Chapter 8:

03:15, 15 May 2023

*EDDIE'S POV:

I couldn't see anything. The surroundings were pitch black──a color seeming to have shown up in my life a lot more. Looking around, I walked within the apparent opened space and called out to anyone. Hello? Is anyone there? Where am I? No one answered, but I knew I wasn't alone. The eerie feeling of another presence lurked in the air. Something could be standing right in front of me and I wouldn't be able to see it. Though I was well aware this was a dream, I didn't know what to do. Like I said before, I usually just sleep, so all of these dreams are confusing. Why am I experiencing them?

"Can someone help me?" I yelled. Still no reply.

Maybe that pinching thing will work, like when someone says "Pinch me, I must be dreaming!" I placed my pointer finger and thumb against my hand and pushed them together, causing a sting. I did it again, closing my eyes, and letting my finger and thumb do all the work. I moved from my hand to my arm to my other hand to my cheek and even to my bottom lip. I was still surrounded in darkness. I didn't want to stand around and wait for my body to wake up. That'd be boring.

"Hello, Eddie."

The deep voice made me jump.

"Who's there?" I asked. No one replied. "I know someone's here."

"It's so nice that we can finally talk." the voice spoke. I couldn't figure out which direction it was coming from.

"Who are you? Show yourself!" I shouted.

"Only for a small amount of time, sadly."

"What?" I asked, confused. I tried to turn around, but I was involuntarily frozen. I couldn't move at all. "What the hell?"

That's when I felt a hot breath brushing against the skin of my face and neck. I knew someone was in front of me. I couldn't do anything about it. His breath was putrid smelling. The odor was far too foul; it smelled like decay. It made me want to puke. "Whoever the hell you are, you need to brush your teeth."

"You're going to be fun." the man said. You could hear the smirk.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

A pair of glowing red eyes appeared in front of me and would come and go again as the man blinked. The reddish glow radiated and I could see the outline of his mouth and his yellowish teeth. He was definitely smiling but it wasn't a welcoming one. "You'll see."

With that, a sharp nail scratched against my left cheek and I began to fall. Luckily it was one of those quick frightening falls, so I ended up jolting awake. What the hell did "You'll see." even mean. How am I going to be fun? What's fun? I felt the sting on my cheek where I was scratched. I slowly brought my fingers up to my left cheek and grazed around the area. I didn't feel any skin breakage, but I turned the lamp on and slid out of bed to look in the mirror.

My heart stopped when I saw a red mark stretching along my face.

***

After that nightmare, I decided I wanted to go Audy's house. I remember her texting me and saying that she was gonna be alone today, so why not visit her.

-Babeee

-Mind if I keep you company today?

-Luuuuunnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

-LUNA GOODMAN

-HELLO

-ARE YOU DEAD?

-OH MY GOD YOU TRIED TO DROP KICK A ROBBER DIDN'T YOU?

-NOW YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD.

-I TOLD YOU YOU'RE A BOOKWORM.

-NOT FRICkEN JACKIE CHAN.

-seriously babe

-Maybe we could do something ;)

-No I'm kidding I swear I was trying to be a stereotypical hormonal boy

-I'm coming over anyway xx

She never answered any of my texts, so eh, what the hell? I went over anyway as a surprise. I could hear the music from outside her front door. I tried to twist the knob, but it was locked. Luckily she gave me a spare key. The music instantly got louder as I opened the door and walked in. She wasn't in the living room, but her bluetooth speakers were. I peeked around the corner into the kitchen and found her. I had to laugh──she was literally halfway in her fridge. She pulled out orange juice and drank it straight from the carton, occasionally taking breaks so she could scream her favorite parts of songs. Her dancing was horrendous, but she looked so cute while doing it. I recognized what she was wearing as one of my hoodies that I'd left here before. And I'm pretty sure she's not wearing pants. I was leaning against the wall, watching as she danced and sung around the kitchen. I'm quite surprised that she never turned around. Someone could've robbed the house and she would've never known.

Scare time.

I stealthily made my way around creeping up behind her. At the perfect moment, I quickly wrapped an arm around her waist and slapped a hand against her mouth, screaming "Give me your money!"

