Chapter 65

10:08, 29 January 2016

*Payton's POV*The doorbell rang, and my eyes shot open. Mark was here.

I unwrapped myself from Brook's arms and walked over to the front door, Brooklyn following me close behind.

I opened the door and my eyebrows furrowed at who I saw standing there.

"Uh, I'm Brayden, Mark sent me over, something came up and he just wanted me to stop by and get the story for him," a teenage boy, with brown hair in a quiff and dark brown eyes stood there. (Idk why but I picture him as Cameron Dallas don't ask).

"Um, come in I guess," I chuckled and let him in. He was wearing a black Diamond&Co. hoodie, khaki jeans and black vans.

I was really surprised to see Brooklyn being completely calm about Brayden. He's usually be giving him a glare, or clenching his jaw trying to hold back from saying something by now, but he was totally okay with Brayden being in my presence. I guess we were in the point in our relationship where jealousy didn't bother us.

"So, what's the story, who are we stalking next?" He joked, as I led all of us back to the living room.

"We?" I asked confused.

"Oh, um, Mark's my dad, he sends me on stalking missions constantly, I'm pretty good at what I do," he said.

"Ah, gotcha, anyways, here's the story. Actually, would you wanna tell it Brook? It's better coming from your side," I turned towards Brooklyn.

"Sure," he nodded his head and started. "So me and Payton have been dating for a while, and my ex, but not really ex, Savannah has been.. persistent. You could say that she really doesn't like Payton, but we wouldn't know if she would go this far. Payton models, and she used to have an.. eating problem." A look of hurt flashed on his face and I put my hand on his as he continued. "We were in San Diego for a tournament, and while Payton was away, a girl who I'd never seen before approached me and told me that if I didn't make it look like I was cheating on Payton in front of her, she would release the information about her past anorexia. I did it, only because she had a major show she couldn't lose for, but now that we're together again, we're worried that whoever did it might release the info anyways."

"We just wanna find out who was blackmailing us, and preferably soon, I still have my show coming up and can't have my career at stake," I sighed and Brooklyn squeezed my hand in a comforting way.

"We'll find whoever it was, don't worry," Brayden reassured, and then got up to leave.

"Thanks, for doing all this. This probably isn't a top priority compared to people trying to murder other people and shit like that, a dive heard from your dad," I laughed.

"Yeah, no one's trying to murder you, but I'm sure my dad will still take this as seriously as any other case he has," Brayden smiled before opening the front door. "He'll contact you once he gets any leads, which will probably be either late tonight if the case is easy and the person isn't that smart, or tomorrow if the person is a mastermind of some sort. But don't worry, everyone leaves a trail of some kind. They always do," he finished off before getting in his Black Mercedes and driving off.

I closed my front door and sighed. I really hope there's a trail. Otherwise, I'm screwed.

"We'll find out who did this, don't worry Pay," Brooklyn comforted, I guess because he could sense my anxiousness. Next thing I knew, was that I was pulled into Brook's infamous hugs, that make your insides go to mush, and all of the thoughts in your mind go away.

"I know they'll find them, but I'm just scared of what to do when they do.." I sighed. If it was someone I hated, like Savannah, which I doubt even she would go that low, I wouldn't care that much. I'd just confront her and make it all go away. But on the other hand, what if it wasn't? Who else have I screwed over in my life? Who else hated me that much?

I didn't want to think about this any longer, so I just released myself from his hug.

"Can we do something? Football? Movie? Anything? I just don't want to keep thinking about this it's really screwing with me not knowing," I said.

"Sure, what're you up for? We can invite Cara and the guys over and watch a movie and make food? That always seems to cheer you up," he offered.

"They're all probably at the party right now," I thought out loud.

"Then a movie it is," he nodded, walking over to one of the cabinets, grabbing the small silver remote, also known as an Apple TV remote. Those things are so small, they get lost constantly.

"Hmm, I'm in the mood for Channing Tatum," I giggled. Yes, I have movie moods, get over it.

"Why do you need Channing Tatum when you have me?" Brooklyn smirked and I pushed his face away with my hand. "21 jump street?" He asked and I nodded my head like a hyperactive seven year old.

