4. The Dinner
15:12, 20 June 2021◀ ▶
He hated Jeon Jungkook.
He absolutely loathed him. Who did he think he was, threatening to fire him for something Jimin had no control over? How could he have possibly guessed the guy he picked up at a club would turn out to be his new boss?
He had been fuming on the inside as Mr. Jeon had simply thrown him out after threatening to fire him, not saying another word and calling for the next Team Manager, making it impossible for Jimin to tell him in great detail what he thought of him.
Fine. Maybe it was better Mr. Jeon had thrown him out. And the first thing he had done when he came back to his Team's office, was to ask Yoongi what his first name was. Jeon fucking Jungkook.
He tried make it look like everything was all right and did his best to distract himself with work. But how in the world was he supposed to do that when a wall away, the guy he had hot, wild sex with the other night just threatened to fire him? To destroy everything he worked for for years with the snap of his finger? Was this punishment for sleeping around? It certainly felt like it.
Jimin nodded to himself as he decided he would make an oath of celibacy as of today. No more one-night stands. No more men. All they created was bloody chaos as the last hour just proved yet again.
"Hey, you okay Jimin?" came a soft, worried whisper and Jimin jerked at the unexpected feeling of a hand on his shoulders. He looked up to see Yoongi stare at him in worry, a deep frown on his face. "What's wrong? You haven't been answering me for the past five minutes and you look pale as a ghost. Is everything all right?"
"I'm fine," he quickly breathed out, but Yoongi didn't look convinced.Of all the people in his Team he was closest with him. They had started work on the same day and though it had taken Yoongi a long time to open up to him, he often grabbed lunch with him.Outside of work however, he still knew very little about him. He was a very reserved person but perhaps just as hard working as Jimin. He often came to work presenting some new strategies and accountant plans for upcoming events, promotions and idea's they'd come up with.
Jimin had tried more than once, to get the boy to hang out with him and his roommates, but the dark-haired boy had always refused, finding excuses, so Jimin had given up. Maybe he just wasn't the type to go out drinking.
Speaking of going out to drink... tonight would suck. Company dinners, no matter how politely you were invited, was mandatory to attend.
"Are you sure? Was it something Mr. Jeon said?"
Jimin went rigid but tried not to show his emotions as he quickly shook his head. "No, not at all. He's just... not like I expected him to be."More like not WHO he expected him to be.
But Yoongi nodded, looking a little puzzled himself. "Yeah. I mean I thought he might be a bit of a snob and you know... like a self-obsessed teenager, but he seems quite all right."
Yeah. Except that Jimin slept with him and he now held his career in his stupid, teenager hands! This was an absolute catastrophe. He couldn't even decide which emotions were stronger: his hatred for the boy, the fear for his life to get ruined or being stuck remembering how he had felt inside him. Jesus, he was a mess.
A soft knock came at the door to their office and a tall, handsome boy snuck in his head, smiling brightly. It was the one who had stood next to Jungkook earlier. Kim... Mr. Kim... Namjoon? Yeah. That's what he had called himself. "Sorry for interrupting," he said as he came in.
He was as tall as Jungkook, if not a bit broader and bulkier build, but his smile was open and friendly, and Jimin found it hard to dislike him.
"No interruption." he quickly said and stood, walking over to him. "What can I do for you Mr. Kim?"
Mr. Kim's smile dropped a little, looking for Jimin for a long time. Long enough for Jimin to fear the worst. Shit.. did he know? Had Jungkook told him? If so, this was hella unfair. He was supposed to keep his mouth shut but he runs to his secretary and spills his guts? But then the boy smiled warm and brightly, reaching out a hand. "Please, call me Namjoon like everyone else."
Jimin took it, but his own smile felt fake, too confused to figure out what to feel.
Yoongi had come to his side and shot Namjoon a puzzled look. Oh... damn. Yoongi might be a private person, but that didn't mean he was shy. No. He spoke his mind and often cared little about how he sounded. "Isn't calling you by first name going to get you in trouble with holding your authority?"
Jimin elbowed him hard and Yoongi grunted, but Namjoon only continued smiling. "Well, it makes me feel old and I like to create a friendly relationship with the staff here anyway. I think Jungkook- I mean, Mr. Jeon will make up for my lack of etiquette."
"You two seem to be close."
It was out before he had a time to stop himself. Shit!!
Namjoon didn't seem to mind the personal question though, chuckling under his breath."We are. I've known him since nearly ten years now, even went to America with him. In many ways, he's like a kid brother to me, even if he's also my boss now, I suppose...It's why it's so hard for me to call him Mr. Jeon. It always reminds me of his father. "
A shadow flickered over his features and his eyes dropped to Jimin's and stayed there, the intensity of his gaze making Jimin go rigid as Namjoon went on, speaking the next words calmly, but the felt like they had a double meaning.
"He's still young and this is his first real position of authority, so I would ask of you to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he might make some mistakes at first."
