Chapter 3

03:02, 20 November 2015

The atmosphere in the house had changed and not for the best. Loki was left alone in the kitchen with the only the blackened Turkey to keep him company.

Recipes laid scattered on the countertop along with many ripped articles title, "How to host the perfect Thanksgiving."

Loki's eyes traveled to the window that overlooked the front porch. Under the dim yellow light of the streetlight, Loki could make out Thor and Jane sitting together on the last step of the porch.

He felt bad for the mortal woman- no, pitied her. He could not deny that he had seen something similar in her actions that were similar to his actions in his past. She just wished to prove her worth, prove that she could rise to the challenge.

Maybe it was the new found empathy for Jane, or possibly for the sake of Thor; or maybe he had official gone mad. Whatever the reason was, Loki actually decided to do something good.

Quite good, actually.

Not secretly for the benefit for himself or to hide some trick, but purely because he felt it was something he had to do.

It was as if he had been overcome by the Thanksgiving spirit- yes that's quite certainly a thing.

With an effortless flick of his wrist, the food lifted into the air and started moving orderly into the dinning room. The vegetables were steaming, the biscuits we're golden, and the turkey was restored to a nice roast.

Loki felt much pride in his work when he realized that his display was far more superior then any of the pictures cut from the catalog.

As he reveled in his skill, Jane and Thor had rendered from outside. Jane was about to look for the phone to order takeout when she saw the dinning table set, the food done to perfection, and a proud Loki standing at the head of the table.

"You fixed it!" She said in awe, her eyes bugling. She still could not process that the once inedible foods were now looking quite agreeable.

As the room was filled with 'ooh's' and 'aaahs' as the others joined the three, Thor clapped Loki on the shoulder joyously before thanking him greatly and admiring his work along with the others.

"What?" Loki asked when Jane pulled him aside from the group.

"Why did you do this?"

Loki was prepared to reply with a snide comment or answer in a joking manner, as he would have usually done. But his walls had been weakened and he allowed Jane to see a crack in the surface.

"My motives don't matter. What matters is that you should realize that you will never have Odin's approval." Jane's stilled, and he quickly continued before she could interrupt. "His approval does not matter, what matters is that you have Thor's and you don't have to go to great lengths to prove yourself to him. He loves you deeply, and that's enough."

Jane was speechless for a moment and didn't know what to say. But two small, yet impactful words came to mind as she smiled and softly said, "Thank you."
