I looked up from my laptop. โ€œEverything okay?โ€

โ€œBetter than okay,โ€ he said.

He came to stand behind me, arms around my shoulders. I leaned back without even thinking. We had learned each otherโ€™s rhythms. When to speak, when to be silent. When silence was the language.

Then he said, โ€œOpen the drawer.โ€

I blinked. โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œThe drawer,โ€ he said again, quieter.

I pulled it open, expecting paperwork or another forgotten USB stick.

But insteadโ€”

There was a small box. Square. Velvet.

I turned to look at him.

โ€œI didnโ€™t want it to be dramatic,โ€ he said, a little breathless. โ€œI didnโ€™t want flash or champagne or a press release. Justโ€ฆ this. The place where it all started again.โ€

I opened the box.

Inside was a ring. Simple, gold, warm in the light. Inside it, engraved in tiny, careful letters:

> โ€œMeet me where the sky turns grey.โ€

My eyes filled before I could stop them.

โ€œHao,โ€ I whispered.

He kneltโ€”right there, between his desk and the open window, where the city hummed below and time held its breath again.

โ€œLetโ€™s stop remembering,โ€ he said, eyes never leaving mine. โ€œLetโ€™s start writing.โ€

I laughed through the tears. โ€œAre you asking?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m asking.โ€

And of all the things Iโ€™d ever said to himโ€”

This was the easiest.

โ€œYes.โ€

That night, he didnโ€™t lock the drawer.

He just left it open, the box still inside, as if to say:

This love doesnโ€™t need to be hidden anymore.

And when the sky turned grey the next morningโ€”

We met again.

But this time, not as almosts.

This time, as forevers.
