Chapter 3
10:09, 24 August 2016*Payton's POV*(in the media slot there's a picture of Ben Foster, Payton's dad. Just so you guys know who I'm talking about and in my opinion he's the best under credited keeper! West Brom is bomb btw pls don't tell me that I'm the only one who thinks that❤️⚽️)
I was just a few paces behind my dad and all of his friends upon arriving at the Beckham's house across the street. Their house was a bit bigger than our own, but anyone who didn't know what the inside of ours looked like, bigger on the inside, wouldn't be able to tell the difference. We all followed David into the house. Victoria was holding Harper, walking towards us down the stairs.
"Nice to see you all again," she smiled warmly. "And who might this gorgeous girl be?" She said looking at me.
"This is Payton, my daughter," my dad said before I could introduce myself.
"Hi, it's very nice to meet you Mrs. Beckham," I smiled, shaking her free hand that wasn't holding a child up.
"Call me Vic, please," she insisted.
"The backyard's right through this door here," David motioned to the back door, across the living room. Through the tall paneled windows I could see a big turf field, a beautifully decorated patio, a barbecue section, a gigantic pool/hot tub area, and a garden filled with every flower imaginable. David led us through the backyard towards the field while Vic decided to make us snacks. Right away I noticed a group of guys around my age playing on the field, including my brother Sean.
"Hey, Brook, mind if we play out here?" David asked one of the boys, who I assumed was his son. "Brook" glanced over me momentarily, then smirked and replied.
"Wouldn't mind at all."
Rolling my eyes, I set down my football bag and took out my signed CR7 Galaxy mercurial ball. I put clear nail polish over the signature so it wouldn't fade, but I still used the ball because it was my favorite. Before we started the game, I wanted to get water for later, because I realized that I didn't bring any.
"Hey, David? Do you have bottled water by any chance?" I asked while juggling the ball with my feet.
"Yeah, it's in the fridge, help yourself," he answered. I jogged back into the house and went into the unoccupied kitchen. Weird considering I last saw Vic and Harper in here. Not thinking much of it, I looked into their freakishly organized fridge and found water bottles stacked on top of each other on a bottom shelf. I grabbed one and started drinking it, because not gonna lie that jog here was pretty tiring.
Note to self: start running again you're getting winded too easily to be a football player.
I started heading outside, turning a corner when someone walked right into me, spilling the opened water bottle I was holding all over me.
"Hey, watch where you're goi--" It was 'Brook', cut off when he noticed who I was. "Uh.. Sorry," he scrambled for words. I was kind of still in shock because ice cold water was just spilled on me.
"No it's my fault, I wasn't paying attention," I laughed, taking my soaked North Face off.
"Um, not to be rude or anything but who are you?" He asked, laughing the awkwardness away.
"I'm Payton, Ben's daughter.." I said smiling.
"I'm Brooklyn.. Beckham." he said clarifying, clearing his throat nervously. Oh that must of been awkward, seeing me, a random stranger in his house.
"Right." I said, still a bit irritated that I was soaked in water from before. "Well I'm going back to play outside.." I pushed my way around him, but he grabbed my waist and kept me from going around.
"Wait, I'm sorry.. would you maybe want to go to lunch or something tomorrow? Sort of an apology thing?" He asked me, still gripping me around my waist.
"No thanks." I said firmly, squirming from his grip. I really didn't feel like this was the time to score a date. Just then the doorbell rang and Brooklyn went to answer it. I found paper towels to clean up the spill I'd made earlier. Well, Brooklyn made.
*Brooklyn's POV*I was walking through the kitchen to get my shin guards when I ran into someone walking around the corner. Turns out, it was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen. In my house. And I spilled water all over her. Nice one Brooklyn.
She wasn't really interested in me at all, and a bit mad, might I say. Weird. Any girl wouldn't think twice about going on a date with me. But that's only because I'm a Beckham. We ended up having a small conversation, and she explained to me that she was Ben Foster's daughter, and that they were playing a match outside, when there was someone at the door. I went to go answer it to find Kaden, one of the guys on my team, standing there.
