Chapter 12

17:35, 6 April 2013

Elena’s POV:

Melody, Becca, Candice, and I were spending the day setting up for the Spring Formal dance. It was the day of the dance, believe it or not, and the four of us were part of the dance commity. The Spring Formal dance was being held at a fancy ball room that all the dances are usually held at. Our school never throws the dances at our gym, because people complain that it smells like stinky socks and we don’t want to be dancing and eating in a place where people usually sweat and work out.

The ball room was big and fancy, and had a stage perfect for the DJ to set up his stuff. Lined up on one side of the room was a long table at where the food, drinks, and plates would be kept. In the middle of the room and near the stage would be the dance floor, and around it but a few feet away would be round tables that seated four people. Above the stage was a sign that said ‘2013 Spring Formal’ in pink and green cursive writing. The tables had lavender colored table cloths on them, with the center piece being a tall glass that was filled with water with a single red rose dipped inside, and a circular candle floating on top.

Everything looked perfect and fit for the dance, and I couldn’t wait for tonight. When Candice and Becca found out that Harry was my date to the dance, they freaked out and started claiming that the two of us would soon start dating. They’re relentless about it, but I love them anyway. Then we started bothering Candice about the fact that Niall asked her to the dance. Niall was the nicest out of the five boys, and I personally think that him and Candice would be perfect together. Both of them are on the quiet side, but at the same time have a lot in common. The two of them can eat like a pig, but won’t gain a pound. And they love playing video games too, since Candice isn’t exactly a girly girl.

As I put the center piece for one of the tables, I turned to Becca. “So wait, who’s your date to the dance?” I ask her.

“Ryder Miller,” she replies with a smile. I think for a moment, the name sounding familiar. Then I realized that he was on the school’s football team, the goalie, to be exact. “Who are Liam and Louis going with?” she asks.

“Louis is going with that Year 11 girl, Eleanor Calder,” I say. “And Liam is bringing his girlfriend, Danielle Peazer.”

“Oh yeah,” Becca grins. “I forgot Liam had a girlfriend.”

Candice, who had just finished putting the plates on the long table, comes up to me. “Are you excited for tonight?” she asks. “I mean, with Harry being your date and all.”

I blush slightly. “Yeah, I am,” I say. “I just hope it won’t be too awkward or anything.”

We work for twenty five more minutes, until the head of the dance committy, Marilyn Chambers, announces, “Alright, girls! We did a fabulous job setting up. You can all head home and start getting ready for the dance! I’ll see you then.”

Everyone starts gathering their stuff and we leave the building, heading towards our car. We all had came in Becca’s car, and before she dropped us all off, we got some frozen yogurt from Pinkberry. By the time I had been dropped home, it was five-thirty. Entering my house, I briefly greeted Lucy and Tyler before running up the stairs and into my room, closing the door shut. I walked into my bathroom and turned the shower on. Taking my clothes off, I stepped underneath the lukewarm water and closed my eyes as it ran down my smooth skin.

Once I had shampooed and conditioned my hair, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped my white towel around my body. I walked out of my bathroom and went over to my dresser. I slipped on my grey sweat pants with a baggy white tee, and then grabbed my hair dryer. For the next ten minutes or so, I blow dried my hair until it was perfectly straight, silky, and dry. Once I did that, I took the curling iron and curled my hair, looking into the mirror as I curled my hair into cute, loose ringlets.

When I had finished curling my hair, I started doing my nails. To somewhat match my dress, I painted my nails a baby pink color with some white glitter on it. Glancing at the clock, I saw that it was thirteen minutes till six o’ clock. I then moved on to doing my eye make up. I first applied some black eyeliner and black mascara. Then, I put on dark brown eyeshadow along with some black eyeshadow. Lastly, I put a coat of silver eyeshadow to give it a smokey eye look, and I was finished.

Feeling a bit thirsty, I stood up when I finished doing my eye make up and walked down the stairs. Entering the kitchen, I saw Tyler and Lucy talking. When I walked in and Tyler looked at me, he almost choked on the apple he was eating, and Lucy just stood there, simply grinning.

