A BITTER LIFE 💚 ❤️

PART

Eros immediately carried the unconscious Gu Wei to his room, carefully laying him down on the bed. After checking that he still had a pulse, Yibo quickly grabbed his phone to call the director of his hospital.

“Come to my house right now,” he ordered, not even giving the person on the other end a chance to speak. As soon as he hung up, he summoned his bodyguards and instructed them to fetch Liying from the mental hospital.

“What if they don’t allow it, sir?” one of the bodyguards asked hesitantly.

“Tell them it’s an order from the owner of A-yuan's Private Hospital,” Yibo replied firmly.

“Understood, sir,” they said before heading out. Once they left, Eros returned inside, and seeing that Gu Wei was still unconscious, he called the hospital director again.

“I’m outside your house,” the director said before Eros could say anything. Eros quickly ended the call and left the room to meet him.

“Good thing I woke up early,” the director muttered to himself. As he entered Yibo’s house, he put on his name tag so Yibo could immediately recognize him.

Meanwhile, Liying’s name was trending again, worrying the company’s shareholders. Since Jiyang was now the company’s new CEO, he arrived early to resolve the issue that they are also responsible.

Elsewhere, Mianmian sighed deeply as the private plane they were on landed near where Yibo was. They were grateful that Yibo owned a private plane, which they could use during emergencies.

Jili unlocked his phone and was greeted by a voice recording from Yibo. He immediately played it, and he and Mianmian exchanged confused glances.

“What does he mean by that?” Mianmian asked.

“I’ll find out soon. For now, I’m heading to the hotel to deal with it. Where are you going?” Jili asked.

“I’m going to the hospital first, then I’ll head to Yibo’s house,” Mianmian replied as she set down her luggage, including her hand-carry bag containing Yibo’s records.

Once they got off the plane, Jili and Mianmian parted ways, each heading in a different direction.

Back to Eros’s house. “Cho Seung-youn,” Yibo called out.

“What happened? You look so pale,” Youn asked, concerned. But instead of answering, Eros told him to come inside. Youn’s eyes widened as he saw the man lying on the bed. He glanced back at Yibo, as if asking whether he was seeing things correctly.

“Say something, you act like you don’t know what situation I’m in,” Eros said, noticing that Youn was standing there silently, not moving.

“If you want to ask questions, do it later. Check on him first,” Eros added quickly. Youn didn’t say a word and immediately went to check Gu Wei’s pulse, performing a few more tests.

Meanwhile, after Mianmian finished speaking with the doctor, she headed straight to Yibo’s house. Jili, on the other hand, was struggling to get the footage from the hotel where the banquet had been held, leaving him no choice but to hack into the hotel's CCTV system.

When he finally accessed the footage, he raised an eyebrow as a familiar face appeared on the screen.

“Wait, I’ve seen this face before,” he said. To confirm his suspicions, he grabbed his phone and called Yibo. He was surprised when Yibo answered after just one ring.

“Hello, Yibo. I’ve just arrived at the hotel. They wouldn’t give me the footage, so I had to find another way,” Jili explained. Yibo nodded in response, as if Jili could see him through the phone.

“And about what you mentioned earlier—are you talking about the guy you spoke to before you left?”

“Yes,” Yibo replied.

“That’s why he looked familiar,” Jili muttered. “Oh, and Liying’s also in this clip,” Jili added, causing Yibo’s eyebrow to raise.

“I’ll explain everything when I get there. I’m on my way,” Jili said before hanging up. A few minutes later, Yibo stood up as the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it,” Youn offered. Before leaving, he asked, “Where are your helpers?”

Youn was confused when he saw no one outside. “They’re probably resting. They went to bed late,” Yibo replied.

“Okay,” Youn said before heading out.

As Youn stepped out, Yibo sat beside Gu Wei, holding his hand gently. "I'm sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be going through all of this," Yibo said softly, pressing a kiss to Gu Wei's hand. "I promise you, I’ll dedicate the remaining months of my life to making whoever did this to you pay," he vowed, kissing Gu Wei's hand again, tears rolling down his cheeks.

