VI
23:24, 16 April 2023When the adults and kids returned back into the jeeps they traveled in past this hour, they again moved. Now instead of continuing the tour they made their way back to the main building where's Hammond waiting for them along with Ellie when she gets there.
The only Jane can pray in is Ellie to be safe. In the end they're on island full of dangerous dinosaurs, carnivores or not and anything anytime can go wrong when you are not careful enough. Even a little small mistake can turn this island into surviving zone. Let's hope there's no such a person that would do something to put everyone in danger and they leave this island uninjured and happy, eager to appreciate this Park to be opened to public. Let's see how it goes.
Not a long after few thunders the rain started falling and turned into waterfall, fallen drops hitting seen through roofs of the jeeps and blurring their view to see outside. You can hardly see anything.
While sitting in the back seat on Lex's right and listening to the calmness of rain, Jane kept turning her raptor tooth necklace between her small fingers, bored out of her mind as her head rested against the window. Way to ruin the tour.
Jane loves the smell and calmness of rain, it's her favourite weather besides chilly sunny days, but at this moment she would like more of the sun shinning at them and giving them light they need to see what's happening around them.
"Do you believe dinosaurs had feathers and have a lot in common with todays birds?" Tim suddenly poped his head from passenger seat to ask the younger Grant, the lawyer now sitting in drivers seat.
Her small fingers let go of the necklace to let it rest against her chest and lifted her head to answer the one year older boy. "Of course I do. If you'd see our research we are working on now in Montana, you would see and notice the similarities they share. Maybe like the raptor we've dug out not a long ago. My uncle even brought with himself a raptor claw I dug out few days ago." Tim's eyes widen with sparkles and interest, his sister overhearing their conversation and decided to join them.
"You dig skeletons? Like real bones of dinosaurs that died?" Lex eyes told Jane that she's the first person in young age that likes to dig skeletons and fossils Lex ever knew. Jane smiled at the thought of the skeleton waiting for them in Montana. They left it to their coworkers to take care of while Alan, Ellie and Jane went into this park.
"Yeah, and fossils as well. When I finish school, I want to be paleontologist like my uncle. Or care taker of carnivore animals." Lex's face cringed in disgust when Jane mentioned carnivores. Quite the opposite of Lex. Apart from his sister, Tim grinned.
"Cool."
"I hate carnivores." Lex turned her gaze from the two children on her right, trying to cover the shiver that ran down her spine at the thought of meat and blood.
"Thought so when you said you're a vegetarian. I admire that." Jane grinned at the older girl from whom she recieved one back. Suddenly the jeep they're sitting in jerks into stop and the four look around confused.
"What did you touch?" After a long time of not speaking the lawyer turned his head to Tim, thinking Tim touched something he shouldn't and made the car stop. For some reason it angered the youngest girl. How dare he blame him.
"He didn't touch anything. Maybe it's you who touched something and stopped us god knows where." It's not often for Jane to get angry and snap at someone to defeat someone else, especially when she knows them less than 24 hours. The lawyer looked offended hearing a child speak to him back with that tone and was about to say something but Lex beat him to it.
"No, it stopped by itself. Dr. Grant and Dr. Malcolm stopped as well." The other three looked the way Lex did and through the rain tried to see the jeep Alan and Ian are in. And like Lex said, they stood there in one spot behind them. It's like the power went out. Let's hope not.
The door into drivers seat opened and Alan peeked his head in.
"Are you guys alright? Is your radio out too?" Alan looked around at each of them then checked the radio to find out it's out as well.
"What do you think caused us to stop?" Lex asked, looking nervously around.
"I would like to know that too. Let's just wait. I'm sure we'll move soon again. You alright there, Jay?" Alan lifted his gaze to his niece, who's looking outside the window unsure. She faced away from them, not letting them see the face she's making when she realized they stopped in front of T-rex's paddock. Whatever stopped the jeeps, Jane don't like it. A feeling something bad is about to happen crawled her back and seated itself in her chest.
"All good, uncle. Let's only hope Ellie is safe." Turning back away from the window, she forced her face to look assuring and that was enough for Alan to pull his head back out and shut the door to run back to Malcolm. The niece sighed, wondering what's about to happen.
If she only knew.
🦖
"Boo!" Tim jumped from his seat beside the lawyer with a big binoculars like hanging on his smaller head, startling everyone in the car.
"Hey, where did you find those?" The lawyer asked the boy, annoyed.
Tim lifted it from his head, holding it in his small hands. "In the box, under my seat."
"Are they heavy?"
"Yeah."
"Then they're expensive. Put them back." Jane rolled her eyes at the lawyer and his obsession with money. His ass is expensive.
"Ignore him. His bald head is expensive." The girl leaned to Tim's ear and whispered to him, on purpose louder than you'd want. However it seems the man decided to ignore her comment or just didn't caught it when he made himself comfortable and closed his eyes.
With grin Tim crawled over the seats Lex and Jane sit in and into the back, his sister smacking him with her cape. Jane wonder what it would be if she ever had a sibling. Alan would probably lost his mind if he'd had to take care of two kids. They would be probably obsessed with dinosaurs as much as Jane is, or not. Who knows what they would be like if Jane had a sister or brother.
