Lights
06:37, 3 June 2021The lights.Blinding Faye.
Gisela had Gethen do a special telepathic procedure to remove/bury Faye's ability.
If it was even called and ability.
Faye sat there. Waiting.
She couldn't cover her eyes. She just had to sit there. Sit there in the blinding brightness.
There was white all around her. She was wearing a loose white dress that went past her heels. There was a white hood on her head. Her hands gripped the white chair.
Gethen was wearing a white cloak with a gray eye on the sleeve. When did the Neverseen get white cloaks?
Faye could barely make out Gethens Face in all the brightness. His hands were on his temples. He was smiling a hypnotized smile.
Faye's mind was fuzzy. She felt something in it, but couldn't focus on the intruder.
A piercing pain came from her head. She wanted to scream. Wanted to kick and thrash. But she knew that it would only make the pain worse. Make the pain last longer.
Faye stared at Gethen furiously. She never asked for this. It wasn't her fault.
She couldn't get what Gisela said out of her mind. Faye was unwanted.
Unwanted.
Gethen took a step back, hands falling to his sides. He walked around Faye a couple times before leaving through an invisible door.
Why did he leave her?
Suddenly, the lights started sinking in. Literally.
She looked down at her hands. Flashes of lights were pulsing through them. There were flashes coming from everywhere under her dress.
Her skin was lighting up.
Her hands were bound down. Her legs were too.
Her headache was getting worse.
Faye couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.
The blinding lights got brighter. She couldn't see her hands. Everything was white.
How old was she? What was her name? No. Only bright lights. Sinking into her brain. Becoming part of her.
She wanted to scream in defeat, but her mouth wouldn't move.
What was happening?
Suddenly, everything went black. A door opened, and she heard Gisela's voice.
"Are you okay? What did they do to you?"
Faye could see now. Gisela was standing in front of her, wearing a worried expression.
"I... I think Im okay. I had a really bad headache and then I couldn't see and the light was going into my body and..." Faye said. She hugged her mother and began to cry.
Gisela seemed surprised, having never seen Keefe do this, she didn't know what to do. She pulled Faye's hood back over her head and walked her daughter through twisting hallways back to her room.
"Try to say the word. See if you still have the word in the back of your mind." Gisela said and sat down on Faye's bed.
Faye tried. She searched her mind for the feeling. The word.
Nothing.
She tried to get angry about everything Gisela has told her. She's unwanted.
Nothing.
Faye shook her head, exhausted from the effort. Gisela nodded and gestured for Faye to lay down on her bed. Faye did.
Gisela sat there after Faye fell asleep, hoping her suspicions were false. Faye couldnt be a-
Faye's head started pulsing with lights. Her eyes opened, looking around wildly. She sat up and looked at Gisela.
"Your a flasher." Gisela said, surprised. "Your only ten. That wasn't supposed to happen."
The lights in Faye's head flew throughout her body, lighting up the rest of the room.
I'm a flasher?" Faye asked. "I manifested?"
Gisela nodded.
---------
"YOUR A FLASHER?" Umber asked, she looked at Trix who had an identical surprised face. (A/N: that was a weird sentence. Sorry.)
Faye nodded. She held up her hand and a bright light appeared.
Trix elbowed Umber. "She manifested younger than we were. You should start stepping up your game."
Umber elbowed Trix back.
"That... That's amazing, Faye. Have they found you a code name yet?" Umber asked. Faye shook her head.
"I have some ideas." Trix said. "We have Sparkle, Shine, Shimmer, Glitter, Super-awesome-but-not-better-than-the-amazing-Trix-Flasher Girl..." Umber elbowed him.
"We'll leave that to Gisela." Umber said.
"Leave what to me?" Gisela appeared through a doorway.
"Faye needs a code name! I'm thinking Super-amazimg-but..." Trix exclaimed.
"I heard. And no. That's just... No." Gisela shook her head. "I was talking with Vespera and Fintan, and we were thinking..."
"Super-amazing-but-not-better-than-the-amazing-Trix-Flasher-Girl?" Trix said it really fast so Gisela couldn't stop him halfway through.
"For the last time, no." Gisela frowned. "We were thinking Glimmer."
Umber nodded in approval. Trix, on the other hand objected. "Why not Shimmer? Shine? Or Glitter?"
"Trix, I will personally find a way into Exile and put you there." Gisela glared at Trix. He just grinned.
"Glimmer..." Faye said. "I like it. Only you guys and Fintan and Gisela knows my real name so..."
"You'll be fine." Gisela looked at Umber and Trix. "Mention anything about who she is and you'll be dead. I know you've seen her face before she always wore her hood, and maybe even after." She glared at Faye. "But I trust you guys. If you tell even Spark, I swear, you'll regret it."
"We won't tell Spark." Umber said.
"Who's Spark?" Faye wondered.
"He's... A friend..." Trix answered, suddenly serious.
Faye knew that wasn't the whole story, but she decided not to push it.
"Glimmer, glad to see you here." Fintan said as he passed her in the hallway. "I need to talk with you. Let's go to my office."
Faye nodded. Fintan took her through a few dimly-lit hallways. They turned left and Faye saw the door to his office. The same door that she saw when she was five. When she came to live here.
Fintan opened the door and gestured for Faye to follow.
Faye sat down in one of the large chairs and Fintan sat in another.
"So, Faye." Fintan started. "Show me your face."
"W- what?" Faye was surprised. Fintan has always seemed curious about why she wouldn't show him, but never demanding.
"You know what." Fintan commanded. "Show me your face."
Faye shook her head. "No. I can't. Why?"
"You heard me. And I'm not answering questions until you show me."
Fintan put his hand up, fire flicking from his fingers.
"No. No, no, no, no, no." Faye looked around for somewhere she could escape. She would die if she didn't show him. But she couldn't show him.
The door opened, and Umber and Trix came in.
Gisela was behind them, worried and furious.
"What is happening?" Gisela asked.
The flames on Fintan's hands extinguished. The smile on his face gone. "I was..."
"Don't finish that." Umber snarled. "We know what you were doing, and you'll never see her face."
Trix grabbed Faye and whispered to her. "Use the light to blind him. We'll cover our eyes if you can't focus it just on him. Please. Try you best." He turned around to tell Gisela. Gisela nodded.
Faye let the spark of light in her mind get bigger and bigger until she could feel it sweeping through her whole body. She felt it pushing through her arms to her fingers. The pressure was building up and she felt like she was going to explode. But no, Faye was strong enough.
She pushed the light out of her fingers, forming a ball in the air. She moved it over onto Fintan's surprised face.
The ball grew brighter and brighter, until Trix and Gisela were covering their eyes.
Umber wasn't, though. There were shadows coming out of her fingers, covering the ball of light. The room dimmed.
Faye released her hold on the ball, hoping it would stay. It did.
Umber seemed exhausted. Gisela seemed curious at Fintan. Trix just looked surprised.
"I'll deal with Fintan." Gisela finally said. "We'll take him to another hideout. He shouldn't do that. It's against the code to threaten children with fire." Or... It should be. But everyone should understand."
Faye nodded. She was getting dizzy. Surprised at what she did.
She used her new ability to harm someone.
A/N: that was a fun chapter to write.
1360 words. I think I did pretty good.
That was a weird chapter
