chapter twelve

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"I can't believe she would make up a rumor like that." Jayden, a petite sophomore spoke to Kenzie.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"It would've been so horrible if that actually had happened." Her best friend Lexi added. Kenzie took a deep breath.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Excuse me." She huffed, pouring her drink into a plant as she made her way to the balcony. She let the cooling breeze hit her face as she walked to the edge. Her brown eyes scanned the city of New York. Kenzie had always found it breathtaking and every time she looked at it, it was like she was seeing it for the first time all over again. She'd had enough of listening to desperate wannabes talk about 'oh so how heartbreaking it would've been if the rumor was true.' And 'how awful of Kendall it was to make something up like that.'⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"The princess escaping her own party?" Johnny appeared from behind Kenzie, standing right next to her. Kenzie took no recognition of Johnny, just keeping her eyes on the city.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Wow." Johnny marveled. "This is the first time you haven't yelled at me to go away or pushed me."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie turned her head towards him and glared. "It's not like you ever listen anyway, so what's the point of wasting my, precious, breath on you."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He chuckled. "Wow Mackenzie Ziegler has given up on something, there must be something seriously wrong."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie bit her lip, she wasn't about to spill all her secrets and feelings to Johnny, but she felt as if she had no choice. It was almost like he could see straight through her, in a way nobody had ever or could ever possibly do. And she didn't like it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Yes Johnny, something is wrong." She snapped. "You!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Johnny raised his eyebrows, leaning his back against the railing of the balcony. "For once Mackenzie, I don't think I'm the problem."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie crossed her arms and huffed. "Yes you are." She told. Johnny furrowed his brows. "You've always been the problem."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Hey, none of this is my fault." He claimed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie scowled. "All of this started when you slept with me." Her eyes were like silver daggers, ready to kill.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"No." Johnny told. "All of this started when your 'perfect' boyfriend had sex another girl."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie gasped. "You did not just say that."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Johnny smiled at her. "I'm just stating the truth."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Ugh I'm sick of you, I'd rather be in there with a bunch of dumb high schoolers telling me how bad it would've been if Brandon really had cheated on me, than out here with you." Kenzie shot, before beginning to walk back inside.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"No wait." Johnny called, grabbing her hand. A small buzz electrified through both of them and there was a moment of silence as they stared into each other's eyes. "I don't think you want to go back in there." Johnny cleared his throat.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Watch me." Kenzie sassed, flipping one of her chestnut curls over her shoulder and walking back into the party. To which her eyes fell on Brandon, making out with some brunette girl. Tears threatened to form in her eyes. She didn't think he would move on so quickly. As she got closer she got a better look of the girl. Her brows furrowed and she gasped.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Maddie?" She purplexed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Madison - Maddie, Ziegler was Makenzie's older sister, the two could almost pass for twins if it wasn't for the excruciating difference in their eyes. Maddie's were a soft blue, whereas Kenzie's were a deep brown.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Maddie what the hell?" Kenzie yelled. Maddie and Brandon's lips departed from each other's.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Oh uh Kenz-" Maddie began.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"What's going on here!?" Kenzie demanded an answer and she wasn't the type that liked to be left hanging.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"I was going to tell you when I had the chance." Maddie explained, but Kenzie wasn't having any is it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"That doesn't matter Mads, he's still my ex. My ex that you're making out with." Kenzie threw her hands in the air. "What's next, I find you two having sex in my bed."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Maddie's face scrunched up. "What, no." She grimaced, she walked closer to Kenzie. "Look Kenz, it's not like he's a bad person, he's a good guy." Maddie tried to explain. "I mean he's not some Johnny Orlando." She laughed, but Kenzie didn't even return a smile, she just stared coldly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Whatever, you can have the bastard." She muttered, walking away into the first empty room she saw. She slammed the door behind her and plunked herself on the bed. Tears began to roll down her rosy cheeks. It had officially been the worst party of her life. Suddenly the door reopened.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Hey." Johnny spoke, as he entered the room, closing the door behind him.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"What are you doing here." Kenzie sniffed. "Come to taunt me about our sex life again."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Johnny rolled his eyes. "No, I came to see if you were okay."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie looked at him, tilting her head and huffed. "Why do I find that hard to believe?"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Johnny sat beside her and sighed "If you really want I can go find Annie." He offered.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"No." Kenzie told. "Annie would never understand, she's never been cheated on." She shook her head. "Nobody would ever cheat on her anyway, she's beautiful."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Well I think that you're ten times more beautiful than she'll ever be." Johnny smiled. Kenzie looked at him, for the first time since he walked through the door. Her normal intimidating glare had softened. She didn't say anything, instead she just softly placed her lips on his, and it was like the whole world spun. And this time it was different. She wasn't drunk and she knew exactly what she was doing.
