Emma Gilbert is the youngest of three, after her oldest brother and sister Elena and Jeremy. In a recent unfortunate event, Miranda and Grayson Gilbert, the parents of the Gilbert siblings, passed away in a car accident, leaving the three orphans. Emma was sent away to live with their uncle John while Elena and Jeremy stayed home under the care of their aunt Jenna.

After four months, Emma decided to return home where she belonged, only she didn't know what had was in stored for her. The idea of vampires, witches, and werewolves being real was a foreign concept to the fourteen year old since they were myths and stories. . . right?
