Chapter 7
08:41, 11 December 2017It was already dark and you and Jungkook are already on your way back home, both carrying loads of groceries. It was a blessing that the boy was with you today to help you carry the heavy bags up to the apartment. You're a few more blocks away from your apartment when the curious maknae brought up the subject about his teacher.
"So noona," he started coolly.
"Hmm?" You tilted your head towards the direction of the tall boy and waited for him to continue.
"So what's the deal between you and Mr. Yo?" He asked with a straight face, but you could see the curiosity in his eyes. Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at him confusedly and stared for a moment at his innocent face.
"And what do you mean by 'What's the deal?'" You asked. The boy just shrugged his shoulders.
"I dunno, like how you two met and why both of you were surprised to see each other earlier." He queried and stole a glance at you before looking back at the path you both were walking at. You just flashed a sly smirk at him.
"What? I'm serious. I just want to know. You're my 'sister' and he's my homeroom teacher." He protested.
"And?"
"Because!..." But he can't finish his sentence as he can't find the right words to describe what he is worrying about at the back of his mind. You just pursed your lips before answering.
"Fine. YeongCheol - I mean, Mr. Yo and I, like what he said to you earlier, we're classmates. He is the brightest student in our batch at that time. He always bags first place in school rankings..." And you just sighed.
"And I always came in second." You just pouted reminiscing the memory. Jungkook just eyed you with a surprised expression. Never in his life did he imagine you as someone studious, because in his eyes, you are someone who is always cool and somewhat a happy go lucky person. He didn't say anything but just listened to you intently.
"I tried so hard to beat him but he is so damn good. He barely study. He always spend his time hanging out with his friends or mess around with his 'girlfriends'. I even caught him sleeping in Biology class once, but he still aced his exams. We know each other because we sometimes join the same school competition and get a little antiquated, but that's just it. I never got the chance to really get to know him better since I spend most of my time studying and doing projects in the library. And if I do get to have free time, I'm with Jin." Jungkook was quiet for a moment.
"But you don't fancy him?" He suddenly asked.
"What?! N-no!" You answered as you made a face.
"We're just acquianted and I barely know anything personal about him."
"But I have a gut feeling he likes you. The way he looked at you earlier..." Then he trailed off and stopped walking and just looked at you.
"What?" You curiously asked. You stopped walking as well and faced the boy.
"The way he looked at you was the same way I saw how Jin hyung looked at you before this whole mess started." He said sadly. Your heart stopped a beat for a moment as you looked at Jungkook waiting for you to respond. So was Jin's feelings that obvious that even a teenage boy can already figure out his secret? Even if it hurts, you tried to push away the idea.
"Psh, you might just be mistaken." You brushed aside his statement and ignored what he just said about Jin. You have learned to supress your feeling towards him. You just continued on walking and Jungkook ran after you.
"I'm not, noona. Believe me. It's the same look." He insisted.
"Maybe he just looks at people that way, Kookie. It may not mean anything." You said casually. Jungkook sighed, but he still has no intention of giving up, but you did not give him time to respond.
"Besides, I don't want to think about that sort of stuff right now after what just happened with Jin. I just want to have peace and quiet for a change." You said as you reached your apartment and punched the code. Jungkook didn't say anything anymore and dropped the subject. He somehow agrees with what you said. After what you have been through for the past few weeks, you still need time to heal. But still, at the back of his mind, he really can't deny the fact that his teacher became a different person the moment he saw you. He shook off the idea for the meantime and went inside the apartment.
//
It's already the weekend and you were awakened by the ray of light that suddenly hit your face the moment Jungkook violently opened the curtains.
"Rise and shine, noona!"He shouted. You groaned and slowly turned your face away from the light that almost blinded you and buried yourself underneath your blanket. Jungkook just smiled and jumped towards your bed making him almost crash into you.
"Come on, noona! The weather is nice today! Let's go to the mall. I need to buy some stuff for school." The maknae shook you violently a couple of times before earning another groan from you, but you didn't get out of the covers.
