Chapter 8 - Seungcheol's PoV
16:41, 9 April 2016The phone in my pocket keeps vibrating. Right now I'm in the middle of a meeting with my shareholders. As a CEO, I have to be a role model to my employees, so i'm not gonna pick up a call in a meeting.
Suddenly a knock is heard and my secretary interrupts our meeting.
"I'm sorry, sir, you have a phone call from your mother."
"Didn't I leave a message to you, that I don't want any distraction when I'm in a meeting?"
"I'm sorry, but your mother said it's really important, sir."
How important is it that my mom wants to talk about to the point I have to stop this meeting? I let out a long exhale, and without much thinking I suspend the meeting. I know my priority. I have to call my mom back.
Mom is stubborn. She puts herself as the most important on top of others.
And that applies to my household as well. Mom is so stubborn to accept Jeonghan as her son-in-law. She thinks Jeonghan isn't good for me. She thinks Jeonghan will never be able to replace Doyoon in my life. I love Doyoon, but my life now is Jeonghan. It reminds me of my first encounter with my angel, Jeonghan.
When I taught Mingyu about "sharing with others" in Professor Cho's orphanage, Mingyu suddenly ran into a stranger's lap. A guy with beautiful figure and long hair as though he's an angel. My Jeonghan. Mingyu laughed so hard and never seemed to stop playing with that pretty guy's hair. That guy wasn't awkward either to hug or kiss my son. And I was so surprised to hear Mingyu calling that pretty guy "mommy".
I saw his shocked face. But it quickly disappeared into the most beautiful and perfect smile that I have ever seen. The smile that made me dare myself to get to know him, love him, and own him.
17 missed calls and all of them are from my mom.
"Mom..what is it?"
"What?! Mingyu is sick? Where is he? How's his condition?"
"Why didn't Jeonghan pick up the phone?"
"No, mom. Jeonghan isn't that kind of person..he probably has a class now.."
Mother is talking about that again. It's always about Jeonghan who is too young and irresponsible, Jeonghan who doesn't care about Mingyu, and Jeonghan who married me for money.
I hang up the phone to my mother and try to call Jeonghan. It's true what mother said, my wife's phone is not active. This time I try to call Seungkwan, Jeonghan's bestfriend. I'm so surprised to hear Seungkwan says their class today was canceled. And Jeonghan wasn't with him since afternoon.
Jeonghan is still really young. He's 8 years below me. Sometimes I feel guilty, was I too early to tie the knot with him?
My mother's prejudice and Seungkwan's confession makes me doubt him all of sudden. What if he's playing around right now? I try to call him again, but it won't get through. Jeonghan-ah, where are you? Don't make me eventually believe what my mother said about you.