“You look gorgeous, Elena!” Lucy exclaims happily. “Ooh, I can’t wait to see you when you’re fully ready.”

“Jesus, El,” Tyler says, eyes widening. “You look really pretty.”

“Aw, thanks Ty,” I grin, giving my brother a sloppy kiss on the cheek as he winces. I grab myself a glass of water, and call out, “I’ll see y’all in a bit!” before running up the stairs with my water.

Once I drank my water, I started with my make up once again. I applied some pink blush on my cheeks and then some pink lip stick. Looking at the clock once again, I saw that it was six fifteen. Sighing, I stood up and walked towards my closet. Opening it up, I crouched down and looked for the perfect pair of shoes. A smile came on my face when my eyes landed on my silver heels that had stones on it. Pulling them out, I put them next to my bed. Suddenly, my phone buzzed and I looked at it, smiling when I saw that it was Harry.

From: Harry

Never in my life have I worn PINK. This is all for you, Carter. -.-

I grinned, biting my bottom lip.

To: Harry

Aw, grow up. Like I said before, real men wear pink.

From: Harry

Real men wear pink, my arse. You almost ready?

To: Harry

Yeaahhh. Just need to put on my dress.

From:

Okay; I need to get this tux on. I’ll see you soon.

I smile as I put my phone down. Harry would be here at seven, and looking at the time, I saw that it was only six twenty-five. I sat on my bed and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels. Turning to a random channel, I saw that Fashion Police was on. I watched that for a while, until it was six fourty-five. Getting off my bed, I locked my bedroom door and closed the curtains of my windows. I then took off my clothes, and then slipped on the dress tha fit me perfectly.

With the dress on, I put on my heels. I then put on silver hoop earrings along with a silver necklace that had a heart pendant. I looked in the mirror one last time, looking at myself. I looked good, with the dress and my jewelry, not to mention my cute nose ring that I adored. With my clothes on, I grabbed a silver clutch and my white iPhone, before walking down the stairs. My heels clicked on the marble floor as I met Lucy and Tyler in the living room, and their jaws dropped as they saw me.

“Holy shit,” Tyler chuckles. “Okay, now you look gorgeous.”

“Why, thank you darling,” I laugh.

Lucy smiles at me. “Harry’s one lucky guy.”

“Lucy, he’s just my date,” I blush deeply.

“Mhm,” she smiles, unconvinced as she exits the room.

Just then, the doorbell rings, causing me to jump slightly. “Oh my God, he’s here,” I breathe out.

            Tyler chuckles. “Nervous, El?”

I roll my eyes. “Shush! You stay here.”

This time he rolls his eyes as I walk towards the door. With my hand on the door knob, I take a breath and open it. My breath hitches when I see the boy standing in front of me. Harry was dressed in a black tux with a white dress shirt underneath, and a tie that matched my dress. His hands were in his pocket, a smirk on his pink lips. Harry’s curly hair sat perfectly on the top of his head, and it’s safe to say that he looked hot.

I think sexy fits his description better.

When Harry’s green eyes land on me, they widen a bit, his lips parting. “Wow,” he lowly says. “You look... Stunning.”

I blush, smiling up at him. “You don’t look shabby yourself,” I smile. “Love the tie.”

Harry chuckles. “You better,” he says. “This get up is all for you.” I laugh and he asks, “Shall we?”

I nod, stepping out of my house and closing the door behind me. The two of us walk down the drive way to where his black Volvo is, and I recognize the two faces sitting in the back seat; Melody and Zayn. I smile as I get into the passenger seat, and turn to look at the couple behind me.

“Fancy seeing you here,” I smirk as I see them.

“Girl, you look gorgeous,” Melody grins.

            “You do too,” I reply.

She really did. Melody was wearing the dress we had bought before, along with sparkling silver heels. Some of her hair was tied into a bun as the rest fell down, but it was all curled. She had on red lip stick and blue and silver eyeshadow on, and her nails matched her dress. Over all, she looked beautiful.