"Go away, Jungkook! I want more time to sleep. The mall won't open for a few more hours. If you're hungry, I bought a lot of cereals and bread yesterday, go stuff yourself." You fumed groggily under the sheets, but the boy was so entertained that he decided to pester you more by whining for you to get up.
"Oh my gosh, Jungkook! If you don't give me at least 20 more minutes of sleep, I will torture you in my dreams!" You hissed as you sat up on your bed and threw dagger look towards his direction. Then you heards a faint click and Jungkook started laughing.
"What the-" But you managed to control your words before you were able to utter any profanity in front of Jungkook. You exhaled heavily. Jungkook immediately jumped out of your bed before you could even decide what to do with him.
"I'll give you your 20 minutes, noona. After that, you'll have to cook me breakfast. If you don't I'll send this picture to Mr.-" He wasn't able to finish his sentence as one of your pillows flew towards his direction missing him with just an inch as he ran out of your room. You just shook your head out of grievance as you flopped back into your pillows and attempted to get back some extra Z's but eventually failed. You ended up turning and tossing on your bed since your senses were already fully awake.
You gathered up the will to get out of bed despite fighting the desire to lie down for a few minutes. You already got up from the bed but jumped right back in as the door swung open and Jimin's head suddenly popped out of the doorway, startling you.
"Good morning, noona!" He greeted you charmingly as he stepped inside your room and slowly walked towards you.
"What the heck, Jimin!" You got off your bed and threw a playful punch on his shoulder making him whimper a little as he rubbed the place you hit.
"That's for scaring the hell out of me at this hour." You stuck out your tongue towards him and he laughed. "What the hell are you doing here anyway so early in the morning?" You asked as you yawned. He said nothing and just smiled at you.
"The spoiled maknae is already asking for your presence in the kitchen as he is already hungry and is waiting to be fed." Jimin comically narrated as he turned and walked away from your room with you on tow. You were still grunting under your breath about how you wanted to spend the weekend doing things around the house a bit later when you got the surprise of your life. The table was already set and Namjoon emerged from the kitchen carrying a pot of soup. You sat on your usual spot on the table and waited for them to lay all the food down before settling in.
"Did you think that after waking you up that way, I will let you suffer further just to feed me?" Jungkook smiled sweetly at you. For the first time that day, you actually smiled.
"We haven't even showed you our surprise yet, but just by looking at you, it seems our plan to make you smile worked." Namjoon beamed.
"Surprised?" Jimin excitedly asked while Jungkook removed the lid of the pot he just settled on the table. Your eyes widened in surprise when he revealed your favorite dish, Tteokguk (Rice Cake Soup). You just nodded in excitement. It was the dish Jin always cooks for you on special occasions or when you need cheering up. A slight pain pinched your heart as you recall that memory. You never expected that the boys will prepare this for you to cheer you up just like how Jin used to do it and you were deeply touched.
"Aww, you cooked my favorite dish." You took your spoon and dipped it in the pot to get a sample of the soup. Both Jimin and Jungkook looked at you with anticipation as you tasted the soup. Your eyes shot up causing both the boys to lean more further towards you waiting for you to respond. The soup was actually not bad at all. A bit saltier than what Jin usually prepares, but it was actually good for a first timer.
"It's that bad, huh?" Jungkook sadly said as he hung his head low thinking he failed in his surprise.
"No. Actually, it's quite good, that's why I'm surprised." You assured him as you took another spoonful of broth and shove it in your mouth. Namjoon did the same, but the moment he sipped the broth, his face changed to something you couldn't decipher. You gave Namjoon a little kick on the leg making him jump a little and mumble a faint 'Ow'. He looked at you curiously. You secretly glared at him and hoping that he will get the idea that you don't want to disappoint the boys. He just smirked and continued eating.
"Jin hyung was the best cooking teacher. Scary, but good." Jimin said happily as he also took a sip of the soup he and Jungkook slaved in cooking.
