Our Coronation

EDMUND'S POV
Tomorrow we were going to be crowned kings and queens of Narnia and I was panicking. I paced my tent, thinking about how I betrayed everyone and there was no way I deserved to be king. A week ago I would've accepted the spot of King without hesitation, just to be better than Peter. But now I doubted my ability to govern the people I had helped hurt, and it was eating me up.
"Edmund!" Y/n called and stepped into the tent.
I stopped mid-pace and looked at her, she wore a forest green dress and a red cloak that swayed behind her when she entered.
"Hey, Y/n," I greeted and continued to pace.
She frowned and walked over to sit on my hammock, "What's going on in that brain of yours?"
I sighed, "It's nothing, don't worry about it."
"Well you're worrying so I am too." She stubbornly laid back on my pillow and stared at the ceiling.
Realizing she wasn't going to give up I huffed and fell onto Peter's hammock, "I just don't think I should help rule Narnia. I've made so many mistakes already and I've only been here for a couple of days!"
She sat up abruptly and faced me, "I can't believe you're saying that! Even though you sided with the Witch at first you came back to us and you fought for Aslan. You were a key part in winning the battle and showed real leadership, the Narnians trust you to rule. I know I do."
"You shouldn't trust me, not after what I've done," I whispered.
"Don't forget I came to the Witch's castle with you, I'm guilty too. But we're both on the right side now, and we both care about the fate of Narnia and everyone in it, right?"
I nodded. "Then that settles it." She stood up and sat next to me on Peter's hammock, "You're not a bad person, Edmund."
"How can you know for sure?"
"Because you're worried about being one." She smiled.
Those few words seemed to melt my worries away and a weight lifted off of my chest. For the first time in a while, I felt like I was enough. I smiled at her before abruptly yanking her into a hug, burrowing my face into her shoulder, and trying my best not to let the tears fall out. Y/n chuckled and hugged back, rubbing small circles onto my back comfortingly.
After a moment of silence she giggled, "You know, I originally came here to tell you that the feast had started,"
"What?!" I quickly pulled back, "You mean they're eating without me?! They're going to eat everything before I can!"
"You and your food," She laughed and stood up, "Well, let's go!"
I quickly grabbed my cloak and we ran out of the tent. Halfway there I stopped and turned to her, "Hey, Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
I grinned, "Thanks for being there for me through everything."
"What are friends for?" She playfully elbowed me and sprinted down the hill, "Now, hurry! We're gonna miss dinner!"
Not wanting to waste another second, I raced Y/n the rest of the way.

Y/N'S POV
Standing in my new bedroom in Cair Paravel, I admired my reflection in the mirror. My shiny red dress fell down to the floor, even in my short heels. Around the neckline, sleeves, and waist there were beautiful hand-stitched white designs made up of leaves and vines with ribbon-like lines weaving through them, resembling my magic. A matching cape clasped around my neckline and trailed past my feet, shimmering at the slightest movement. I swished the fabric around and smiled giddily, feeling like a princess from one of my books. I quickly let go of the dress when someone knocked on my door.
"Y/n, it's me!" Susan called through the oak door.
"Come in!"
"I brought the curlers- oh! You look stunning!" She walked over to me and I took in her appearance.
She wore an identical dress, only silver fabric instead of red and with blue embroidery around her neckline that resembled oak leaves. The silver melted into a gorgeous blue at her sleeves as well as her cape which was noticeably shorter than mine, only reaching the floor. She had also twisted her hair back on both sides and pulled it into an intricate ponytail.
"Have you looked in the mirror?" I squealed, "Lords will be falling at your feet for sure!"
She laughed and pulled me over to the vanity, "Thank you, but right now let's focus on your hair."
Susan set down her bundle of curlers and got to work taming my hair. Shushing me as I winced and groaned, she pulled and curled my hair expertly, rolling my hair on top of my head to form the ringlets. I had recently taken a shower so that my hair would be damp enough to set the curls, but it still took a while to air dry so we spent five minutes fanning my head. Would not recommend such an activity, it kills your wrists. After my hair was completely dry, Susan carefully unrolled the curlers and let my hair fall down my shoulders, bouncing slightly. Not even close to done, she gathered all of my hair to the back of my head in a low bun, save for the few face-framing bits in the front. Pinning the knot in place, she fluffed it up before sticking a few flowers in and dusting her hands off.
"All done!" She said triumphantly.
I admired the beautiful styling, "Thank you so much, Susan!"
"Of course. Now, let's go meet the others, we're a bit late."
We hustled out of my room and waved to the guards as we ran past them in the hall, almost barreling into Lucy as she walked out of her room.
