Chapter 7- And In the Night You're Set Free

"O hey where are-" she stopped talking as she looked into a tent to find a sight that was not needed to see. "Nope not O, hah ew," Cora said quickly leaving the tent of the couple. She checked a couple more tents disturbing the sleeping teenagers. Many threw their shoe or clothes at her to get out otherwise they were waking up because of all the noise, "Octavia, I get you're mad at your brother but seriously? This isn't funny."

"Cora?" Clarke asked catching up to her with a small jog, "Looking for Octavia?"

"Yeah, I had Bellamy and Mat go outside the gate see if they could find her."

"Cora, Clarke. Have you guys seen her?" Bellamy asked jogging in with Mat

"No, okay lets just back track. Bellamy when was the last time you saw her?" Cora asked looking at him.

He paused for a moment, "When I went to go throw out the radio. We got in a fight and I sent her back to camp."

"Okay but she didn't get back, Finn and I would've bumped into her on the way there," Clarke said looking at him then Cora.

"Okay so lets go find her. I'll gather the weapons, you guys get a group ready we'll move out as fast as possible," Mat said walking off towards the small little tent a with a small amount of supplies.

"Hey everybody, gather around and grab a weapon. My sister has been out there for more than twelve hours. Arm up we're not coming back with out her," Bellamy said as Mat brought the weapons over. Many of his followers grabbed a weapon form the layout. Many of the weapons were metal made from the drop ship and wood stuck together.

"Cora, hey you know you don't have to go, you can stay back at camp," Mat said as she decided which weapon to take.

"Is this your way of trying to get me to stay here with you look at the stars, be that called romantic?" She asked with a small smile as he picked out his.

"Or you lost a lot of blood and I don't want you to hurt that pretty little face," he responded tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"This pretty little face, and badass personality will be fine, you're such a mom sometimes," she smiled planting a small kiss on his cheek. "Come on lets go," she grabbed his hand and walked back towards Bellamy and Clarke.

"By the way, I make an excellent mom," he chuckled as they walked.

"Guys, guys come here. What is that?" Some kid asked drawing their attention. Cora walked over standing next to Jasper. A number of comments were made of the hundreds of falling bright lights.

"They didn't work, they didn't see the flares," the new addition of the hundred said as she walked up next to Finn and Clarke. She was beautiful, her hair was kept in a pony, her bright red jacket made her stand out, her eyes were a beautiful milk chocolate brown that had constant look of innocence.

"A meteor shower tells you that?" Bellamy asked defending himself.

"It's not a meteor shower its a funeral," Clarke paused glancing at Bellamy then back up to the sky. "Hundreds of bodies being returned to earth from the Ark. This is what it looks like from the other side," she paused once more as Cora and Mat looked at each other briefly. "They didn't get our message," she looked at Raven who looked like she was ready to kill Bellamy.

"This is all your fault," she glared at him.

"I helped you find the radio," Bellamy defended once more.

"After you jacked it from my pod and trashed it," Raven attacked her words sickening.

"Yeah he knows," Clarke said as her and Finn slightly held Raven back. "And now he has to live with it."

"All I know is that my sister is out there and I'm gonna find her. You coming or what?" Bellamy paused receiving a small yeah from Finn. "Then what are we waiting for move out."

"We have to talk to them, three hundred won't be enough. The oxygen level will just keep dropping, if we don't tell them that they can survive down here, they'll kill more people. They have too."

"Guys," Jasper paused butting in, "They're leaving we gotta go."

"As much as I wanna help talk to the Ark, but Octavia is like blood to me I can't ditch her," Cora said looking at the three.

"I gotta do this. You should stay here and fix the radio," Finn said as he turned to look at Raven.

"Fix it? The transmiter's smashed unless you have a parts depot somewhere down here we're not talking to the Ark," she paused drawing her attention to Clarke as she started to speak.

"The art supply store, I know a place you might be able to get a transmitter."

"Great then it looks like you're coming with me instead."

"Finn, we're gonna go find her without you," Jasper said getting antsy. Cora took his free hand to hers.

She looked at him with a smile, "Jasper relax, we'll find her." Cora whispered calming his nerves.

"Be careful."

"Hey," Raven spoke before pulling him into a small kiss, "I love you." Clarke looked overly disturbed as she looked away.

