The next morning brought a gentler kind of silence.

Rafael woke before dawn, the faint grey light casting soft lines across his face. Lea stirred beside him, the air still warm from their shared exhaustion. They hadn't spoken much after last night — they didn't need to. The argument had peeled back everything raw and unspoken, leaving honesty in its place.

When Lea opened her eyes, she found him sitting by the window again. But this time, he wasn't staring through it. He was simply there — present, thoughtful, almost peaceful.

"Morning," she said softly.

He turned, eyes meeting hers. "Morning."

For the first time in days, he smiled.

They ate breakfast together in quiet ease. Liam sat between them, chattering about his toy cars and what he wanted for lunch. Rafael listened, nodding, even laughing once — that real, familiar sound that made Lea's chest ache with relief.

After clearing the dishes, Rafael returned to his study to read the morning reports. It wasn't work that needed doing — it was structure, something to remind him that life still moved forward.

Lea watched him disappear behind the study door and took a slow breath. Her phone was already in her hand before she realized it.

Ellie's last message from the night before still glowed on the screen.

Ellie: Thank you for talking with me, Mrs. De Torre. I know this might be strange, but it's been... nice. I didn't expect it to be.

Lea smiled faintly, typing back.

Lea: Strange isn't always bad. Sometimes it's where the truth starts.

A few seconds later:

Ellie: Maybe. I've been thinking a lot about that day in the lobby. I didn't plan any of it. I just... needed to see him.

Lea hesitated, reading the message twice. She didn't press. Instead, she wrote:

Lea: Would you consider meeting again? Privately, this time. No pressure — just a conversation.

A minute passed. Then two.

Ellie: I would. But I think it should be somewhere quiet. I don't want to make things complicated for him.

Lea: Understood. Would here be all right? The villa's private. I can promise discretion — just us.

Ellie: I don't know... Would he be okay with that?

Lea: Let me ask him first. I'll only confirm if he agrees.

Ellie: Okay. Thank you, Mrs. De Torre.

Lea: Call me Lea.

The typing bubble blinked, then disappeared. Then came the reply:

Ellie: All right. Lea. :)

Lea's heart softened. She sat for a while, the phone warm in her hands, before standing and walking toward the study.

Rafael looked up when she entered, reading glasses halfway down his nose. "Something wrong?"

"No." She leaned against the doorframe, her tone careful. "I've been messaging Ellie."

His expression tightened, but he didn't interrupt.

"She's been open. Gentle," Lea continued. "And I asked if she'd like to meet. She said yes — if it's here, and only if you're comfortable with it."

Rafael sat back slowly, the silence stretching between them.

"I wouldn't have asked if I didn't think she was ready," Lea said softly. "And if I didn't think you were."

He rubbed a hand over his face, exhaling hard. "She wants to come here?"

"She said it'd be easier somewhere private. No noise, no press, no risk."

"And you?"

Lea stepped closer. "I want you to see her again, Paeng. Properly. Not in a lobby full of strangers. Not as ghosts from another life."

He looked at her for a long time — searching, weighing, afraid. "And if I can't face her?"

Lea reached for his hand, threading her fingers through his. "Then I'll face her first. But I believe you can."

Rafael swallowed hard. His voice was barely a whisper. "When?"

"When you're ready. I told her I'd confirm only after you said yes."

He sat in silence for several long seconds, the sound of the clock marking each heartbeat. Finally, he nodded. "Yes. Tell her she can come."

Lea smiled, relief and warmth flooding through her chest. "I will."

When she turned to leave, he called after her. "Lea?"

She glanced back.

His voice softened. "Thank you. For not giving up."

She smiled faintly. "I told you, Paeng. I can't lose you."

That evening, as the sun slipped behind the acacia trees, Lea sent the message.

Lea: Ellie, I spoke to him. He's agreed. You're welcome to come by whenever you're ready. I'll send you the address.

The typing bubble appeared almost instantly.

Ellie: Thank you, Lea. I'll let you know soon. I just... I need a day or two to breathe.

Lea: Take all the time you need. We'll be here.

Lea set the phone down beside her glass of wine and looked toward the study. Through the open door, she saw Rafael sitting by the window again, the last of the sunlight brushing his features.

This time, he wasn't a silhouette against the light. He was part of it.

And somewhere beyond the city, the young woman with his eyes and his silence was getting ready to walk into their lives — not as a memory, not as a secret, but as truth finally finding its way home.