She instantly panicked, jumping, screaming, and reaching for my hand. She broke free and turned around, jumping at the sight of me.

"Scare ya?" I smirked, pausing the music.

Audy had a hand to her heart as she gasped for air. Oh yeah──I scared her.

"EDWARD FUCKING MUNSON YOU SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME! OH MY FUCKING GOD!" she screamed, slapping my chest repeatedly.

"Hey, I told you I was coming over."

"You did not."

"Oh, yes I did. When's the last time you heard your phone go off?" I asked.

"It never went. . .god dammit." she cursed, staring at her screen. Her music was too loud for her to hear her phone vibrate in the first place. "I still can't believe you did that. I hate you."

"No you don't." I grinned, hugging her from behind and pressing my lips to her neck. She giggled. She can't stay mad when I do this.

"So, um, Eddie?" she questioned.

"Hmm?" I hummed.

"Exactly how m-much did you see of me?"

"I watched you chug that whole carton of orange juice."

"I did not chug the whole thing!" she squealed.

"Whatever you say, babe. You look hot in my clothes by the way." I said, taking a drink from the orange juice carton myself.

"It's just your hoodie. The rest are my clothes, Eddie." she corrected.

"Ah, right, because I don't wear panties." I said, glancing at her. She really didn't have any pants on──just underwear.

"You probably don't wear any underwear." she teased.

"Wanna bet?" I challenged. "Besides, that'd be way too uncomfortable in cargo shorts."

"Well would it be comfortable with athletic shorts?"

"Audy, are we having this conversation about my dick being comfortable or not?"

"Maybeee," she cooed.

"Did I ruin your alone day?" I asked.

"Yes," she said flatly. "No, I'm kidding. Besides my fricken──whatever the hell that jump heart attack thing was──you made it better. I was getting bored."

"Good, because I wasn't leaving."

"Is that right?" she smirked, draping her arms around my neck.

"Mmhmm," I answered, placing my hands on her butt. I hoisted her up and swung around to sit her on the counter.

"Eddie," she giggled, "this isn't sanitary."

"Audy," I mocked, "I don't care."

"Can I at least go put pants on?"

"Nope, you're staying right here." I said, pressing her legs down.

"You just like seeing me in panties." she teased.

"That is correct." I said cheekily. "Now, we could either stay here and do stuff, or go out."

"Where would we go?" she asked.

"Good point. Let's stay here." I said.

*LUNA'S POV:

When Eddie had walked away to get something from the cabinet, I hopped off the counter and made a run for the stairs. I had to put pants on. I heard him shout from the kitchen as he ran after me. I reached the stairs, but he enveloped his arms around my waist and swung me around, "Mm, nice try."

He tossed me onto the couch and took a seat next to me. The both of us ended up laying down with our legs tangled together. The show was terribly boring and slow, so I thought of a suggestion. "Let's make out."

I heard a small chuckle from the other side of the furniture. "Okay," he said simply.

I sat up and pounced on him, straddling his stomach. I connected my lips with his as he ran his hands along my sides. He eventually switched positions to where he was on top. He kissed along my jawline and down my neck. My eyes opened a tad and I saw the all-too-familiar blue eyed pup. I began laughing as Apollo was just staring at us making out on the couch.

"What?" Eddie heavily breathed. I turned my head towards Apollo and Eddie laughed, too. "What are you looking at?" The dog inched closer to us and rested his head on my boob, looking at the both of us. "Hey, that's mine." Eddie whined, tapping him on the nose.

I raised an eyebrow at the boy. "Um, I think it's mine."

"But you're mine, therefore it's my boob, too. By the transitive property, right?" he smiled.

"I don't think so." I said, slapping him lightly on the cheek.

"Alright, Bridget." he laughed.

"Who's Bridget?" I asked, "She a side chick?"

"If I'm gonna tell you the story, I have to call Gareth." he said, climbing off of me. I watched as he walked to the kitchen and grabbed his phone from the counter. With a few swipes, I heard the speaker and the ring of a phone. Eddie sat down beside me again and set his phone on the table.

"Hello?"

"Gareth," Eddie greeted.

"What's up?"

"Did you want to tell Audy about the other day?"