Her throat started to feel dry and so she went to reach for the glass of water that is put in front of passenger seat, however she stopped in middle of her actions when she noticed the water shake every two second. It's like something heavy and big is shaking the ground and so sending little waves in that little of water. She can even feel it. Jane began to grow nervous, remembering where they are and the power is still out.
"Everything is shaking." Tim statted and Jane would comment "yeah, no shit." if it was the right time to but it isn't. Jane sat back in her seat, trying to calm her already rapid heartbeat.
"What is it?" Jane locked eyes with the other girl, knowing she's scared to her toes. Hell, she's not surprised. Then she remembered the goat that was supposed to bring T-rex's attention and turned towards the window, trying to spot the poor goat. It should be there, but it isn't. The only that's left is the rope it was tied to.
"Where's the goat?" Right after Lex asked that, something hit the roof above them.
"Here." Jane breath out, the only she can do in this moment. They gasped when blood poured from the goat's leg and got lost in drops of the rain. This only means the T-rex is here.
From behind the goat's leg the 7-year-old caught a movoment. Two giant claws dragged down the fence that's still without power. Jane gasped once again when head of her favourite dinosaur rised from behind leaves, eating and swallowing rest of the goat. She don't know if she should be amazed she really sees a living tyrannosaurus rex or be afraid for their safety as she has easy way to escape her paddock. And that's exactly what she's doing right now.
The lawyer opened the door to his seat and ran away towards toilets, leaving the kids alone. Well, he looked like about to shit himself.
"He left us. He left us." Lex breath out frightened. The fence started cracking and groaning when T-rex broke through it. And Jane gaped amazed when she let out her mighty roar.
"Don't move. She can't see what's not moving." The younger Grant informed the other kids what Alan taught her. If they don't move, the T-rex can leave them alone and they have a chance to survive. Nevertheless Lex ignored her advice and opened briefcase that was hidden in the back and took out flashlight, turning it on.
"Turn it off! Turn it off, Lex!" Tim and Jane rushed to Lex and tried to turn it off. Unsuccessfully. Tim went to shut the car door the lawyer left open when he ran away, the shut sound bringing T-rex's gaze at them. They froze, Lex's stupid flashlight pointed at the dinosaur and blinded her when she lowered her head to look into Lex's window.
This time Jane held her ears like the two siblings when T-rex once again roared, louder this time. Lex and Tim pushed themself away from left side of the car where the tyrannosaurus lowered her head, Lex squishing Jane between herself and car door.
The t-rex used her snout to nudge the car, scaring the kids and making them scream. A thought these are the last moments of her life flashed through Jane's mind, her heartbeat rapid. She grabbed Lex's flashlight and tried to turn it off, unfortunately the switch seems to be stuck. This can happen only to her. Great. Note the sarcasm.
"Hurry! Turn it off!" Tim shouted, jumping into their seat and trying to turn it off as well.
"I'm trying, dammit!" Even in the situation they're in Jane couldn't help and snapped at Tim. They finally managed to switch the flashlight off, right after a slight growl sounded from above them. When they looked up, the tyrannosaurus broke the seen-through roof with her snout, trying to get to the kids. The only that separate them is the broken roof. They can see inside her mouth and all the teeth, frightening the two older kids.
The t-rex finally pulled her snout away, knowing it's waste of time and rather decided to flip the car upside down. Because the roof is broken, mud stained their clothes. Jane's once blue denim overal and old-pink tshirt turned brown. She liked her clothes. What a shame.
The three kids tried escape through the little space they had, but to their luck the t-rex had to step on the jeep, trapping them. This isn't how Jane imagined she will die. She expected like losing mind over Owen's stupidity or die riding a motorbike, not her fav dino specie squishing them to death or eating them.
"Hey!" A voice called and Jane looked up, watching her uncle wave with flare in his hand and then throw it aside, the t-rex following it. If it would be a time Jane would roll her eyes at Ian stupidity when he waved the same flare, catching dinosaur's attention. And she followed him when he ran. Let's hope he survive. Meanwhile Alan went to rescue the kids.
"Dr. Grant! Dr. Grant!"
"Uncle!" They called when Alan kneeled by the car and tried to reach them. Lex was the closest and he helped her out.
"I'm stuck! The seat's got my feet!" Jane tried to help unstuck Tim's feet from under a seat, but no attempt.
"Tim! Jay!" Jane's uncle called for them, trying to see them through the little space. Right after Lex screamed and Alan went to shut her mouth up.
"Don't move. He can't see us if we don't move." Jane heard her uncle say what she told the kids before, keeping herself from calling 'it's female'. She can only assume the t-rex is trying to see them, although her vision can't see them and decided to move with the jeep her and Tim are still in. Tim screamed when the teeth and jaw of t-rex came into their sight, trying to get to them. She kept nudging and pushing the car, sending it to the edge.
"Tim, grab my hand!" Tim did as was told and pull out his arm, trying to reach hers but they're too far, a small gap between their fingers. However it was too late when the t-rex pushed the jeep completely and they started falling down, the younger Grant falling out the car and somewhere else. The only she felt is pain, hitting every branch she meet through her way down when she finally landed on the muddy ground. The last Jane caught is the t-rex's roar and then darkness.