"You guys are late too?" She laughed. She wore a white dress with very little decoration as well as a red cape and had her short hair in bouncy curls.
"Yes, now come on!" Susan grabbed her hand and sprinted down the castle corridor while I followed closely behind, hiking up my dress so I didn't trip on it.
We rounded a corner and down a set of stairs before Edmund popped out from another hall. Susan and Lucy had already passed him before he stepped out so I tumbled right into him without warning. We fell to the floor and I landed on top of him, managing to brace myself with my arms so I didn't completely squash him.
"Ah, sorry Ed," I chuckled and scrambled up, reaching a hand down to pull him up.
He brushed off his clothes once he got up, "Don't worry about it, Y/n."
I looked him up and down, taking in his coronation ensemble. He wore tight white pants under a shiny gray tunic with white designs and dark blue sleeves. A silver cape hung down from his shoulders and was held together by a lion clasp just like mine. The cut complemented his slender figure and made him look taller and more regal. I looked up to his face just as he did the same, realizing we were both staring at each other. I broke eye contact before it got awkward and focused on his hair which he combed back neatly, and decided I needed to fix it.
I grinned and reached up to tussle his hair back into its normal messy state, "Much better!"
"Hey!" He protested, "I spent fifteen minutes on that."
I laughed and grabbed his arm to pull him towards Susan and Lucy who were waiting for us at the end of the hallway. "Oh come on, it looks better this way."
"That's what I told Peter!" He linked his arm in mine as we walked, "But he insisted it was too messy for such an important event."
We chuckled and caught up with the girls before walking together into the room we were told to meet Aslan in before the ceremony. Peter was already inside, standing next to Aslan in the center of the room in his coronation outfit. The colors practically screamed "High King", it was a bit obnoxious, I definitely preferred Edmund's outfit over Peter's. He wore a dark blue tunic embellished with gold and paired with tan pants that were very similar to Edmund's. He had an identical cape only slightly larger and gold. Unlike Edmund's outfit though, Peter's sleeves were much poofier and made him look a lot more muscular.
"Where have you been?" He asked, clearly frustrated at our tardiness.
"Walking," Edmund replied, "This castle is huge, it takes a while to get from one place to another."
Peter chuckled and nodded before trumpets sounded around the corner, signaling the start of the ceremony. "It is time, children." Aslan smiled. "Y/n, climb onto my back."
I raised my eyebrows at the request but nevertheless I detached from Edmund and climbed onto Aslan, centering my dress and cape on his back. Peter stood on Aslan's left with Edmund next to him, and Susan stood Aslan's right with Lucy on her right as we walked around the corner and into the throne room. I sucked in a breath at the sight of the room, centaurs lined either side of the walkway with their swords raised above our heads, some playing the procession music on trumpets and horns as we walked. Ahead of us, a beautiful stained glass window took up the entire wall behind five thrones, allowing golden light to shine into the room and illuminating the rows of Narnians watching from behind the centaurs. As we passed, the centaurs raised their swords higher before holding them to their chest, and I recognized Oreius standing at the end of the line. I grinned at him and he nodded in respect, though I could see the smile spreading across his face.
Aslan and the others stopped in front of the steps leading up to the thrones and Aslan gently motioned for me to get down. Somehow, I managed to gracefully dismount the lion and stand in between Edmund and Peter before the five of us walked up the steps to stand in front of our designated thrones. The head of each throne had a symbol unique to each of us, Edmund's had a sword and shield, mine had panpipes, Peter's had his signature sword, Susan's had her horn, and Lucy's had the bottle of fire flower juice.
Aslan's clear voice rang through the room, "To the glistening Eastern Sea, I give you Queen Lucy the Valiant."
I grinned and watched the Beavers waddle up the steps carrying pillows with the crowns on them, Mr. Tumnus clopping behind them. The stopped near Lucy and Mr. Tumnus bent down to carefully pick up a leafy crown made of silver. He made his way to Lucy who rested on one knee so he could place the crown upon her head. Once he did, she straightened up and beamed at him and he quickly returned it with a smile of his own before making his way over to Edmund.
"To the great Western Wood, King Edmund the Just."
Mr. Tumnus placed a silver crown also decorated with silver leaves on his head and Edmund stood up, smiling broadly. He turned to me and I gave him a wide smile before turning to my left once again.
"To the radiant Southern Sun," Mr. Tumnus picked up a flowery golden crown, "Queen Susan, the Gentle."
She gracefully rose from her kneeling position and smiled at Mr. Tumnus. He began to make his way over to me and I gently kneeled on the ground as the others had done. I watched him select a crown made of leaves and vines of gold and silver before carefully moving to place it on my head.