Youn and Mianmian were about to enter, but they stopped in their tracks when they heard what Yibo said. "Forgive me for all the mistakes I've made. Zhan, if I asked you to make memories with me in the little time I have left, would you agree?" Just then, the door burst open, revealing an enraged Mianmian.

"Are you stupid?" she snapped immediately. "We still have plenty of time. Why can’t you hold on to that?" Mianmian said, not caring about the unconscious Gu Wei in the room. "What is it? Are you losing hope just because he's marrying someone else? What about your child? Are you just going to leave him like that? Chen Yu, think!" she scolded furiously. Youn stepped forward and took Mianmian’s hand, trying to calm her down.

"Talk some sense into your friend," Mianmian said to Youn before storming out of the room.

Jili entered moments later, shocked by the scene before him. "What happened?" he asked immediately. But before Yibo or Youn could respond, Gu Wei’s hand twitched, and the three of them exchanged looks, startled and hopeful.

Gu Wei woke up suddenly and sat up, startled by the unfamiliar faces around him. Yibo noticed the fear in his expression and quickly approached him, taking his hand.

“They’re my friends,” Yibo said, and Gu Wei visibly relaxed.

“I’m Cho Seung-youn,” Youn introduced himself, though he didn’t offer a handshake after seeing the hesitation on Gu Wei’s face.

“And I’m Jili,” Jili added with a smile.

“Gu Wei,” Gu Wei said quietly.

On the other hand, Katrina called Lay to ask him to come over to their house. "Okay, Auntie, I'm on my way," he replied, though a sense of confusion lingered in his mind.

"Grandma, are you okay?" A-Yuan asked Katrina as he noticed her puffy eyes. When he looked at his other grandmother, he was equally surprised. "What happened? It looks like you've been crying," he asked, concerned.

The two elders exchanged glances. "A-Yuan, can you go to your cousins for a while? We'll talk to you later. Your grandparents are just a bit tired," Cheng said gently. A-Yuan’s face showed his confusion, but he nodded and did as he was told.

When he entered the room, his two cousins immediately approached him. "What’s going on?" they asked. A-Yuan sat on the bed. "I’m not sure. They just told me to come here," he replied, pulling out his phone to send a message to Gu Wei.

"You know, it feels like something’s going on that I don’t know about," he muttered after sending the message, before tucking his phone away.

Meanwhile, Jili and Youn exchanged glances when they noticed that Gu Wei seemed on the verge of tears. Could he have heard what Mianmian said? Youn wondered, while Yibo quickly stood up to ask what was wrong.

"Is there something you're hiding from me?" Gu Wei asked, startling the three of them. "I know I'm no longer a part of your life, but I want to know if there’s something I should be aware of," Gu Wei added.

"What did you mean earlier when you talked about your remaining life?" he asked again, this time causing Yibo to take a step back. Just then, they heard the sound of a glass falling outside the room, followed by the slow creak of the door opening as Mianmian entered.

Eros glanced at the person who had just entered, and even though he couldn’t see the face, he knew it was Mianmian. "We’ll give you the chance to tell him yourself," she said before pulling Youn and Jili out of the room.

Gu Wei stood up from the bed. "Answer my question, Yibo," he demanded firmly. "How long have you been awake?" Yibo tried to change the subject.

"For a while now," Gu Wei replied shortly. "So I’ll ask you again, what did you mean by what you said?"

Yibo took a deep breath. "I have stage 4 brain cancer."

Meanwhile, when Lay arrived at Yibo’s parents’ house, he was surprised by their somber expressions. "Is something wrong?" he immediately asked as he sat down on the sofa. Lara and Katrina exchanged looks.

"You're making me nervous with all this silence," Lay said.

"We know now that Gu Wei and Zhan are the same person," Katrina began, shocking Lay so much that he stood up. "Wh-what did you say?" he stuttered. Katrina then explained everything she had learned about Zhan. Despite his surprise, Lay managed to speak. "I know you didn’t just call me here for this," he said. Once again, Yibo and Zhan’s parents exchanged glances.

"You’re right," Katrina said. "Lay, Yibo has a brain tumor, and if he doesn’t have surgery, he doesn’t have much time left in this world."

Before Lay could react, they heard the sound of glass breaking near the stairs. When they looked, they saw A-Yuan standing there in shock.
