Chapter 2
20:44, 22 February 2022At the weekend, Peter and Ned were in the city, having a very important day buying the newly released Lego Millenium Falcon set. They'd been saving up to get it for a few months ever since the first advert came out, and now here they were, Peter carrying it under one arm as they headed to the coffee shop for a refuel.
They sat at a table in the window, looking over the box, the descriptions, excitedly chattering away as they sipped their coffees.
Then Peter looked out of the window and something caught his eye. He squinted a little, making sure he was actually seeing what he thought he was seeing. He was right. His eyes widened.
"Dude.." He said to Ned, slapping his friend on the arm. "Dude!"
"What?" Ned scoffed. Peter pointed out the window. "It's a street."
"No, look on the bench, there!" Peter grabbed his friend's face and directed it towards the bench across the street.
"Oh, ohhh..." Ned said as his eyes focused on the target.
Adam, Luka's boyfriend, was sitting on the bench, next to a girl with his arm over the back of the bench. They were chatting and laughing.
Having too much of a good time, in Peter's opinion.
He found himself getting his phone out of his pocket, and calling you. After a few rings, you picked up.
"Hey Parker, how's it going?" You said on the other end.
"Hey, I... good. Listen, are you..." He paused, thinking how to word this. "What are you up to today?"
"Oh I'm visiting my mum and dad today. Yeah figured I'd come see them, get some dog pets in." You replied, and he could hear the smile in your voice. It made him want to smile. He saw Ned looking at him in confusion. "What about you?"
"I..uh...just hanging out with Ned. So uh, you and Adam are visiting your parents, that seems like a nice-"
"Oh, no, Adam had to work again so it's just me." You laughed into the phone, and a chill ran through Peter as he looked back out of the window at Adam, who was definitely not working by the look of it. "I'm hopefully seeing him after I get back tonight so I can pop by yours if you want?"
"Uh...yeah, yeah that'll be good. I'll see you later?"
"See you later Parker!" You said happily as you hung up. Peter took the phone away from his ear, still staring at Adam, who was now leaning closer to the girl and smiling.
"What did she say?" Ned asked.
"She...Adam's working and she's at her parents."
They both looked out the window.
"He's not working."
"Yeah, I got that Ned. So he's lying to her?"
"Well...unless that's a work..lunch?" Ned offered, just as the girl giggled and put her hand on Adam's chest. "Maybe not. What are we gonna do?"
Peter breathed in as he thought. If this was Adam...if he was cheating on you, then he needed to tell you. He was definitely lying to you. But looking at him and this girl on the bench, Peter wasn't sure if it was enough to prove he was cheating.
Either way, you had a right to know that Adam was being a dickhead.
Peter held up his phone, and snapped a few pictures of the two on the bench. He looked back through them to check that Adam's face was visible. Then he ran his hand through his hair.
"I gotta tell her. He's lying to her." Peter sighed.
"Yeah. Yeah..." Ned nodded, looking back out the window. "What are you gonna say?" Peter frowned at him. "Well, yeah, he's lying. But he might have finished early. Or that is someone from work and they're just grabbing a coffee?"
"He works over in Richmond Hills, so what, he drove 20 minutes for coffee when there's probably three on the same block as his office? No," Peter shook his head. "I think he's lying about having to work today. And if he lied about working today, what about all the other times? I dunno what I'm gonna say, but she's got a right to know."
"When are you gonna tell her?"
"She said she'll come over later. I guess I'll tell her then...I can't exactly keep it to myself."
Peter had been trying to focus on the TV, but every minute, he was checking his phone to see if you'd messaged him about coming over. He'd been sitting with this information about Adam all day, and he just wanted to tell you. It's not like he was hoping that you would break up, but if you did...he wouldn't be opposed. He was more worried about the fact that you would be heartbroken when he told you that your boyfriend was being a piece of shit.
Chill out Peter.
He rolled his shoulders, his leg jiggling as he checked his phone again. He let his head fall back onto the sofa.
Half an hour later, you finally texted him that Adam had got out of work early, and you were heading into town with him so wouldn't be able to come over. He fired back a quick 'No problem!' reply, but he was disappointed. He partly wanted to see you, and partly just wanted to get this thing off his chest and let whatever was destined to happen, happen.