"Um, hi?" I asked. He started to say something when Payton interrupted.
"Kaden!" She yelled out, running to jump and hug him. Kaden = Payton's boyfriend? He never mentioned any girls before..
"Hey Pay," Kaden smiled into the hug.
"Hey Brooklyn," Kaden greeted with a small nod.
And with that they were in my backyard.
*Payton's POV*Once the doorbell rang, I had a feeling it was Kaden since I was expecting him. I ran over to give him a hug since I haven't seen him for so long, then went outside to where everyone was. Everyone looked over once we came out onto the patio and walked over as did we, meeting in the middle by the bonfire pit.
"Okay teams, would you boys like to play?" David asked. Great. They all nodded and I couldn't help but notice Sean glancing over at Kaden and I every so often. I rolled my eyes at his overprotectiveness and listened to teams.
"Let's play adults vs kids?" David announced. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Now since you're all kids, we're gonna go easy on you," my dad said mockingly, getting his keeper gloves on.
"Please, if anything i'd think that I would need to go easy on you," I said sassily. Followed by everyone on the kids side laughing. I was only kidding, bc I really do suck.
"We'll see about that now," David laughed. We flipped a coin to see who went first, and it was my dad and his friend's team. We played for about 35 minutes before a goal was made. I was sprinting from our side to the other to receive the ball from Brooklyn, who then passed to me. I ran up til about 30 yards away and Robin was guarding me, when I acted fast because my dad and David were running up. I used a new trick that I learned just last week, pulling the ball back behind me but then flicking it forward, nutmegging him(if you're not familiar with soccer terms then nutmegging is basically shooting the ball between someone's legs when they're trying to get the ball away from you). I ran to 20 yards and before anyone could defend I shot with my right foot and made a goal, bending the ball in front of Beckham himself. Then it hit me.. I just freaking nutmegged and scored against a team of professional players. Since when did I get good?! My thoughts were interrupted when I heard voices talking.
"Damn Pay," Sean said surprised along with everyone chuckling behind him. "Since when did you get so good?"
"Since I played everyday out of boredom when you all left me," I countered and Matt, Kaden and Sean raised their hands in defense.
*Brooklyn's POV*Payton just beat a professional football player at his own game. Wtf. This girl.. She's practically a model, which I'm pretty sure she actually is, she's not bitchy like any other girl I know, except for the fact that she doesn't really like me at the moment, she's fit af, and plays football and nutmegs pro players on a daily basis. I need to make my move now, or I'm gonna get friend zoned fast.
*Payton's POV*"Payton.. How come I've never seen you play like that before?" My dad asked me.
"Because you never see me at all.. I'm always outside on the field practicing, but you're either at practice, a game, or at an event." I sighed. I never really do practice, I just go to the field whenever I need to think things through.. and apparently I've been doing a lot of thinking lately.
"I know that, and I wish things didn't have to be like that but now that we're not in LA, I'll have more time to spend with you. But you're really good Payton. Really. You should consider trying out for a team," he said pulling me into a side hug and messing up my hair just like he always did when I was little. I glared at him for that and he just chuckled in response.
"Yeah, I'm sure we'd all be going to your games and cheering you on in the stands," David said, laughing.
"That's reason enough to not try out," I joked.
We finished up the game and it ended up being a tie 1-1, and we couldn't break it because we've been playing for 3 hours too long trying to. The Beckhams and my parents had an event to go to, so my dad asked that I get home at a reasonable hour because they wouldn't be home til late. I was starting to leave and gather my stuff when a voice interrupted me.
"Hey Payton?" Asked a male voice.. I turned around to find that it was Brooklyn's. "Nice job today. Never seen a girl play like that."
"If this is your way of flirting with me, I'm not interested." That might of been a bit harsh, but I needed to get the point across. I'm not one to judge.. but Brooklyn seems like the typical 'fame gets to your head', troublemaker type. I was forced to move here because of me constantly being in trouble, so I need to stay away from that stuff. I left him right after I said that, not giving him any chance to respond.