Harry got into the front seat, and started up the car. He then started driving to where the dance was being held, and we soon enough got there. Parking the car, we all got out. Holding hands, Zayn and Melody walked towards the entrance. Harry looked at me, and then held out his left elbow.

“Shall we?” he asks with a small smirk.

I smile, looping my right arm with his left one. “Let’s do it.”

The two of us, together, walked towards the entrance. The doors opened, and we entered the big ball room. It looked wonderful, with the DJ playing music, people dancing on the dance floor, and others sitting at the tables. I spotted the boys with their dates, and Harry and I walked towards them.

“Well don’t you two look adorable,” Candice grins. She was dressed in a midnight blue dress with spaghetti straps that had glitter dots by the waist down, and black heels. Her hair was straightened and bangs covering her beautiful eyes.

I chuckle, and my eyes land on two girls. Eleanor Calder and Danielle Peazer, Louis and Liam’s dates, looked beautiful in their dresses. They both were really gorgeous girls, and I had a feeling Louis fancied Eleanor, judging by the way he was looking at her.

Just then, Becca and her date Rider walked over. “Hey, guys,” she smiles.

“Hey,” we all say in unison.

We all talk for a while, and then decide to sit down. Since there were only four seats per table, Harry, Melody, Zayn, and I sat at one, Candice, Niall, Eleanor, and Louis sat at another, and then Becca, Rider, Liam, and Danielle sat at another. We all laughed and talked for a while, until Heart Skips A Beat by Olly Murs came on.

Melody’s eyes widen and she looks at me. “Elena...” she trails off.

I grin widely and the two of us stand up, ditching our dates and running to the dance floor where people were already dancing. This was our absolute favorite song, and as we danced, we sang along with the song. “So put another record on, kiss and leave me on,” we sang, laughing as we did so and danced. “Nothing really matters when we’re dancing. Listen to the same sad song, playing on repeat. ‘Cause every time we come this close, my heart skip, skips a beat!”

“So come on, spin me around.” Just as that line came on, someone grabbed my right hand and literally spun me around, pulling me into their chest. My eyes slightly widened when they met a pair of familiar green ones, the boy smirking down at me. I laugh as Harry and I dance along to the music, and from the corner of my eye I can see Zayn dancing with Melody.

“So hung up, we can’t let go. If you really have to leave, one more time just move me slow.” Harry smiles down at me, our faces inches apart as we dance along with everyone else. “So put another record on, play it on repeat. Nothing really matters when we’re dancing. ‘Cause all you ever need to know is what you do to me. And every time you hold me close, my heart skip, skips a beat.”

Harry again grabs my hand and spins me around just as the next line comes on. “So come on, spin me around. Now I don’t wanna go home. ‘Cause when you hold me like you know my heart skip, skips a beat. I know I should, but I can’t leave it alone. And when you hold me like this, that’s when my heart skip, skips a beat.”

We all danced along to the music, and it surprised me to see how much fun Harry was having. He genuinely looked like he was enjoying himself, and I was glad that he was here with me. When the song finally ended, I couldn’t help but laugh and Harry laughed along with me. We then returned to our seats, and Harry turns to me.

“You want anything to eat?” he asks.

“I’m in the mood for pasta,” I grin, standing up. “C’mon.” Harry and I stand up and head to the food table, and I grab a plate. When I see that Harry didn’t grab one, I turn to him. “Aren’t you gonna eat?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “I’m not that hungry.”

I think for a moment. “How about you share my food?” I suggest. “I’m not that hungry, but we can share?”

His pink lips curve into a smirk. “Sure,” he says.

I put some pasta on the plate and Harry adds some chips. We grab ourselves two cans of Pepsi and sit back down at the table. As the two of us eat, my gaze lands on Melody and Zayn, who are holding hands and dancing. I watch as Zayn whispers something in her ear, causing her to laugh and I can see the blush on her cheeks from here.

“They’re so adorable together,” I murmur, biting into the pasta.

“I know,” Harry agrees with a small smile. “Zayn seems so much more happier with your friend.”

