Ch 1: Nosey Little Thing

It was a quiet day in the Avengers compound, more specifically in your lab. It's supposed to be your day off but insisted on staying, it's your quiet place.You aren't really a 'social butterfly' as your co-workers liked to call it. Your work for Tony Stark as a technician, your job is pretty simple: look after technical equipment and occasionally help Tony out with practical work in his lab sometimes you help Bruce too but what he does isn't exactly your field of work.

It's 8:40 and you're the only one left in the lab, you checked over everyone's stations and started to prepare yours for tomorrow. Tony walked in and leaned on your desk with his chin resting on his hand, he was looking at you with those puppy dog eyes.

"Good evening Mr Stark, how can I be of service?" You asked not looking up from your papers.

"Well for starters please call me Tony and would you do me a favour. Pretty please." Tony gave you a cheesy grin, he only gave you that look when he wanted something.

"Sure, what's the favour?" You looked up from your papers and smiled back at your boss.

"Will you please leave your desk for tonight and come chill out with the rest of us? Please I will lose my goddamn mind if I'm stuck with them!" He waved his hands around dramatically to exaggerate his point.

"That was a lil' dramatic, even for you but who's 'them'?" You rolled your eyes as a smile started to tug at your lips.

"The Avengers."

"You want me to hang out with the Avengers?" Your mouth dropped at his answer. "I dunno Tony i'm shy." You looked down and twisted the ends of your hair around you pointer finger as you did when you got shy or nervous.

"You'll be fine, even if you just stayed beside me." Tony shrugged, you furrowed your brows and bit your lip feeling a little conflicted about taking up his offer. "C'mon Y/n, what's s the worst that could happen?"

You agreed to Tony's offer but only if you got to finish preparing things for the next day, you said it would calm your nerves down and he said that was okay. You locked your lab and headed for the common room where Tony said they would all be. Upon your way there you are stopped outside a door where you heard two people shouting and arguing and by the words they were using you guessed that they were together. You couldn't help yourself but stay outside the door and listen 'you shouldn't be doing this' you thought but your curiosity got the better of you. Or maybe it was just the nosey part of your personality.

"YOU KNOW WHAT BUCKY. FUCK YOU WE ARE DONE!" A woman's voice shouted from the other side of the door, you didn't stay long enough to hear the end of it but you felt so bad for this 'Bucky' fellow and made your heart break.

"Ah, Y/n you made it." Tony greeted you as you walked through the doorway. You smiled shyly at him and looked at everyone else who was looking at you.

"Sorry, I got lost." Your voice came out smaller than you intended it to.

"It's all good, let's introduce you to everyone." Tony draped his arm over your shoulders, guiding you around the room introducing you to everyone. You sat down beside Steve and you were quick to become friends, talking about a lot of things and just genuinely having a good time. You eyes were drawn to two figures coming through the door way it was a girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes, she was really pretty and behind her was a guy with brown shoulder length hair and the most beautiful blue eyes you had ever seen that you could have gotten lost in them if you looked for too long.

"Guys I have an announcement to make." The girl said, she didn't look happy one bit and a part of you thought that she might have been the one you heard shouting earlier on. "I'm leaving and not coming back." She huffed.

"Woah Claire. Why?" Steve stood up and folded his arms.

"This just isn't where I'm wanting to be anymore." Claire didn't say anymore and left the room but the man who was behind her didn't follow, he just poured himself a drink and sat down opposite you.

"No offence Barnes, but i'm kinda glad she's leaving." Natasha piped up. "She didn't deserve you." The girl next to her, Wanda nodded in agreement. You were confused to say the least but didn't ask questions, you weren't apart of this.

The night progresses and everyone starts to leave all that's left now is you, Steve, Bucky, Tony and Sam. You all have a few laughs and such, you were sitting squashed up beside Tony on a single chair, you has sat down first and Tony told you to move up but it had came clear to you that he may have had a few too much drinks.

"So Y/n, where do you work and what do you work as?" Sam leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees.

"I'm a technician and I work in the labs 2 floors up, i mostly take care of the technology stuff around here and help Tony out when he needs it." You smile then look down, you feel a pair of eyes boring into your direction but you didn't feel uncomfortable or anything it was more a sense of 'safety' if you were to put it in that way. You quickly glance in the direction of Bucky who had been staring at you for a while now, he didn't look away it was like he wanted you to see that he was looking at you. You offered him a smile and then looked away when your attention was dragged to Tony as he tried to stand up.

"Right guys, I'm calling a quits I'm off to my bed." Tony slurred as he stretch his arms but fails and almost falls on top of you.

"Once again Tony, you've out done us all. I help you to your room." You laugh and then help Tony out the room to his.

"How are you going to get home?" Tony mumbled into his pillow as you dropped him off to his room.

"I'll take the subway or something, don't worry about it." You tell your boss goodnight and leave to head for the front door to leave the compound. You raked around in your bag to make sure you hadn't forgotten anything important which you did. Your house keys. "Shit." You muttered and turned around to go get them back when you were stopped by a body much taller than you. It was Bucky.

"You forgot these, I came to return them." He smiled and dangled your keys from one of his fingers in front of you. You took them and dropped them into your bag.

"Thank you, Bucky." You looked into his eyes and the two of you stood in silence.

"How are you getting home?" He broke the silence.

"I'll take the subway, a bus or something." You looked at the floor and started playing with the ends of your hair again.

"Y/n, are you forgetting what time it is? The weirdos will be out by now." You laughed and nodded. "At least let me drive you home?" He offered.

"I suppose, I'll allow it." You smiled again and followed him to his car.

You told him your address and he started to drive you there. Your mind drifted back to the break up he and his girlfriend had and you couldn't keep your goddamn mouth shut.

"So was that you and Claire I heard arguing a few hours ago?" You mentally facepalmed yourself 'well done, you've just made this awkward' you thought. Bucky looked at you and then back at the road.

"Ex girlfriend and yes that was, I'm sorry you had to hear that." He kept his eyes on the road. You instantly felt bad for asking but you wanted to know more.

"What happened to make her lash out like that?" You asked, turning your head to look at him. "I'm so sorry, it's none of my business."

"Nosey little thing aren't you, it's okay she just wasn't in a good mood and then it turned into a screaming match." He laughed "Is this your house here?" He pointed to the house you were driving up to.

"Yeah it is." He stopped the car outside your door and you got out, walking up your porch steps you turned around and walked back to the car, Bucky saw you coming and got out the car. "Thank you for driving me home." You had just realised how close the two of you were, you could feel his breath on your skin.

"Y/n..." he breathed, you followed where his gaze was, your eyes then your lips. You were close to kissing him but a little voice inside you pulled you away and back into reality.

"I have to go." You took a step back then carried on walking back into your house.

You closed the front door and leaned your back against the door and took a deep breath. On the other end of the door Bucky got into his car and did the same thing.