"I love you too," Finn responded there was an unsure tone to his voice.

"Come on Jas, lets go find your little warrior," Cora said taking her hand and patting his back. Cora walked with Mat for a while. They didn't talk much just looked around for signs of Octavia. "Mat I'll be back in a a minute, or five." He chuckled as she walked away. Mat was surprised at the similarities between Clarke and Cora, they'd been friends when they were younger but now they both had a mental obligation to help people. Clarke wished to help the easy fixes or the masses of people but Cora picked people who were broken, damaged. Mat had figured that out because when everyone had lost some sort of hope or trust in him, she forgave him. Cora inspired Mat not because of her fighting method but because of her strength to keep going on.

"Hey, hot stuff, hold up sec," She said finishing her small jog as she caught up to Bellamy.

"What Cora?" He asked snapping his body was tensed, stressed he was worried about Octavia and her well being.

"Relax, friend not foe. Remember?" She looked at him watching as he kept his eyes to the brush and ground looking for the signs of foot prints and broken branches

"Well sometimes you can be a real pain in the ass," He glanced at her for a moment before looking around again.

"Duly noted, but hey stop for a second," Cora said pulling him to the side, the front slightly stopped when he encouraged them to keep going. "Bellamy we'll find her. Okay? She's a tough little badass. You need to relax, stay in control."

"My sister, my responsibility."

"And she knows that, probably waiting for you to get there and save her or she'd being that little piece of a tough cookie and finding a way out."

"Tough cookie?"

"Well she's sweet but she's been a little burnt."

Bellamy nodded, "Great she's a burnt cookie."

"Shut up you know what I mean."

"Oh yeah of course I do."

"Look, over here," A kid shouted causing him to run off. Cora heard another set of steps walk up next to her.

"Cora, you try to hard and last I checked you had a boyfriend so back off," a girl, Roma, said as she walked with her. She was mostly pretty on Cora's scale, her light long brown hair cascaded over her shoulders. Her face was pale and she stood tall showing no signs of fear. Although her eyes said something else, that inside she was just weak and when push come to shove she'd run from a fight instead of facing it.

"I'm not being a little slut, I'm being what you call nice. You should try it sometime."

"You are just a hypocritical bitch."

"I guess I am, but you're also not worth the time it takes to fight," Cora said walking past her to stand next to Bellamy looking down a steep hill.

"Rope," Bellamy said as she walked up next to them, Mat came up next to her grabbing her hand the followed Finn and Jasper.

"What are you doing?" She asked looking at him as he tied the rope to the base of a tree.

"We're gonna need a way back up," he grabbed the rope making his way down to the bush with the buckle. He paused looking over the item which came from the drop ship, "It's hers. I'm going all the way down."

Jasper handed his torch to Finn nodding as he tucked in his weapon then went down the hill. Cora followed shortly after Jasper had gotten a couple feet. She moved her hands down the rope using some larger rocks for sturdiness. Cora made it three-fourths of the way down before she crashed into Jasper, he  supported her as she regained her balance. "Thanks," she huffed out a breath as they walked over to the rock with blood. Finn came next then Mat, they all stood around the rock the tension growing.

"Someone else is here," Bellamy said looking at the foot print obviously not her size.

"I only see one set of footprints," Cora said squatting next to them. She placed her hand within the dirt of the print disrupting it's natural pacing.

"Prints are deeper going that way," Finn said as more people came down, "He was carrying her."

"If they took her she's alive," Jasper said exchanging looks with everyone, "like when they took me." They stood and started to walk in the direction of the prints. They walked for a while using the small amount of light they had to guide them. Everyone stopped abruptly when greeted by ten, twenty and more skeletons of people hanging on trees.

Cora felt the need to keep going as she stood behind Bellamy and Finn with Mat. "I don't speak grounder, but I'm pretty sure this means keep out," Finn said seemingly scaring everyone.

Many people of the group started to leave not willing to risk their lives anymore. "Go back if you want, my sister, my responsibility," Bellamy said walking into the path of skeletons.

"Well fuck it I'm one for breaking rules," Cora said pushing past Finn walking into the forest the light guiding her.

Mat followed quickly, "Well I'm with you till the end and if this be the end please let me go out some what cool." He spoke in an almost joking manner trying to lighten the mood. Cora smiled taking his hand as they walked.