Seems as though it'll have to wait until tomorrow now.
Peter jumped up, heading to his closet for his suit. If he wasn't seeing you, he might as well do some patrolling.
The next morning, Peter stumbled through the apartment towards the door, groaning in annoyance at whoever was knocking on his door. He ripped it open, ready to growl at them, when his entire mood changed in a split second.
"L-Luka?" He blinked. "Are..you...what are you doing here?"
"I thought I'd bring you breakfast. Cos I couldn't come round last night." You smiled, holding up a carrier bag of food. "Is that okay?"
"Yeah, obviously. I'll just...come on in." He stammered, stepping to the side and watching you walk into the kitchen.
"I've got this if you want to get dressed or anything." You teased, looking down at him only in his boxers. He looked down at himself and only seemed to realise that he was half naked in that second, and immediately blushed and tried to cover himself by crossing his arms.
"Yeah, yeah I will go and do that. Right now." He nodded before rushing off to his room. You laughed as you watched him leave, the muscles in his back tensing as he moved. You started warming up the croissants and cutting up some fruit, plating it up and putting them on the coffee table as Peter came back in, now wearing a loose Tshirt and sweat-shorts.
"Nice to see you wearing clothes." You smirked as you gestured for him to join you on the sofa. He gave a weak smile and sat next to you, taking his croissant and having a bite.
"Sorry, I wasn't expecting anyone over this early."
"It's 10am." You laughed.
"I...had a late night." He shrugged, taking another bite of his croissant. "Figured you'd be hungover or something as well, didn't you go out last night?"
"Hmm!" You nodded as you chewed your croissant. "Yeah, it was really good. I only had a few drinks though." You popped an apple chunk in your mouth. "You've been doing a lot of late nights."
"Yeah, well, it's kind of, odd hours." He coughed. "Like whenever Stark needs me."
"Right. I mean, there's worse jobs to have than working in tech with Stark right?" You smiled, and he nodded at you while looking at his food.
You didn't know that he was Spiderman, just like most of the rest of the world, which he was usually fine with. But he particularly didn't like being able to tell you.
"I also do have something to ask you." You said, and he looked up at you. "Yesterday, when you called me. Was something else up?"
"What, uhh, what do you mean?" He asked in a slight panic.
"Just, it seems like it could have been a text. You're more of a text person. I was wondering if there was a reason for calling me instead?"
"Nope, no, I was just seeing how you were doing."
"Which could have been a text." You pointed out.
"I...yeah I guess." He sighed, putting his croissant down. Better now than never right? "There was something. That I wanted to tell you."
"Okay. What is it?"
"Uhh," He ran his hand through his hair, and you watched the curls rustle through his fingers. "How is Adam?"
"He's fine." You frowned.
"Good. Great. Um..."
"Peter what is it?" You asked, the concern evident in your voice. He sighed again, and got his phone out of his pocket. He tapped it on his palm a couple of times.
"Okay, so me and Ned were in town yesterday-"
"Oh, did you get the Falcon set?!"
"Yeah, we did. But that's not the point," He shook his head, opening his phone and getting his gallery up. "While we were there we...well I saw, umm..."
"Peter, use your words."
"Just...look." He muttered, handing you his phone. You looked at the picture.
"Is this a pigeon?"
"What?" He took the phone from you. "Uh, sorry. It just, it looked like he was wearing a monocle because of the feathers, that's not..." He muttered to himself as he swiped through the photos until he found the ones of Adam. "Okay this." He passed the phone back to you and your eyebrows knotted together as you looked at it.
"Is this Adam?" You asked, and Peter nodded. "Okay. Um, thank you?"
"No, Luka you don't-" He cut himself off to breathe in. "I took this yesterday. Yesterday morning."
"Right."
"When you said that Adam was apparently working."
"Oookay." You looked at the picture again. "He probably took a break to get coffee." You shrugged.
"No this was in..Luka." Peter scooted forward and took the phone out of your hands. Then he took a deep breath in. "I think Adam was cheating on you."