Mistakes? Like threatening to fire him in his first few minutes in office?Namjoon really did know, didn't he?It only made Jimin angrier. "I'm sure no one would hold it against him," he found himself saying in a dark mumble, holding Namjoon's eyes. The boys eyes widened slightly, then swallowed hard at whatever he saw in Jimin's eyes.
Jimin became aware that his teammates were staring, catching up on the weird tension and he quickly cleared his throat, plastering on a fake smile.
"So, what can I do for you Namjoon?" he asked in a friendly, polite voice.
"Ah," the boy exclaimed and also put on a mask of lightness. "I really just wanted to introduce myself and tell you that Jung- Mr. Jeon would really like everyone of your team to join the dinner tonight."
Right. The dinner. He could think of a thousand things he'd rather do. Instead he nodded. "Sure. We would love to, right?" He turned to the others and found them all smiling, even Yoongi.
Weird. Jimin thought he didn't like going out?
"Great. Then I'll see you all tonight. Bye guys!" He called out and waved, then slipped back out the door. Yoongi let out a short chuckle. "That guy is so weird.... I like him." Jimin snapped around to him. It had taken Jimin one year for Yoongi to say that to him and Namjoon managed that in two minutes? So not fair! Nothing was fair today!
He let out a growl and went back to his chair, aware of Yoongi's worried frown as he watched his team manager go to work with a stubborn angry grimace, barely speaking to anyone for the rest of the day.
****
Jimin thought back to all the things he did wrong in his life, wondering what he had done to deserve this.
He glanced across the table to the dark haired boy eating and drinking, perched between Namjoon and Jerry, while Jimin was surrounded by the other four Team leaders with whom he didn't really get along with.
And here he was, having to listen to the young boy being all charming and perfect again. Jungkook was born to be in the middle. He was funny, charming, sweet and observant, holding conversation with the people around him and capturing them with his easy smiles and friendly words. Namjoon was just as good, making people feel comfortable and relaxed as he talked openly and casual, like he was hanging out with friends instead of wok-collogues he barely knew.
Jimin did his best to keep quiet and just get through this. That was until Jerry turned to Jungkook with a smile and clapped on his shoulder. "I totally forgot to congratulate you, Mr. Jeon."
Jimin stilled his hands holding the chopstick and forgot to chew as he saw the way Jungkook tensed and quickly glance over to Jimin with a flash to his eyes. "I mean about your upcoming wedding. Heard your fiancé is still in America but she will move here in a few weeks too."
Jimin choked on his chicken stew, his eyes flying wide. Fiancé? Jungkook was engaged? To a girl?
Oh, this was hilarious. Jungkook was more than just a closet gay. He was living a freaking lie. "Thank you, Jerry. I am incredibly happy with her and can't wait to have her by my side again."
Jimin snorted and Jungkook shot him such a dark look over he table, he suddenly became very, very interested with his food. Yeah. He was sure Jungkook was beyond happy with his fiancé. That's why he slept with Jimin.
And then it got worse as Jerry asked about the girl, and Jungkook, with a happy grin, told him all about his beautiful, talented fiancé Lee Ji-Eun. How they met and fell in love and how she was the daughter of some business associate for his father and-
Jimin got up and excused himself for the bathroom. He couldn't stand this one second longer. He passed his team and Yoongi stared after him in worry. He was keen and smart, and Jimin had no idea how to make his growing suspicion go away. He was sure to pick up on something if this continued.
He banged open the toilet door angrily and made sure no one was in there until the grabbed the sink hard and stared at his own reflection in the mirror. Gosh, he looked angry, his mouth a flat, pressed together line, his forehead ceased in angry wrinkles and his body trembling slightly. He was angry. At Jungkook and at himself.
He felt like punching and screaming as he stared at himself.
Steps in front of the door and then the handle being pushed down. Jimin leaned down quickly and turned the water handle, pretending to be washing his hands while ignoring whoever was entering the bathroom. The door shut.
And then the lock was turned.
Everything in Jimin froze. He still didn't look up from his bend over position in front of the sink, but he turned of the water. Silence. He knew who it was. Knew it by the scent wrapping around him. With a long, heavy breath, he righted himself... And met Jungkook's dark eyes in the mirror.
He still stood at the door, watching him, his arms crossed in front of his body as he stared at Jimin.
"What do you want?" Jimin snapped, not even trying to sound polite. So what if he was his boss? He couldn't fuck it up more with him.
Jungkook said nothing, but he saw the boys jaw tick and chest muscles twitch, staring at him darkly. Out there, he had been all warm smiles and friendly attitude. But Jimin knew that wasn't all to Jungkook.
Just like Jimin had been quiet and absent on the table, which also was nothing like him.
Out there was the lie. This was who they really were.
"I asked you something! Or did you just come in here to glower at me?"
