EVIE POV
"Hey roomie," Agnes walked up to me with a grin paired with flowers "I bought these for you."
"I'm not dead yet."
"For your mom." she rolled her eyes
"stalker. Marigolds?"
"There's one every corner."
"Thanks."
It was a gloomy day, the breeze was slightly cold, and you could feel how fast the seasons change. Wednesday had just woken up, settling back in like nothing ever happened
I was helping her unpack her things and sort through the letters and gifts given to her
"Get well soon, Agnes" I continued looking through "I took care of all your things while you were gone, Agnes" "blah blah blah, still agnes-"
"Get rid of them." Wednesday said
"Gladly." I throw all the cards into the trash can
"How's Pugsley?"
"Good I guess, I mean you should probably, you know hang out with him."
"I have no time, Tyler's still on the loose."
"What about Enid?"
"Tyler has plans to kill us both."
"What?" I almost dropped the thousand dollar vintage typewriter to the ground "please tell me you have a plan—can I do anything to help?"
"No. Leave this to me" teamwork has never been her forte, but I feel for this time, if we don't work together the outcome wouldn't differ.
"Are you sure?..."
"Leave me alone." Wednesday said, her eyes behind me
"Wha-" I looked to my right, I was sensing a presence but nothing that my vision could see, then turned back to her "Are you seeing things?"
Wednesday looked at me confused then shrugged "You can go now. Ill handle this."
I came to visit Rowan's grave, I dont know why, I just felt the need to.
"Rowan Laslow, beloved son and brother." The headstone said. He was an outcast in a school of outcast. No one knew who he was, nobody cared about his death, and no one bothered to visit his grave.
I felt bad for him, and I couldn't get the courage to go to his funeral nor to his grave and apologize until now "I'm sorry, Rowan." I crouched down placing a single chrysanthemum on top of his grave.
"He tried to kill Wednesday." Pugsley says from behind me
I stood up "Doesn't make him less of a person." I sigh "He didnt know any better."
"No one even knew he existed." Pugsley argues
"But I knew him. And I was there when he died." my brain came back to the exact moment he got mauled by the hyde, me and Wednesday had escaped, "Dont look back." she told me, I knew she was trying to protect me, but I still regreted not doing anything.
"Are you doing this because of Dan?" Pugsley asked
"What?..." I blinked then looked at him
"Because you feel bad about him, too." His eyes avoided mine
I look back at the grave "No. My point is, no one deserves to die. Even if they did something bad."
He said nothing until a few seconds later, he sighs and puts down a withered rose and set it beside the chrysanthemum "Hey, Rowan," he said gruffly, "nobody knew you. Your brother was more popular. But you didn't deserve to die like that. So... yeah. May you rest in peace."
I sigh "Where have you been?"
"Mother was asking for me. She needs help with the flowers."
We made our way to Rotwood Cottage, where Ms. Thornhill lived before, now occupied by Gomez and Morticia.
I stopped before entering the house, looking at it, painted black, I was relieved that they got rid of everything in that house, everything that reminded me of her.
"you okay?" Pugsley was halfway opening the door
"yeah." I went inside just as Morticia was looking for Pugsley
Her black gown trailing across the floor. Her pale face softened when her eyes landed on us.
"Where were you, dear?" she asked Pugsley, then her gaze shifted to me. "Oh! A visitor."
I froze. "Um. Hi, Mrs. Addams." I've seen Morticia Addams, but I've never actually talked to her, I always thought she was so cool
"Morticia," she corrected gently, smiling "You must be Evie. Pugsley has mentioned you."
My eyebrows shot up. "He... has?" I turned to him.
Pugsley immediately looked like he regretted every decision that had led him here. "Uh-well I mean, not like... mentioned mentioned. Just- in passing."
Morticia's lips curved knowingly. "In passing, and yet you are here, in my home." She turned her attention back to me. "It's lovely to finally meet the girl who has been... keeping my son company."
"Company," I repeated "Right. That's... me."
"You make it sound like Im incapable of making friends, mother."
Morticia raised a brow "Darling, may I remind you that you tied your last friend into a catapult, and cried when he said he didn't want to be friends anymore."
"You're welcome here anytime, Evie," Morticia said smoothly. "The Addams house has always had room for strays."