"What happened the other- oh hell yeah. She on?"

I picked the phone up from the table and brought it closer to my ear.

"Gareth?" I answered.

"Hey, Audy. How've you been?" he asked.

"Great, you?"

"Good," he answered.

"Fabulous. Now, what's this story?" I questioned, glancing at Eddie. "I'm intrigued."

"Alright," Gareth started, "so Eddie and I decided to go to the mall because he wanted to find me a girlfriend-"

"Aw! Did you find him one?" I asked Eddie.

"Just wait. Okay, so, Eddie was pointing out different girls but none of them were any good. Suddenly, this group of three girls were walking towards us, aight? One was super fucking hot."

"How hot?" I asked, jokingly.

"Smokin' hot, Luna. Anyway, I wanted to have Eddie work on his wingman skills-"

"You liar. You didn't have the balls to go up and talk to her so I had to help your ass out." Eddie shouted.

"Alright, alright. So Eddie went up to talk to Bridget──that's her name by the way──to try to get her to like me. Instead the chick starts to hit on your lover boy."

"What?" I questioned, looking at Eddie.

"Just listen. So she starts flirting with Eddie, even after he told her about you. Your incredibly loyal and sweet boyfriend pushed her away and denied her. It really pissed her off, oh my god. Since Eddie said no, the bitch said she'd take me, but of course Eddie said no. He even told her her to go to the hardware store across the street because she was a hoe."

"You called her a hoe for me? Though I'm not a fan of derogatory comments towards women, I'll let it slide since you were just thinking of me." I smiled, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"I didn't even call her that." Eddie retorted.

"It was something like that. You were at least thinking it."

"Well I didn't want to say it,"

"Alright, alright, now I'm proud of you-"

"Then she slapped him." Gareth interrupted.

"What?!" I shrieked/laughed, "She did what?"

"I got bitch slapped." Eddie chuckled.

"If I was fricken there- ooh, she'd be dead─"

"I bet, considering your little self just said 'fricken'."

"Fuck you! He's mine!" I fumed.

"And you're mine." Eddie smiled, pulling me closer to him.

"You guys aren't gonna have sex while you're still on the phone, right?" Gareth asked.

"No, Gareth." I said. "Did you ever find a girl to talk to?"

"Oh, yeah. So Bridget and one of the other girls walked away, but one girl stayed behind and said she was done with Bridget's shitty personality. Apparently she thought I was cute because I saw her look over and blush. Eddie brought her over to me and let us walk around together. I think we really hit it off. Her name's May."

"Are you gonna hang out more?" I asked.

"I sure hope so. We've been texting a good bit. I'm taking her out again tomorrow."

"That's precious. I'm gonna have to meet her."

"That's what I'm hoping for. Bridget and Sasha were apparently her only 'friends' and I was hoping she could befriend a group like you. She's new in town and hardly knows anyone. She'll be a senior."

"That's nice!" I said.

"Great. Hey, I gotta go so I'll talk to you two later. Use protection."

"Fuck you." Eddie hissed.

"Bye, Gareth." I said, hanging up. I gave Eddie his phone back and looked at Apollo, who seemed down. "What's wrong, boy? Wanna go for a walk?"

Eddie jumped off the couch and ran to the front door. Apollo chasing after him. I snatched my phone from the kitchen and walked over to where the two were waiting impatiently

"Alright, c'mon," Eddie said, grabbing the leash.

"He doesn't need the leash."

"I know. It's for you." he said, hooking it to the hood of the hoodie. "Kinky."

I glared at him as he laughed. "I'm kidding. I'm kidding." he said, unhooking it.

I opened the door and walked outside, Apollo running out right after. I got an unfamiliar breeze in a particular part of my body, which didn't feel too swell. I looked down and realize that I never put pants on. I turned around to look at my smirking boyfriend leaning against the door frame.

"When exactly were you gonna remind me that I wasn't wearing pants?" I asked.

"I thought I'd let you figure that out on your own." he shrugged.

After I fixed my wardrobe mishap, we walked a few good blocks around the neighborhood. Apollo was having a blast.

"Sleep at my house. I get lonely." I begged, twirling around on the sidewalk.