We up watching both 21 and 22 jump street, as sort of a marathon type thing, before Matt and Sean came back home. Except they had Layton and Josh coming back with them.

They looked completely sober, and didn't smell of Alcohol and Smoke, like everyone does coming from a party. I gave them a confused look, and Sean sighed.

"Party was broken up by the cops early," he explained.

"Why do you guys keep going to Jaden's parties if they always get broken up by the cops and you barely get away each time?" I laugh.

"Scared of cops now, Payton?" Josh raised an eyebrow.

"I've had plenty of unwanted run-ins with them in LA," I shuddered.

"Oh my god, tell the story about Jacob's party," Sean was in hysterics, along with Kaden. Of course they knew, I told them everything, even if they hadn't been there with me.

"Okay, so I was 14 or 15, and one of my best friends at the time, Madi, stole her mom's car while she was out of town, and picked me up so we could go to a party at our friend Jacob's house. Keep in mind that Jacob's dad was the sheriff, and why we thought that that was a good idea? I have no clue," I laughed, then continued. "So we got to Jacob's house, and there were a bunch of kids from our high school there, and they were all drinking, and some were doing drugs in a back room, pretty chill party. Then kids from our feuding high school decided to crash the party, and drink all of our alcohol. So in order to keep our reputation and not let them crash the party, everyone from my high school started chugging all of the booze we had. I for some reason, thought it was a genius idea to chug a whole bottle of Jack Daniels, but I did and by the way, worst hangover of my life the next day resulted." I took a moment to compile my horrible memories of that hangover and push them aside, shuddering a bit in the process. Think of your everyday hangover. My hangover ate that as a snack between Lunch and Dinner. "Anyways, everyone started freaking stampeding out of the tiny back kitchen door, and I was really confused until I realized that the cops showed up and were arresting everyone. So everyone was in the backyard, and hopping fences, until the fence collapsed and everyone was running through neighbor's yards to get away. Cops were tackling people, handcuffing them if they resisted arrest, all that shit. I couldn't find Madi, or my other friends Jack and Cole, so I just went with this other group of girls who were gonna hide in a small chicken coop in one of the neighbor's backyards. So obviously, everyone was calling everyone, trying to figure out where they were, and where they parked the car. We hid in the chicken coop, when a cop was like a few feet away from us, someone called one of the girl's phones, and it rang for maybe half a second before she silenced it. Then the cop was like 'you ladies wanna come out of there?'. We ended up going back to Jacob's backyard, where the cops held everyone who was caught. The cops had us go into two groups, drinkers and non drinkers. I obviously went to the drinkers side, because no way in hell was I gonna lie to a cop when I was obviously not even able to walk over without tripping over my own legs. They tested everyone on the non drinkers side, and found out who was lying and whatnot, and then they told us all that we could leave if a parent came and picked us up. I think we were all really shocked to find this out, because apparently, they had tackled a guy with a big backpack on, who kept resisting arrest, and they found a big jar of weed inside. We all didn't care though, we just wanted to go home. Since Madi had ended up being caught with me, we had to figure out how to get home because a) her mom was out of town, and b) she parked her mom's stolen car in the front driveway. She called her sister, and it was like 3am at the time, and her sister and her boyfriend came and picked us up, but her car was still parked in the front. We told her sister's boyfriend to just get in the car, start the engine, and drive away, hoping that no cops would notice. He did just that, but ended up being caught by a cop, and Madi had to have confessed to everything; stealing the car, driving us here, on top of her drinking at the party. The cop was like 'listen, you would be the top priority for us right now, if we hadn't found that guy with the drugs that we have to deal with, I'm letting you off with a warning.' So basically, we all got off the hook, but all had the worst hangovers the next day. So let's just say, cops and I don't have that great of a relationship," I finished off.

"I keep forgetting how horrible you were in LA," Kaden joked.

"Yeah, well what can I say? Everyone has a troublemaking side to them, mine just happens to have outbursts a lot more often than others. So I don't wanna hear anything about me being a goody anymore," I pointed my finger at all of them.

"Just don't get into too much trouble anymore," Brooklyn winked.

"That, I can't promise anyone."