Jungkook snarled and pushed off the door so fast, Jimin flinched back and hit the sink. He swallowed hard as the boy towered over him and seethed out: "You should watch your tone, Jimin. I'm still you boss.""What? Are you going to threaten to have me fired again?" He hated the way his fear trembled alongside the anger, but both was unstoppable as it all bubbled out of him. He wasn't a push-over, no matter how important his job was for him.
Jungkook narrowed his eyes as he leaned forward, grabbing the sink around Jimin's waist and trapping him there, sending Jimin's heart racing, his breath hitching at his proximity. "You're starting to make me think you want that, or why else would you talk to me like that?"
Jimin snorted and rolled his eyes. This dude really was self-obsessed. "You want me to beg you again like I did the other night, hmm? I wont!"
A hot flash shot out of his eyes, his mouth forming a wicked grin. "You liked begging me that night." His fear was pushed down by the hot, blazing anger coursing through his veins as he raised his hands and pushed against his chest. But damn, he was massive and strong, barely moving an inch, and all it caused was the younger to shoot him an even darker look.
"Well you will never hear it again, you asshole! Now let me go."He pushed again, and it ended fruitless once more. Jungkook actually had the audacity to smile at his attempts which only made Jimin angrier. "I don't think I want to, this is too much fun."
"Fun?" Jimin snorted angrily, and then did something he never though he would as he slapped Jungkook in the face, the sound echoing through the room. Jimin's mouth dropped open as he realized what he had done.Jungkook's head had snapped around, his mouth hanging open in shock and his eyes wide, like he too, had never expected Jimin to do that. And when Jungkook realized-
Shit.
His head snapped back around, a low growl leaving his throat as one hand grabbed him by the neck and ripped him away from the sink. He was turned and then connected with the wall hard enough to make him see stars for a second, before Jungkook's lips snarled against his: "I wouldn't have done that if I were you."
And then he felt him. Felt all those hard planes and strong muscles push him harder into the wall, one leg pressed between his thighs while that hand around his throat squeezed tight, rendering him incapable of speech.
Jimin could do nothing but stare at him wide eyed, his mouth parted and his lips quivering. Jungkook stared at him and- No fucking way. There was a hunger in his eyes again, and the heat even more blazing than the other night. His dark eyes held his, the slipped down to his lips were they lingered. Jimin could feel the small tremble rocking the taller's body, like he was fighting for control.
And despite everything- despite how much he truly hated him, he felt his body react to him. Felt his heartbeat pick up, his stomach tingling like crazy and his breathing turned ragged.Jungkook could feel it too and he leaned forward, consciously or not, his expression overcome by hunger and desire, the air between them crackling like it was charged.
Jungkook was still staring at his mouth. Was he remembering all the things he had done to him with it? Did he want it again?Did Jimin? Oh for fuck's sake, this was not what he had expected at all and it was confusing him so much, he flinched.
The small movement managed to break the spell on Jungkook's face. The younger growled again and then pushed himself away forcefully, Jimin being glad for the wall holding him upright as he watched the younger pace again just like he had this morning in his office. Like a caged panther, ready to jump the second the bars opened.Jimin swallowed hard, but he had to say something- had to find a solution.
"How about we just pretend nothing ever happened? Let's just forget about all of it!"
Jungkook stopped his pacing and turned to him with narrowed eyes."And I'm just supposed to trust you that you tell no one about this?"
Jimin snorted and finally managed to stand on his own feet again, taking a step forward, squaring his shoulders. "Why the hell would I tell anyone? You really think I want people knowing about what happened between us? That I slept with my boss, accidentally or not? Different to you, I fought hard for my place in the company! I earned my teams respect and managed to make the other Team Leaders see me as a real opponent, not just some new-be with no experience. You really thing I wanna ruin my reputation? If they knew about this and I am going to get promoted in the future, everybody will think it only happened because I slept my way up the rank! So no, Jungkook. I'm not going to tell anyone!"
Jungkook's mouth had parted, like he hadn't even thought of it that way- considered the reasons Jimin might not want anybody to find out either.
Then his dark, frustrated expression evaporated, followed by a smile.Jimin's breath caught. Why did he have to look so annoyingly handsome when he smiled?
"So you finally know my first name?"
Jimin's mouth snapped shut. Shit. He just called him Jungkook for the first time. He hadn't even realized.
Jungkook took a deep breath and he saw the decision he made on his face. "Okay. I'm not going to fire you."Jimin's shoulders dropped in utter relieve. "But," Jungkook went on and that smile turned into a wicked grin, Jimin immediately tensing again. "I'm not going to forget about it. And I would really like to see you try."The humorous challenge in his voice was undeniable.Such a smug, self-absorbed asshole!
He stepped forward and Jimin tumbled back on reflex. But Jungkook turned slightly to the left, not to him, but the door, as he unlocked it. He pushed down the handle but stopped, turning his head to his, still with that wicked smile. "And it's still Mr. Jeon to you."
And then he left him yet again. Speechless yet again. Jimin groaned into the silence of the toilet. Crap! He really had had no fucking clue what he had gotten himself into.
