Chap. 2 - The Expedition

19:56, 3 August 2017

I reached the five mile mark on the trail, and stopped to catch my breath. I looked at my quiver. It had a couple arrows left. What the heck? I usually have a lot more at the 5 mile point! I turned around, thinking that I had dropped a couple arrows. I frowned in frustration and went back the way I came, tearing away the arrows from targets that I had shot at. I had a good 30 arrows in my quiver! I've only shot at least ten! Where did they go? How do I have 4 arrows left? Maybe Paul put more targets at the beginning of the trail.

Once I had pulled the remaining arrows off the targets I had shot, I walked back to my house. I only had 15 arrows in my quiver. I was missing a whole bunch more..

I stopped at the end of my driveway, and looked back the way I came. I spotted something. It looked like the bright neon orange fletching of my arrows. I trotted over, and saw my remaining 15 arrows stuck in the grass near the trail head. My mouth gaped open. They were halfway into the ground; and in the shape of a symbol I saw on the wall of the fortune teller's crappy RV. I froze, and backed up.

A cold breeze rustled the tall grass. I heard movement in the grass. I locked an arrow in position, and aimed it at the sound, ready to fire. My breathing got heavier. The thing in the grass stopped moving. I looked around. The forest went silent. It seemed like the whole mountain I lived on went silent. The only thing that was loud was my breathing.

The birds that were chirping loudly had stopped. A weird whooshing noise from the grass seemed to suck me in.

I saw a bright flash, and I felt like my heart stopped beating. The light disappeared and with a high pitched squeal, and a huge gust of wind threw me onto the ground. The birds were chirping again. I took a deep breath, and realized the wind had literally knocked the wind out of me.

I got up and laughed at the stupid pun I had made. I felt dizzy again. I leaned down, and picked my arrows from the ground.

The wind started to pick up again, but this time it was the whole forest and not one area. I looked out to the valley. Storm clouds were forming. Lightning strikes lit up the clouds, and thunder boomed. The sky grew dark, and I went inside, feeling strange.

When I got inside, I set my quiver in the ammo closet and put my bow onto my desk. I didn't even bother to unlace my tan hiking boots. I plopped myself onto my bed, and laid there. The ceiling seemed to spin. I got dizzy again. The storm clouds seemed to have gotten really close. Thunder rattled the windows, and lightning lit up my room.

Then the rain started to fall. At first, it was a drizzle. Then I could hear it pelt the roof. The thunder felt like it was rattling my insides. I rolled over, queasy.

I shut my eyes, and saw a vision of what I have been dreaming about.

The black wraiths swung a sword at me, and I ran. This one seemed a lot more vivid then what I had been dreaming usually. As I ran, I almost bumped into a really small person; and when I mean small, I mean tiny. He yelled at me, but I couldn't understand him. I kept running, hearing the screeching sounds of the wraith. I saw a house, and ran inside. It looked a lot like my actual home.

My second chapter! Thank you for reading! :D The picture on the side is the 'Expedition Trail'
