Chapter 28
11:42, 26 July 2021It was his turn to stare, Stiles had been staring at a sleeping Sage for over five minutes. After the rave last night the human told the blonde that he was not leaving her side so it was either he stayed at her house or she stayed at his and seeing as the boy stayed at hers the other night she thought it would only be fair to stay at his.
Stiles knew that she had to wake up soon, he had gotten relentless texts from Lydia, reminding him that it was her birthday party meaning that he couldn't hog her best friend all day. The boy was a little bummed that he wouldn't get to spend the whole morning with his soulmate but he knew that he had to share her, with her being Lydia's guardian and all it was only fair.
"How long are you gonna keep staring?" Stiles wasn't even surprised by the sound of her voice, "Until you leave my house, and if Lydia has anything to say about it, it would probably be in the next five minutes."
Sage hummed softly, her eyes flickered open landing on her soulmate. She loved waking up next to him, it was bittersweet because not all the time did she end up falling asleep with him. The vampire smiled softly at the boy but a frown etched onto her face as she remembered what happened the previous night. Stiles sensing the discomfort in her gently brought his hands up to face.
"Hey, it's okay."
"But we failed."
"We may have not been able to stop him then but it doesn't mean that we're not gonna stop him, next time baby." Sage's heart swelled from the use of the nickname and unlike last time, Stiles had realised what he said.
"I-uh, I didn't-- I mean—"
"Stiles?"
The human gulped as he met her eyes, "Yeah."
Sage smiled at the boy before bringing him into a gentle kiss, the human had frozen up for a second before he instantly melted into it. It was a quick kiss but it still left them both woozy, Sage pulled away from the kiss just in time for her phone to go off, the blonde giggled as Stiles sighed and laid back on his bed.
The vampire quickly sent a text to her best friend, Lydia had told the girl that she needed to hurry up and get her butt to her house so that they could hit the mall. Stiles watched as the girl quickly put on her outfit, his cheeks warmed as he watched her button him one of his flannels before she tucked it into her skirt. Stiles was still getting used to the girl wearing his clothes, but it warmed his heart that she was wearing something of his out in public.
"So I guess I won't see you until the party then," Stiles said as he continued to watch the girl, Sage nodded with a smile on her face before grabbing her purse.
"You sure you don't want me to drive you to Lydia's? You don't have your car."
"It's cool, I'll just run. Need the exercise." The buzz-cut human looked at the girl in disbelief, even if she wasn't supernatural the girl in no way shape or form needed any exercise. She was absolutely fit.
"Well have fun, I know how much you enjoy shopping even if you fail to admit it." Sage smiled before kissing the boys cheek before she headed out the door, Stiles softly sighed in awestruck of the girl he just so happened to call his soulmate.

The door to Allison's bedroom swung open and Sage and Lydia strutted in with a handful of Macy bags. "Clear your schedule, this could take a while," Lydia said, she brushes past Allison and drops the bags full of clothes on the bed, Sage was used to Lydia's endless amount of shopping, the vampire had her own endless amount of shopping trips she did in France and Italy.
Allison watched as the strawberry blonde took out a number of dresses,"How many outfits do you plan on wearing tonight?"
"Lydia has to upstage everyone at her birthday Allison," Sage stated earning a look of approval from her best friend.
"It's my birthday party." Lydia reminded her as she began to take out more dresses from the bags she and Sage brought in "I'm thinking host dress, evening dress, then... after-hours casual."
Allison shifted uncomfortably. "I noticed that you didn't send out any invites."
"It's the biggest party of the year, Allison. Everyone knows." Lydia quipped, Sage sent Allison a raised brow at her questioning.
"I was wondering if maybe this year things, you know, might be different."
Lydia looked at the brunette with a little glare, "Why would it be any different?" Sage had tried to send Allison gestures to stop talking but she had carried on anyway.
"Just 'cause things have been off lately. Things and people." The huntress paused, "Like Jackson." She added.
Lydia's green eyes narrowed at the brunette while Sage's ocean blues were wide. "What do you care about Jackson?"
"Do you know if he's coming tonight?" The huntress asked softly trying to diffuse the situation.
"Everyone's coming." Her response is oddly sinister, causing the vampire to stiffen slightly as she felt their bond shift ever so slightly before the girl broke into a smile again, Lydia models a dress in front of a mirror. "This one's American Rag. Mmm, I love it-- for me, not you." Lydia said to Allison before she pulled a dress out of Sage's bag.
"You have to wear this one, you're my guardian you have to look as good as me." The girl said holding up a dress towards the vampire, Sage smiled at the dress- she knew she bought it for a reason, even if the vampire did have an endless amount of clothes in her wardrobe it didn't stop her from buying more.
