PART 55
21:18, 6 September 2024"Are you still there?" Mianmian asked from the other line.
"Uh... yeah, let's just talk later, I'm driving," Eros stammered, his voice shaky.
Mianmian raised an eyebrow. "Chen Yu, are you even listening to me? Don’t you realize how dangerous this is for you? What if you suddenly get a headache and lose consciousness while driving?" Mianmian said angrily over the phone.
"I’m fine, Gu Wei and I are on a business trip," Yibo quickly changed the subject.
"Oh, okay. Just think about what I said before it’s too late," Mianmian said, hanging up abruptly without saying goodbye.
After ending the call, Mianmian sent a message to Yibo's parents: "Once they’re back from the business trip and Yibo still hasn’t told him, you should be the ones to inform Gu Wei."
Eros took a deep breath before resuming his drive. While on the road, he called Gu Wei, who picked up right away.
"Hello, are you ready?" Eros asked.
Gu Wei looked at his things. "Yeah," he replied briefly. "Okay, I’m on my way," Yibo said before hanging up.
Meanwhile, Gu Wei was surprised that Eros hung up so quickly. "I was going to tell him that Lay’s driving us to the airport," Gu Wei sighed, sinking back into the sofa.
"What did he say?" Lay asked, handing Gu Wei a glass of water.
"He said he’s picking me up, and I didn’t get the chance to tell him you were going to drive us to the airport," Gu Wei replied, taking a sip of water. A few minutes later, they heard a car horn outside. "He’s here," Gu Wei said, grabbing his suitcase, but Lay took it from him and carried it to Yibo’s car.
"Yibo, I’ll drive you both to the airport," Lay offered, placing Gu Wei’s bag in the car.
Yibo glanced at Gu Wei, who stood behind Lay. "That’s not necessary. I can drive just fine," Yibo said, his tone firm. Lay raised an eyebrow.
"What about your car?" Lay asked. Eros looked at Gu Wei again.
"Don’t worry about that. Let’s go," he said, gesturing for Gu Wei to get in the car.
"Is he mad at me?" Lay asked Gu Wei quietly. Gu Wei just shrugged and hugged Lay. "We’re off now. I'll call you when we arrive" Gu Wei said, pulling away from the hug.
"That won’t be necessary," Eros muttered as he got into the car. "Let’s go," he told Gu Wei, who just shook his head before getting into the front seat.
While they were driving, Gu Wei noticed that Eros seemed deep in thought."Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah," Yibo replied curtly, eyes fixed on the road.
As they sat in silence, Eros suddenly asked, "Have you and Lay been together for a long time?" Gu Wei glanced at Yibo, surprised by the question. "Almost three years," he replied, looking out the window. They fell silent once again.
"What would you do if you found out you only had a few months left to live, but then the person you love came into your life and gave you a reason to keep going, only for you to later discover that he already love someone else?" Yibo’s question furrowed Gu Wei’s brow. But he didn’t respond; instead, he just stared at Eros who was driving.
Before Gu Wei could answer, Yibo spoke again. "We’re here," he said, unbuckling his seatbelt and stepping out of the car. Gu Wei remained frozen, unsure why Eros asked that question, but a strange, inexplicable fear crept into him.
As Eros unloaded their things, Gu Wei stayed inside the car. "Are you okay?" Yibo asked, startling Gu Wei, who instinctively clutched his chest. He glared at Yibo.
"I'm fine," he replied curtly, stepping out of the car. He was about to grab his luggage, but Yibo insisted on carrying it for him. As they walked into the airport, Yibo's question kept playing over and over in Gu Wei’s mind, making it hard for him not to glance at Yibo from behind.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" Gu Wei thought to himself, staring at Eros. Eros turned to look at him, and Gu Wei froze as Yibo smiled at him—a smile that made him look even more handsome.
"You’re even more good-looking," Gu Wei whispered, not realizing Yibo had heard him.
"Thanks," Eros said, causing Gu Wei to be taken aback. Gu Wei rolled his eyes.
While they were in first class on the plane, Gu Wei couldn't help but glance at Eros. When Yibo felt that someone was looking at him, he turned to his side and was slightly surprised to see Gu Wei staring at him.
"I would tell the person I love, so I won’t have any regrets in the end. As for the one he love, it’s up to them to decide what to do. What’s important to me is that I’ve told the person I love the truth." Eros was caught off guard, and Gu Wei immediately noticed his reaction. "That’s my answer to your question. Are you referring to yourself?" Gu Wei asked, closing his eyes afterward, missing the look of surprise on Yibo’s face.
"Sometimes, being selfish isn’t always a bad thing," Gu Wei added.
