We burn down a coffee shop
20:51, 11 May 2024It was fine.
We just walking around, none of us having a clue to where we were supposed to be or search when suddenly Allora spotted a coffee shop. I didn't really want to give her any more energy, but both me and True needed some sort of energy boost.
Nico and I mumbled our orders while my cousin talked at super speed. True was the only somewhat normal one with us.
Nico and I sat together, trying not to look at each other. The coffee shop was small and only had two tables, which were on opposite sides of the room. So True and Allora sat on one side while we sat on at the other.
Not much happened, but I was still tense. I could feel the difference between us Greeks and Romans. It was only a matter of time before one of them figured it out too. Though Nico seemed like he sensed something off about me, but he didn't say anything.
The barista called our order, and I went up to retrieve it. My father had given me some human cash, and Agwe had found some drachmas. So of course, I had to pay most of the time, since I had most of the money.
I sipped from my caramel frappe and took a bite from my birthday cake pop. I'd gotten a frappe, cake pop, and a bagel. Nico had gotten the same thing, except his was a chocolate frappe.
True had a cinnamon pretzel and a cappuccino, while Allora got a double chocolate muffin, two cake pops, and an espresso with extra shots. I didn't even want to try and imagine how much energy she would have.
A woman with a chihuahua walked into the shop and looked at the four of us, making me uneasy. Nico and True noticed it, too, judging by how tense they'd suddenly become. But Allora was just contently eating her cake pops.
The woman talked to her chihuahua and didn't look too interested in ordering anything, which waved a red flag for me. All she did was talk to her chihuahua and look at us. After a few minutes she walked over to True and Allora's table and talked to them. Me and Nico probably looked a bit threatening with our glares, dark clothes, plus the knives I was cleaning.
I took a final bite out of my cake pop and twirled one of the knives around my finger. Nico watched me closely and I realized that my knives were Imperial gold. Greeks didn't use Imperial gold. (A/N what do Greeks use???)
Suddenly the woman's chihuahua changed. It started growing bigger and bigger. The workers screamed and ran out the exit, while True jumped to her feet and grabbed her bow. Allora uncapped her water bottle and water flowed out.
Nico and I jumped to our feet at the same time, and he grabbed the butter knife, which wouldn't do much. I wasn't sure if Roman weapons worked on Greek monsters, and I didn't want to test it out in a situation where we could all die. So, I grabbed the other butter knife and go ready to fight.
True shot an arrow at the chimera and two at the woman. The chimera charged her, though it didn't have much room to travel, since the coffee shop was pretty small. It leaped on her, and she let out a strangled yelp as it swiped her.
Allora shot a blast of water at the chimera's eyes while nibbling on her muffin. The chimera stumbled back and tried to get the water out of its face, without much luck.
Nico flung his butter knife at the chimera, and I did the same, though they just bounced off and made the chimera turn on us, growling. I pushed Nico out of the way as it jumped and tackled me. Its claws dug into my sides and neck and dug deep into my cheek.
I grunted and tried my best not to scream. The table and chairs flipped over as the chimera growled at me. Then three arrows shot at it, and it turned into dust. Nico crawled over to me and grimaced when he saw how bloody I was.
"Get me a water bottle," I gritted out, trying not to give into the pain.
His brows creased together. "What?"
"Just do it," I pleaded.
After a second of hesitation, he hurried off and retrieved a bottle of water, opening it and reluctantly pouring it on my wounds. The water sent relief flooding through my body and soon all my wounds were healed.
Nico's eyes widened. "How-"
"I'll tell you later," I told him. "I promise. But not right now."
Allora came over to us, sipping her espresso and not looking at all like someone who had just fought a monster. True was sitting half on her seat and carefully eating some squared substance from a Ziplock bag.
"Ambrosia," she said. "Everyone okay?"
We all nodded, and Allora went to the back of the shop to see if there was any more coffee. I sat down next to Nico when five seconds later Allora came back running.
"Everyone get out!" She yelled.
I guess we all must have known Allora pretty well, or it was the tone of her voice, either way we all bolted out of the coffee shop.
Right when we all got onto the street outside the shop burst into the flames. My jaw dropped and I stared at my cousin in disbelief. In under ten seconds she'd managed to explode a coffee shop.
True packed the ambrosia back into her knapsack and started walking, not even waiting for the rest of us. Nico and I exchanged a look before following, but I made sure my troublemaker cousin was in front of me so I could keep an eye on her.