Sage took the dress from her before pulling out a small gift box. "Happy birthday."
"I was with you all day and you're only giving this to me now?" Lydia joked as her eyes lit up from the sight of the gift box.
"I wanted you to sweat a bit." Sage mused as she watched the strawberry blonde open up the box, inside sat a small charm that would fit nicely on her already owned charm bracelet. Lydia gushed at the small charm which was two spears crossed together and in the middle where they met was a small amethyst stone, much like the one the vampire wore around her neck.
"Sage..."
"It's the symbol of protection, you know cause I'm your guardian and all. Plus I had a friend of mine charm the stone, so if for some reason I'm not reachable- you will be protected by the stone until I or someone can get to you." Sage admitted as she watched her best friend tear up before she pulled her into a hug.
"I love it, thank you so much." Allison smiled softly at the pair, when she first found out about Sage she never really understood why she so fiercely protected the strawberry blonde, but now she couldn't ask for anything more.
A knock comes at the door making the girls turn to see Victoria standing at the threshold. Sage instantly took in a breath as she smelled the fresh scent of blood and werewolf venom, the blonde was very aware of how and why Derek had bit the Argent woman and when she lived up to the code, Allison would be without a mother.
"Mrs Argent, what do you think of this one?" Lydia asks holding up at dress, "Oh, it's lovely—Allison, uh, can I grab you for a moment to talk? Just the two of us?"
"Erm, can we do it later?"
"Actually, uh, to be honest, sooner would be-would be better..." Victoria said and Sage almost felt pity for the woman, she knew what it was like to lose a mother, the blonde had lost her whole family and she was gifted with a new one but she had many years to get over her family's death. Allison wouldn't have years.
"Party's at ten." Lydia said glancing back at Victoria, "Um, will you be around before then?" Victoria asked awkwardly.
"I think so..."
"You think so?"
"I don't know." Sage looked between the two, she wanted her friend to have closure and if she didn't talk to her mother now she would never get it. It was a full moon, meaning Victoria Argent was taking her life before the moonlight hit her.

Sage huffed slightly annoyed as she looked around Lydia's house, no one was here- well that was until the rest of the pack came walking through the doors. Even so, Lydia Martin's parties are always packed to a T, there are always people here early and people are always hanging out front, but because of the slight drop in the Martin girls status, no one has turned up.
Sage walked over to the group that were huddling together while she nursed the drink Lydia had put in her hand, "Uh, Jackson's not here." Allison said, now joining the group.
"Yeah, no one's here," Stiles muttered, eyeing the blonde with his mouth slightly open. It never surprised him how good she could look, and right now- even if Lydia was the birthday girl. Sage outshined everyone.
Scott looked bored out of his mind as he answered. "Maybe it's just early."
"Or maybe nobody's coming because Lydia's turned into the town whackjob." Stiles quipped, wincing at the look Sage gave him before he muttered a quick sorry.
"She isn't a whackjob, people in this fucking town are too simple-minded." Sage countered, eyeing her best friend with a frown on her face.
"Well, we have to do something, because we've completely ignored her for the past two weeks." Allison said and Scott shrugged, "She's completely ignored us for the past ten years." Scott retorted causing Sage to scoff.
"No, you guys have completely ignored her, as her best friend I have been there for her through the shit she's going through despite the supernatural shit we're going through. Plus, you guys weren't even on her radar yet before I came to town." Sage countered earning a look of annoyance from the huntress, Allison didn't know if what she said was purposely supposed to be an attack on her but she didn't like it.
"We don't owe her a party," Scott said, snapping at the blonde in annoyance, Sage squinted her eyes at him. She knew it was a full moon tonight so she let his tone slide.
"What about the chance to get back to normal?" Allison said softly looking at her puppy dog boyfriend.
"Normal?" Scott asked raising his eyebrows.
"McCall you are completely useless." Sage said earning a look of surprise from the group, "Your co-captain of the Lacrosse team, you're telling me you can't get a few people to come here?" Scott sighed shaking his head before he took out his phone earning a smile from the vampire.
"Yeah, I also know some people who can get this thing going. Like, really going." Stiles said making them all look at him weirdly, "Who?" Sage asked, wondering who he was referring to "I met them the other night—let's just say, they know how to party."
"Well get them here, I'm gonna go gently remind people who I am?" The vampire said with a smirk on her face as she pulled out her phone. Stiles paused what he was doing as he watched his soulmate with a look of confusion.
"Er, Sage. Please don't tell me that 'gentle reminder' is threatening people's lives?" Stiles was met with silence but the vampire just winked at him before she walked away. Stiles sighed as she shook his head before he made a couple of calls, he watched the vampire as she gulped down her drink before strutting towards the door and not a second later the party was beginning to line up.