"I'll walk into hell to find her," Jasper said walking onto the path.

Finn followed after him making a comment, "I think we just did."

"If we walked in to hell can I get a shirt or something?" she asked trying to lighten the mood as they walked through the woods. The sun had started to rise as they made their way through the thick trees. They walked for another thirty minutes or so as the sun rose higher in the sky as the group continued to walk

"I got nothing, we lost the trail." Finn said looking around helplessly.

"Keep looking," Bellamy said gripping his axe.

"Wondering around aimlessly isn't gonna help find your sister. We should back track-"

"I'm not going back," Bellamy said snapping at him.

"Guys relax, non of this is helping either," Cora said looking at the two stopping the argument.

"Hey, where's John?" Roma asked looking at everyone stopping the group.

"He was following us just a second ago," Jasper said looking around.

"Spread out he couldn't have gotten that far," Bellamy said as the group started to expand. They stopped as John's body fell from the trees. All of their bodies grew fear inside of them as they exchanged glances looking at the kid with his neck sliced open.

"They use the trees," Finn whispered looking up.

"We shouldn't have crossed the boundary," Cora heard a kid talking as she walked a bit of a ways from the group. Something caught her eye, drew her attention towards wherever she was going.

"Can we go back now?" She could still hear their words as she walked past some brush.

The grounders began to surround them as they huddled together. No one had noticed Cora as she walked over gripping one of her many knives tightly. She could hear them in the background disappearing from their line of sight. She kept walking until she realized she was separated from the group. "Shit," she mumbled looking around. She spotted two grounders, they looked big in size as their fur coats and armor. They had they're weapons and masks on as if they were ready to fight. "You can't run," she paused looking up "But you can climb."

As they drew closer she climbed higher, careful not to slip on the mossy branches. At once the grounders started shooting arrows up into the tree. One got stuck in the tree right next to her face, "Son of a bit-," Her words were cut off as she fell from the tree. Landing on her back she groaned in pain. Cora looked over getting up quickly as she placed her back to the tree she once fell from, she held the blade out. Both grounders went to attack she swiped the blade at one missing but sending him to trip over a branch and fall, the other she kicked back as well. Cora went to run before she was tackled to the ground pinned under the force of the first grounder she knocked over. He held a knife to her neck ready to slice. She pulled the same move on him she once did on Murphy getting on top of him bringing him up and holding the knife against his neck. Her back was close to the tree avoiding another attack from behind. "Where is she?" Cora asked angrily, "Where is the girl with the brown hair?"

The grounders looked at each other with confusion, they nodded slightly using an plan of attack. The one with a blade to his neck pushed her back against the tree crushing her and knocking the knife out of her hand. She groaned in pain as he turned around serving a blow to her gut then her cheek. A couple more blows were dished to her face and a final blow to her gut causing her to fall on her stomach. She felt the moist dirt under her skin shift as she tried to crawl away. The blade grounder stopped her as he stepped on her back holding a large and long blade to her back, much like the one Jasper was attacked with. It was positioned right over her heart . He slowly pressed down drawing little blood.

"Wait! Save this one, she's important," Cora faintly heard as she rolled on her back, disrupting the process of the grounder killing her. She looked up seeing a blurred vision of the two original grounders plus another, "The commander wants her alive." They grabbed underneath her arms lifting her up and over one of their shoulders. She groaned trying to shout for some sort of help. "Quiet," he said slightly hitting her.

-

"They're playing with us," Finn said looking around.

"She only came because of me," Bellamy mumbled running his fingers over Roma's eyes as her cold body was stuck to the tree.

"They can kill us whenever they want," Finn kept talking in a hushed whisper.

Jasper's eyes grew wide in fear, "Then they should get it over with!" Jasper started to shout as Finn tried to silence him. He screamed some more as Finn and Bellamy worked to quiet him down.

"They're coming," the remaining girl, Monroe, shouted drawing everyone's attention.

"Bellamy," Mat said looking around rapidly, "Where's Cora?"

"Cora!" Bellamy shouted out. They all circled him looking for the blonde.

"Any sign of her?" Finn asked holding up his weapon.