"Thanks for cooking me breakfast. Anyway, why are you guys here in the apartment so early in the morning?" You said as you took a bite of your food.
"I actually need to go somewhere later to buy some stuff Yoongi hyung and I need for the studio and I invited these two to join me since the others are pretty busy with their work. And Jungkook mentioned you need some cheering up, so we decided to tag you along." He said in between bites.
"Aww, that's so sweet of you. I would love to tag along. I need to get some clothes as well for work." You said excitedly.
"Then it's settled, then. We'll be leaving after breakfast!" Jungkook said excitedly.
While Jimin and Jungkook slaved away in cleaning the kitchen and washing the dishes since it makes sense that Namjoon stayed away from there to avoid breaking anything. You on the other hand, washed up and got ready for your adventure with the boys. You boarded the train and headed to where Namjoon needs to get his equipment. And after that, the two younger ones dragged all of you to Myeongdong area for the shopping spree.
The four of you spent almost half of the day sweeping every store in Myeongdong area when finally Namjoon gave up and suggested to grab something to eat and all of you searched for a good restaurant to rest your tired feet. After playing a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Namjoon decided that all of you will eat in a famous ramyeon restaurant a few blocks away from Myeongdong station.
The restaurant was almost secluded as it is located on a dead end street. The moment you walked in, you were greeted with walls and ceilings plastered with small papers with testimonials written by people who enjoyed their meal and experienced great service in the said establishment. You and the boys were lucky enough to get a table in the middle part of the restaurant. After placing your orders, you looked around as you gaped at how cozy and warm the restaurant is. Namjoon is really good at finding the best places to eat and hang out.
You're still marveling the entirety of the restaurant when your eyes accidentally fell into the booth near corner window and you suddenly went stiff. You couldn't believe your bad luck. Soyeon is having a good time with the same guy that you saw almost a week ago in a cafe. They were so into each other, laughing on whatever stories they're sharing. The sight repulsed you so much that it made you clench your fist to control your anger towards the girl. How can this girl have the time of her life with another person when her boyfriend is somewhere working? You even wonder if she cares where he is. You wanted to approach her and humiliate her, but then, you remembered your promise to yourself that you don't want to get involved in anything that involves Jin and Soyeon. You snapped back to reality when you felt someone shake your shoulders.
"What?" You answered absent-mindedly and looked around the table. You saw the worried expressions of the boys. Then a gasp was heard beside you. It was Jimin. It was now his turn to stare at what you have been eyeing at earlier. Jungkook and Namjoon immediately looked at the direction where Jimin is looking at and was in time to see Soyeon sweetly wipe her date's lips with a tissue and gave him her sweetest smile. Furious with what he saw, Jungkook took out his phone and snapped a few pictures of Soyeon and her date. You can't take it anymore. Your heart is breaking seeing Soyeon cheat on Jin and you can't do anything.
"P-please have my food to go." You said to Namjoon as you stood up and walked out of the restaurant. Jungkook tried to stop you, but you were quick to leave the restaurant. Namjoon and Jungkook looked at you worriedly. Jimin on the other hand, also stood up from his seat.
"Make mine to go as well." He said in a hurry as he ran after you leaving the two to handle Soyeon on their own.
Namjoon and Jungkook was beyond enraged on what they have witnessed. After asking the server to make yours and Jimin's food to go, the two decided to walk towards where Soyeon and her date was seated and confronted her while her date went out to talk to someone over the phone. Soyeon went pale the moment she saw the two standing next to her table.
"Aren't you extraordinarily pretty today." Namjoon greeted. Soyeon still in shock just stared at him.
"You're a sly one, aren't you?" Namjoon coldly smirked as he took a seat on where Soyeon's date sat on and furiously stared at her.
"W-what?" Soyeon nervously asked as she eyed both boys.
"Don't play dumb. We saw everything." Jungkook hissed as he slammed his fist on the table making Soyeon slide backward. She knew from the expression that she is getting from the two boys, she can't get away this time.