After a few hours, they finally arrived at their destination. Gu Wei didn’t think Eros would follow through with his idea of them checking into the same room. Once Gu Wei set his things down, he excused himself, saying he was going to take a shower since he hadn’t been feeling well.
"If I told you the truth, like you said, would you come back to me?" Eros asked, thinking he had only spoken in his mind. He was startled when Gu Wei suddenly stopped. "Did you say something?" Gu Wei asked, and Eros quickly shook his head. "Okay, I’ll go take a shower. Oh, by the way, the banquet is tonight, right?" Gu Wei asked, and Yibo nodded in response.
While Gu Wei was taking a shower, he pieced together the events from his conversation with Mianmian and Yibo’s confinement in the restaurant. He suddenly turned off the shower. "No, no, no. I won’t allow my child to lose a father," he muttered, quickly finishing his shower.
Meanwhile, Eros, who was on the balcony, couldn’t stop thinking about what Gu Wei had said on the plane. "What should I do?" he asked, looking up at the sky. He was surprised when he felt someone embrace him from behind. "Can we stay like this for a while?" Gu Wei asked. Eros didn’t respond or move away from Gu Wei’s embrace.
"Do what will make the most people happy," Gu Wei whispered. Little did Gu Wei know, but at that moment, he was determined not to lose Eros. He would make him pay, but not in this way. "Even if it means ruining his happiness?" Eros asked, his back still turned to Gu Wei. "I don’t think his happiness will be ruined if he knows that many people will be happy, especially the most important person in his life," Gu Wei whispered again, still hugging Eros.
....
A few hours later, they were at the banquet. Gu Wei was surprised to see how many people recognized him, especially given his fame as an artist. On the other hand, it was Yibo’s first time attending such an event without his close friend Jili, and he struggled to mingle, especially since he didn’t know anyone there.
Not far from them, Liying watched. "Do you think I’ll let you two be together alone?" she said as she approached Eros and Gu Wei. But she stopped in her tracks and widened her eyes when she saw the man approaching them. When Gu Wei saw the man’s face as he extended his hand to shake, his whole body suddenly froze.
Elsewhere, Haoxuan and Jiyang were shocked when they saw the person on the screen. Before they could react, the connection with Gu Wei was lost. They exchanged worried glances and quickly ran to the garage, heading to the basement where they had locked up the man who had previously kidnapped Zhan. Upon arrival, they both frowned. "What’s going on? Who was Gu Wei talking to?" Jiyang asked, puzzled. "And who is he?" he added, his face showing astonishment.
Meanwhile, the man in front of Gu Wei couldn’t help but be surprised and smirk at Gu Wei’s reaction. Without hesitation, he kissed Gu Wei’s hand, and despite Gu Wei’s trembling, he managed to slap the man hard enough to make him fall to the floor. Eros, who was unaware of what had happened, was startled. Among everyone present, he only recognized Gu Wei’s face, so he didn’t know the reactions of those around them. His headache began to worsen again.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Eros asked with concern. Gu Wei gave him a disapproving look, and noticing Gu Wei’s pallor and sweat, Yibo immediately suspected something was wrong. "Who is the man he slapped, and why is he like this?" Yibo wondered to himself.
"You’re so disgusting!!" Gu Wei said angrily, trying to walk but feeling as if his legs wouldn’t move. He suddenly grabbed Yibo’s shirt. "Help me get out of here, I can’t walk," Gu Wei pleaded, and Eros, seeing the tears in Gu Wei’s eyes, felt a deep worry. Ignoring the people watching them, Eros carried Gu Wei out of the venue, despite the pain in his head.
"What happened?"
"Are they married?"
"Isn’t Mr. Wang married already? Why is he with someone else?"
These were the conversations of the people passing by. Meanwhile, Liying quickly turned away to avoid being recognized by the man Gu Wei had slapped.

While outside the hospital, Gu Wei couldn’t sit still. Being in a foreign country, he had no one to accompany him at the moment. “Yibo, what are you hiding?” he muttered to himself, pacing back and forth.
When Gu Wei saw the doctor emerge from the emergency room, he immediately approached. "Are you the patient’s family?" the doctor asked. Gu Wei was about to respond, but he stopped when he heard a voice behind him.
“I’m the patient’s wife,” Liying proudly announced as she walked towards them. Gu Wei shot her a sharp look. “What happened to my husband?” Liying asked, while the doctor glanced at Gu Wei. With a meaningful grin, Gu Wei replied, “Don’t listen to her. I’m Wang Yibo’s husband,” he said firmly, turning his gaze to Liying, and he saw the shock written all over her face.
Liying’s jaw dropped. Gu Wei gently lifted her chin to close her mouth. “Are you surprised, my dear sister, that I’m alive? Well, I can’t blame you. I, too, was surprised to find out that I’m a favorite of the heavens.”