Strays? "Was that a-"
"She means it as a compliment," Pugsley mumbled, dragging me further inside.
"I think she likes me." I whispered my face turning into a giddy smile
"Yeah," he muttered. "That's what I'm afraid of."
We made our way into the greenhouse, as I laid out some text books "So Venus flytraps are-"
"Im bored-" Pugsley interrupted, playing with the walnuts on the plate
"We haven't even started."
"What if we just throw these into the flytraps' mouths? Whoever feeds the most wins. Winner gets to call the other person for help on anything. One time use only, redeemable for anything"
I roll my eyes "I dont need help, im perfectly independent. Plus im already helping you study for Mr. Orloffs class."
"Hey didnt some guy say that 'No man is an eye-land'"
"Island." I corrected
"My point is, there's going to be a day where your going to need someone else's help. And when that day come I might be the only person to help."
"thats not going to happen," I turn to the plant, and start grabbing walnuts "but after this we study."
"Deal."
We started throwing walnuts into the Venus Flytraps mouth untill all our walnuts ran out, we counted in between the gaps of its mouth.
"1...2....3....12!" Pugsley said smug as ever "Twelve walnuts beat that."
"Actually i can, lucky number 13!" I stood up and danced "Ha! you lose! you owe me lightning boy."
A voice interrupted my victory dance "Darling, sorry to interrupt but I need some help with the flower arrangement again, I just cant find the right place." Morticia asks Pugsley
Gomez suddenly appears as well "There you are mijo, I need to talk to you"
"Oh, well then, Evie, I hope you don't mind helping me with the flower arrangements?" Morticia gave me a persuading smile, so I agreed
We left the greenhouse and proceeded to the kitchen where all the dead flowers lay
"why do you cut the rose of the stem?" watching as she snipped another rose off the stem
"Gomez, is allergic." she smiles "So tell me dear, what does your mother do?"
"oh...well she's uh, passed."
Morticia's hand stilled mid-snip. "Oh, my dear... I am so sorry. That must have been difficult for you."
"It's alright," I said quietly. "My dad makes sure I don't live in vain."
"and your father works as...?"
"A Lawyer."
Her eyes lit up. "Like Gomez! How delightful. He's actually looking for an associate. If you'd like, I would be more than happy to recommend Mr. Anderson."
Hearing that made me sigh of relief, it made me want to quit this whole website sponsor thing Principal Dort made me do, and tell Ms. Addams all my problems, but I couldnt "Thank you, but we're good on our own."
I finished the boquet and gave it to Morticia
"Well, don't ever be afraid to let us know. I cant thank you enough for being there for Pugsley."
"No, its my pleasure, hanging out with him...is as thrilling as hanging out with Wednesday."
Morticia picks off some flowers from the counter and puts them in my hand "take this, for your mother. As a thank you for raising such a wonderful child, she would be proud you."
My Dad had made his way to Jericho, mom was buried here, because she thought New York was too city-ish and crowdy, that she'd rather be buried in a small town where she felt like home.
"I still remember our first date, we watched a movie, I picked a scary one, thinking that she'd be scared or atleast flinch, but she never did. Not once. She was way more invested than me." my dad said
"And that was the moment you knew she was the one."
"She wasn't afraid of anything, and independent all on her own. You got that from her."
I place the flowers Morticia had given "I miss you mom."
"Those flowers are a choice. Who gave them?"
"Morticia Addams."
"Addams? you've been hanging out with that family quite often."
"Did Eugene tell you?" I looked up from the headstone
My dad nodded, I forgot my dad has Eugene's number, "The next thing I know, you might be part of their kooky family."
I let out a dry chuckle and roll my eyes, as my dad picks up a call from work, I look at the headstone
If she was still here, would these problems still be here? If she was here she would have told me how to solve it, or find a way to solve it herself.
"Yeah- case MS....."
I could hear my dad talking to his associates, bargaining and barganing, he never gave up with that case. The case the led to my moms death. In truth, my mom had pressed charges against morning song, dad was her lawyer, she died from the stress, but my dad believed she died from their deceiving voices.
After mom died, they gave up fighting.
Or at least I thought so.A/N: We've reached 5k!! TSYM FOR ALL THE SUPPORTTT , changing to some long titles now for part 2 :)))