"You have the guts to mess up our 'family' for your selfish reasons then you would go and stab our hyung behind his back. How do you even sleep at night?" Namjoon sneered as he leaned forward the table to get a better view of a nervous Soyeon who is looking at her date, still talking over the phone.
"Look, I'm-" She started but was cut off.
"Don't you even dare say you're sorry because from what I saw earlier, you were not. You were having a grand time flirting with your date." Jungkook interrupted making Soyeon shut up.
"Please don't tell Jin about-" Once again, her plead was interrupted.
"Don't tell Jin hyung about it? Oh no, we won't just... yet. You will be the one to do it right NOW." Namjoon ordered.
"Right now?" Soyeon repeated nervously.
"Just make a call and tell Jin hyung that you want to talk about this little betrayal of yours. Tell him about your new guy. End everything with hyung tonight. After that, don't even bother showing your face to us ever again. AND don't you dare flake on this one 'cause I pictured you so well while wiping your date's lips earlier." Jungkook threatened as he dangle his phone in front of a now hopeless Soyeon. She was surprised on the proposal the boy offered to her, but she doesn't have any choice. He has evidence of her infidelity. She saw her date started walking back towards the restaurant and she doesn't want him to see the boys.
"I-i will do it. I promise. Just go, please." She stuttered as she nervously sraighten herself. Namjoon smirked at her. He knew she was already getting rid of them because the guy doesn't have an idea that Jin exists in Soyeon's life. He wanted to play with her for a bit more.
"But what if we want him to see us with you? You know you can't get rid of us that easily." He intimiated her. She just shook her head and pleaded.
"Please, don't. I promise to talk to Jin tonight." Namjoon stood up from the seat and was about to walk away when he turned back to Soyeon.
"By the way, Jin hyung already saw the photos. We sent it earlier before seeing you. He's just waiting for your call." With that, he gave her a two finger salute before walking away following Jungkook out of the restaurant.
//
"Noona?" Jimin's gentle voice called out to you as he knocked softly on your door. You have no where to go after that episode in the restaurant, so you just went straight home. You wanted to tell Jimin to leave you alone, but right now, with the heartache that you're still feeling, you needed someone to talk to. You sighed heavily as you slowly rose from your couch and drag yourself towards the door. Jimin's smiling face greeted you the moment you swung the door open.
"May I?" He asked permission to enter your apartment. You smiled weakly and nodded then invited him inside. You proceeded to your couch and hugged the pillow next to you. He was quiet for a moment as he try to assess the situation. You are just staring blankly at nowhere.
"I-is that what Jin hyung and you fought about a week ago?" He asked silently. You didn't look at Jimin but just nodded your head.
"He's the same guy that you saw with her that time?" Once again, you just nodded. Jimin just sighed.
"I guess hyung was too blinded to believe the truth. But why didn't you fight for it, noona?" You suddenly looked at him with a confused expression.
"Jimin, I don't know what else should I fight for. Whatever I say or do, it will not be enough. I'm tired, Jimin." You said.
"But why didn't you confront her? Are you that afraid of her?" He asked.
"I'm not afraid of her, Jimin." You looked down at the pillow you were hugging.
"But after what Jin told me the last time, I swore to myself I don't want to involve myself with them. I don't want to meddle and be blamed for something I'm not even capable of doing."
"But Jin hyung needs you now." Jimin defended.
"No. He doesn't! He made it perfectly clear that night. He can live his life without me." You cried. Jimin just stared at you not saying a word.
"That's not true, noona. He would need you now more than ever."
"But where was he when I needed someone? He pushed me away, Jimin." You tried to fight back your tears. Jimin was speechless for a moment beccause he knew you were right.
"I saw how hurt you were earlier when you saw Soyeon with that guy. You won't be affected if you don't feel anything for him."
"No, Jimin. I just feel sorry for him." You corrected him.
"Whatever feelings I have for him died the moment he shut the door between us. I just feel bad that this happened." Jimin just sighed. He doesn't know what else to say to convince you that shutting Jin out of your life would be a big mistake.
