Luke

04:33, 28 August 2020

Luke sighed and stifled a yawn. He was still on guard duty. It had been quite the night. Early that morning, there had been the three romans who were inexplicably related to Hazel. Later that day they were expecting Leo, the Traveling Salesman, and Hedge, one of the king's eccentric bodyguards. They had sent word ahead that they were returning with yet two more Romans that the Greeks were apparently supposed to trust. Ever since Frank's arrival, which carried a warning of an impeding attack, the entire guard had been on watch. Frank had claimed the attack was to happen as soon as the sun rose, but it was early afternoon, and there still hadn't been the slightest sign of attack.

Still, Luke kept his guard up. As much as he hoped this was all a false alarm, he had a feeling it was anything but. Something big was coming. He had a sixth sense for that kind of thing. He was currently guarding the west entrance to the castle alone. He tended to like it better this way. As weird as it sounded, he felt a little self-conscious just standing there with other guards, and he was perfectly capable of defending the entrance on his own.

There was a sudden blur black, and faster than he could eat his own words (err...thoughts?), he was pinned to the ground and disarmed.

"Don't move," she warned, but it took only a glance up to have Luke too stunned to do anything anyways. She seemed surprised that he wasn't struggling or screaming. Her eyes narrowed, trying to get a good look at him, but his helmet was on.

Luke couldn't believe what he saw. Her black, blue streaked hair, peeked out of her hooded cloak, freckles splashed across her nose. She was wearing black pants, unexpected from a woman at the time, and black boots. Her eyes were just as startling an electric blue as he remembered.

"Are you human?" she reached forward and pulled off his helmet, confused. Luke did nothing. He was too utterly shocked. As she pulled the helmet away and saw his face, her eyes widened and she grimaced.

"Shoot." she muttered.

"You- you- you were dead!" Luke sputtered, she stood quickly and backed away slowly. Seeing her, alive, filled him with so many different emotions he couldn't handle them all. It was like a miracle to see her in front of him, alive and safe. But it also felt like his heart was breaking all over again.

"Luke, I really don't have the time to explain it to you-"

"Well if you don't have time to talk to your ex  husband, perhaps you'll have time to talk to the king." She flinched on "ex", and she was opening her mouth to explain, but Luke grabbed her arm, seizing her, and dragging her towards the castle.

"Wait! Wait! Luke, I can explain-"

"Tell it to the King."
