." she frowned.

"I did, Maeve." Bobby said, and the toddler's eyes widened. "This won't change anything, it maybe will for a little bit but everything will be okay.." he added, kneeling down in front of her.

"What did he lie about?" Athena asked. "He-..."

"I lied about what happened in Minnesota."

Woah, that's crazy.