“Melody too,” I say, tucking a curly strand of hair behind my ear.

Harry and I continued eating and talking as we also talked to the rest of our friends. I got to know Danielle and Eleanor a little better, and the two of them were really friendly girls. We took a lot of pictures with my phone and at one point, A Moment Like This came on by Kelly Clarkson. My conversation with the girls got interrupted when Harry smirked at me, offering my his hand. He had taken off his black tux jacket, so his white dress shirt and pink tie were in full view.

“May I have this dance?” he asks, his voice low and husky.

My breath hitches as I nod, taking his hand in mine. Harry leads me to the dance floor where couples are already dancing, and my other hand goes on his shoulder while his rests on my hip. The two of us sway to the music, and at that moment, I forget about the fact that Harry’s the school’s bad boy. I forget that he’s dangerous. I forget that he has secrets that he’s so convervative about. I forget that my parents want me to stay far away from him.

Because all that matters right now, is Harry and I in this single moment.

*************

The dance was a blast. We all talked, danced, ate, laughed, and had the best time. Harry was right now dropping me home, and it was almost half past eleven at night. These high school dances literally seem to last forever. When we pulled up to my house, Harry suddenly became a gentleman and opened the door for me, and walked me up to my front door.

When we got to it, I turned to Harry. He still didn’t have on his tux jacket, and I certainly didn’t mind because I could just make out his toned chest. Stop it, Elena.

“I really had fun tonight,” I smile at him. “Thanks, Harry.”

Harry grinned at me, dimples in view. “So did I,” he says. He lets out a breath and says, “I should get going. I’ll see you on Monday, yeah?”

I nod, smiling. “Yeah,” I say quietly.

But before Harry turned around to leave, he leaned in and his soft lips met my right cheek, kissing it ever so softly. His lips lingered on top of my cheek, before leaning back, a smirk on his lips. “Bye, Carter,” he smirks, before turning and walking down my drive way.

By the time I entered my house, my cheeks were most likely a deep red color. Locking the front door, I walked up the stairs and entered my room, knowing Lucy and Tyler were already in bed. I walked into my bathroom and took off my clothes and shoes, changing into my pajamas. Once I had fully changed and all of my make up was off, I climbed into bed. My hair was still curled, obviously, and I really didn’t care. Before sleeping, though, I looked at my phone and scrolled through the millions of pictures I had taken tonight.

The first picture was of me and Melody, the two of us standing with our arms around each other, smiling as you could see us from head to toe. Another one was of Harry and I, his arm wrapped around my waist and mine doing the same as we smiled at the camera, and his dimples were in view. The next few pictures were the same thing of the boys with their dates and Becca with her date. Then there was a picture of me and the rest of the boys, Melody, Candice, Eleanor, Danielle, Becca, and Rider; with all of us standing by the big windows. It went like Rider, Becca, Candice, Niall, Zayn, Melody, me, Harry, Louis, Eleanor, Danielle, and Liam.

Then there were more than two dozen pictures, all of them being selfies that I took or ones that everyone else had taken when they stole my phone. There was one of Melody and I had taken, with us making silly faces when we were sitting at the table. Another one was of me with all of the girls. Then one that I just had to take with the five boys. Then there were a bunch of selfies Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis had taken when they stole my phone. Each picture had them doing wierd faces. I crack a smile as I slide through picture. Then after all of those pictures were selfies of Harry and I.

I smile as I see the first picture of Harry and I. It was when the two of us were sitting at the table, my arm stretched out so I could take the picture. Harry was smirking at the camera, no surprise there, and I was making a kissy face with my blue eyes widening. The next picture was of the two of us doing ‘the smolder,’ which I thought was hilarious. Then there was a normal picture of us just simply smiling at the camera. There was a picture of Harry grinning widely and me biting my bottom lip as my forehead creased.

With each picture of Harry and I, the smile on my face widened. The pictures were perfect, and I loved each and every one of them. I uploaded all of those pictures on Facebook, tagging everyone in them. Before going to bed, I updated my status for the night.

Elena Carter: Tonight was really amazing.