"Why your house? Maybe I wanted you to sleep over at my house." he said.

"I'll sleep over your house next time."

"And when will that be?"

"Let's make it a surprise." I said, pulling out my phone and clicking on the calendar. I swiped around and moved my phone in all different directions, finally tapping a date. "That will be September 30."

Eddie stopped in his tracks and stared at me. "Really?"

"Are you busy that day? Maybe that's too soon." I joked. "Here, is June 21 too far away?"

"It is, but I guess I could handle the anticipation." he shrugged.

"We're so weird." I giggled.

Eddie picked me up and spun me around. "What's wrong with being weird?" he laughed.

We walked back to my house, seeing that my dad and gramma weren't home yet. We were left alone for a bit longer.

"Whatcha wanna do?" Eddie asked.

"I'm hungry." I admit. "And we have like no food."

"We could order pizza? Or I could take you to that tiny diner downtown." Eddie suggested.

"Doesn't matter, really. You pick. It's your money."

"Oh, so I'm paying? When did I agree to this?"

"You're the guy in this relationship."

"That is so sexist, Luna Goodman."

"I'm kidding! I'll pay!"

"Psh, Luna, that'd make me look like a terrible boyfriend."

"You are so complicated."

"You love me." Eddie sang. "C'mon, I'm taking you to the diner."

"Why couldn't we decide this earlier? Now we have to walk all the way there again. We just got back." I complained.

"You're just lazy."

"You just like seeing me miserable. Exercise is easy for you! You're like an eight foot giant that takes two steps in any direction and he's at his destination!"

"Calm down, shortstop!"

"I am not short!"

"Compared to me you are."

"Everyone's short compared to you, jackass."

"Do you want me to pay for your food or not?" he chuckled, crossing his arms.

"Okay, okay, I'll bicker after you buy my food."

"That's not what I meant."

"Too late," I smiled, pulling him out the door.

***

"I can't believe my eighteen-year-old girlfriend got chicken fingers."

"Shut up, Eddie." I whined, pushing him. "They're really good!"

"Whatever you say. What kind of movie?" Eddie asked, clicking through Netflix on my television.

"A classic one," I said, "not a scary one. I swear we watched all of them. Ooh, a Disney one."

"I'm not watching a princess movie." Eddie said, shaking his head.

"Why not?" I whined, "You're my prince."

"Nice try. Maybe another night. How about that one?"

"Play it," I shrugged, turning the light beside the couch off. It was silent as we watched the beginning of the movie, but we got a little bored, causing us to get sleepy. It was only six-thirty. A nice nap wouldn't hurt. I looked over at Eddie whose eyes were closed and he was lightly snoring. I snuggled up next to him, careful not to wake him. I mean, at least he's been sleeping.

***

There was a shift in the couch, waking me up. I glanced towards Eddie sitting over the edge, gripping the cushion and breathing heavily.

"Eddie?"

He turned his head to the side. "Did I wake you? I'm sorry."

"What's wrong?" I asked, crawling over to him.

"Nothing." he stuttered.

"Eddie," I scolded, "don't lie to me, please?"

"I just- I don't feel well."

"Look at me." I told him. He put a leg back on the couch so he could comfortably turn towards me. I turned the lamp on and observed him. Eddie had beads of sweat along his forehead and his whole face looked flushed.

"Wait here," I said, jumping off the couch. I grabbed a washcloth from the kitchen and ran it under cold water. "Are you getting sick?" I asked, dabbing the cloth on his face.

"I don't think so?" he answered, completely unsure. "It's summer, how could I get sick?"

"It's possible, ya know." I said. "Are you hot?"

"I mean, I am a little hot, but don't bother." he mumbled. "I should probably get going anyway."

"Eddie please," I begged, putting my head on his shoulder, "what's going on?"

"I-I kinda had another n-nightmare." he softly spoke, rubbing the back of his neck.

"What was it about?" I asked.

"I don't even know. Some guy was chasing me. That's basically it." he said. "Don't worry about it. It's nothing."..........................................................A/N: The setting of this story is the summer in 2017. Just letting you guys know. So keep in mind, Eddie is 18 in this story. The book will pick up in the next chapter 😏 I don't know when I'll post it tho