"No I don't see her," Bellamy said glancing around every corner. He stepped away for a moment and Mat kept his eye out for him, Mat looked to the backside of Bellamy, the fear in his body washed away as he ran over pushing him out of the line of fire. The bravery went away as fast it came, for this was the moment in life where you say your goodbyes. Mat was going to have to say goodbye. His body slammed against a tree as he looked down at the large stick his chest. His body dropped as he slid down the tree.  "Oh my god Mat don't move, we'll get you back to camp," Bellamy said going back to him.

"Bell-Bellamy you have-ve to t-tell.. C-Cora," he paused as blood spilled out of his mouth, "Tell her I.. I love her." Mat gasped a couple times for air before the life in his eyes left. Bellamy sat there for a moment running his fingers over his eyes closing them.

Bellamy looked down for a moment biting the inside of his cheeks, "I will." The sound of a horn caused him to look up and over at Finn. All the attacking grounders ran as they heard the horn.

"Acid fog," Finn said pulling out a piece of cloth.

"We should run."

"There's no time," Finn continued spreading it out.

-

Cora groaned waking up on a cold concrete floor, she could feel the dirty moistness of the floor. The air had a heavy weight to it, she rolled on her side coughing as she moved. "Aw fuck, not again. I gotta stop waking up like this," she opened her eyes seeing a darker room, the lights came from windows at the top of the ceiling. She sat up holding the top of her head she felt a small amount of moisture, the bandage on her neck was gone and her neck was slightly moist but most of it had scabbed over. She stood up and head for the door tripping slightly feeling a chain tug on her ankle. "Seriously?" She looked around at the area looking for something to break the lock with. Cora grabbed a rock and started to pound on the lock swearing under her breath every time she hit her foot. She stopped and looked up hearing the door open, she saw three grounders walk in, one female and two males.

"Your name."

"Well when you ask like that I just feel so overwhelmed.-"

Cora's sarcastic comment was cut off as she was slapped across the face, "Tell us your name."

"You know if you're just gonna kill me I don't see the reason you need my name."

"If I have to tell you one more t-"

"I don't think you got it through your thick skull, I'm not giving you my name. I'm not gonna give you anything you want."

"You may not but somebody will," She paused. Cora questioned who that would be, did they get someone else? Bellamy wouldn't dare say a word nor Mat and Finn but the other few she wasn't so sure. Then there was the chance that it could be someone else, the never found Trina or Pasquel. There was one last person she thought of Murphy, he'd break and if he saw it was her he may just do it because. "Blindfold her."

The grounders walked towards her and she started to fight them, kicking one in the knee she grabbed his knife and pointed it out at them ready to attack, "You are not fucking touching me." The female grounder tilted her head down slightly glaring at Cora. "Knock her out," she spoke with a large amount leadership, then turning to leave. The two grounders stood there for a moment before advancing towards her, one went behind as the other stayed in the front. She backed herself against the wall gripping the knife. She lunged for one slicing into his arm, although successful the other came up from behind her and hit her up side the head, Cora wobbled for a moment before falling once more.

Hey so pretty deep chapter. I was tearing up writing Mat's death scene I don't know about you guys. The gif  for this chapter can be used both this one and next just be aware of that. And Cora was taken by the grounders whaaa?

But going back to Mat's death: he told Bellamy to tell Cora that he loved her. That's a load of responsibility. I feel bad for Bellamy all that weight out on his shoulders. Ugh my poor baby. Someone once commented on a past chapter about three things they thought would happen with Matt, that he was gonna end up being evil or dickish, he's just a Nice guy or he was gonna end up dead. Weeell death it is.

Can I input the fact that there are some beautiful Coramy moments. Just saying.

So the song[s] for this chapter are...

Keep Your Head Up- Ben Howard// Over all I feel that song is perfect for this chapter. the emotion in the song is breath taking and Ben Howard is amaze-balls.

Say Something- A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera// This song will also be in the next chapter plus it'll be a cover and you'll see why, but if it isn't obvious- Mat's Death. No other words are needed.

So that's it for this chapter I love the votes and all the comments it really makes me want to write so much more and thank you guys so so so sooo much for the 2.17k reads, 80 votes, and 100 comments it means so much to me.

Let me know what you thought of the chapter, characters and songs, and thank you guys again for well just simply reading it!