"To the warm Summer Winds, Queen Y/n the Compassionate."
I stood up as gracefully as I could and grinned at Mr. Tumnus as he left me to retrieve the last crown. This one was made of thick gold carved with intricate designs and a few golden leaves and seemed to weigh a lot more than mine when he placed it on Peter's head.
"And to the clear Northern Sky, I give you King Peter, the Magnificent."
Peter rose to stand with newfound regality and gazed across the room with his head held high. Once Mr. Tumnus and the Beavers had moved to the side, the five of us lifted our capes slightly to sit on our thrones.
"Once a King or Queen of Narnia," Aslan turned to us, "Always a King or Queen. May your wisdom grace us until the stars rain down from the heavens."
Turning back to the crowd, Aslan led them in a cheer, "Long live King Peter! Long live King Edmund!"
Edmund turned to flash me a gleeful smile and I eagerly returned it, "Long live Queen Y/n! Long live Queen Susan! Long live Queen Lucy!"
The room erupted into cheers and various animal noises as the Narnians celebrated the long-awaited arrival of their rightful kings and queens.

EDMUND'S POV
"I can't believe you," I scoffed at Y/n. She was making her way back over to our corner with an armful of desserts.
"You're going to eat most of them anyway," She countered. I shrugged and plucked a brownie from her collection.
We watched the party from the side, for now, trying to calm ourselves down after just being crowned kings and queens. The crowd of Narnians had spread around the room and were enjoying the festive music and delicious food while talking amongst each other. At first, many different people came to talk to us and congratulate us on our coronation but now they were almost completely ignoring Y/n and I. Technically, that is mostly our fault since we were hiding in a corner. On the other hand, Peter and Susan were milling about, talking to our subjects and enjoying the new environment while Lucy danced with a couple of fauns at the other half of the room by the music. I suddenly had the idea to get payback for what Y/n did to me the other day and grabbed her arm, pulling her towards the dance and making her drop her desserts.
"What are you-"
"Dancing!" I shouted over the music.
She immediately smiled and let me pull her along until we reached the circle of dancers. I unclasped my cape and slung it over a nearby railing, Y/n quickly following my lead. Before I could protest, she moved to the opposite side of the circle and smiled at me above the heads of the fauns before merging with the inner circle. I smirked and jumped into the outer circle, grabbing hold of Lucy's hand next to me while we skipped around.
"Edmund!" She cried in surprise.
"Hello," I playfully smiled then faced the inner circle to catch a glimpse of Y/n skipping with the fauns.
Lucy grinned, "Y/n got you to dance again!"
"Actually, it was me who got her to dance this time."
We stepped forward to link arms with a dancer from the inner circle and spin around, this time I got paired with a dwarf so I had to bend down. Lucy laughed at my struggle as she spun with Mr. Tumnus, her white dress shimmering as she moved. We let go of our partners to skip to the other side of the circle and grab the next partner, mine just so happened to be Y/n.
Without saying anything, she linked her arm in mine and we spun around once before switching arms and spinning the opposite way. After the second spin, I was flung to the inner circle and rotated right while joining the others' left hands in the center and letting our right hands fly in the air. I looked over to Y/n who was spinning left in the outer circle while holding hands with two fauns and smiling broadly.
In sync with the other fauns in my circle, we faced out and walked under the arms of the people in the outer circle who were moving in. Immediately finding another partner I skipped with them around the circle, keeping an eye on Y/n who was skipping with Lucy in my direction. At the last moment, everyone spun out to link with another partner, and I joined hands with Y/n. The music came to a halt and the crowd cheered while I gasped for air.
"That was great!" Y/n panted, neither of us realizing we were still holding hands.
I grinned just as Lucy ran up to us, "You guys were amazing! You're like the dancing duo, everyone was staring at you."
Y/n laughed and we pulled apart, "Or maybe they're staring because we're royalty." I said.
"Speaking of, I'm surprised our crowns didn't fall off during the dance."
"Magic~" Y/n wiggled her fingers like you would when telling a ghost story.
Peter and Susan walked up to us, "You used your magic to secure your crown?" Peter questioned.
"No, although that's a pretty good idea."
Susan laughed and started to make her way to the table with piles of food, "Come on, I doubt any of you have had any real dinner."
"I saw Edmund and Y/n sneak a heap of desserts earlier," Peter smirked.
"Tattletale." I elbowed him.
-This took me four hours bro. I know I'm horrible at describing the dance scenes but I feel like it's a cute thing for them to do together as their "thing". The next chapter will be shorter than this but still the same day and almost the same time. Thanks for reading!-
