01:52, 5 April 2023A plate was placed on the table where Jane sat. She gave the food judging look, not finding it looking twice times good. She don't even wanna know what it contains. Her and Ellie shared a disgusted look, deciding to ignore how it looks and try it at least. Like people say, don't judge book by it's cover.
"None of these attractions are ready yet, but the park will open with the basic tour you are about to take, and the other rides will come on-line six or twelve months after that. Absolutely spectacular designs. Spared no expense." While poking the wierd looking food Jane listened to the conversation adults have and shut her eyes to not let them see her rolling eyes at the lawyer and his obsession with money.
"Donald, let him talk. There's no reason, I want to hear every viewpoint." Hammond stopped the lawyer from interrupting Ian and gave him room to give his opinion.
"Don't you see the danger, John, inherent in what you're doing here? Genetic power's the most awesome force the planet ever seen but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun. If I may. I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power you're using here. It didn't require any discipline to attin it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourself so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could. And before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunch box, and now you're selling it." Jane jumped when Ian started hitting the table, putting down the fork as she hadn't even put anything into her mouth and won't. She's picky person when it comes to food.
"I don't think you're giving us our due credit. Our scientists have done things which nobody has ever done before."
"Yeah, yeah. But your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could they didn't stop to think if they should." The black clothed man continued giving his opinion, pointing out every thing he's thinking and explaining it. Jane zoned out into her thoughts, thinking about what's still expecting them on this island and what could possibly go wrong. She was snapped out of it when her uncle snapped his fingers before her eyes, bringing her back. He was about to ask her something but Hammond was sonner after Ellie gave her opinion.
"Dr. Grant. If there's one person who could appreciate what I am trying to do." The Grant niece and uncle shared a look.
"The world has just changed to radically and we're all running to catch up. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but dinosaurs and man , two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slighest idea what to expect?" After Alan's opinion, Hammond look like he's offended.
"I don't believe it. You're mean to come here and defend me against these characters and the only one I've got on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer." Everyone heard the sarcasm in Hammonds voice but it seems the lawyer did not.
"Thank you." Jane facepalmed at this man.
"And what about you, Jane, what do you think about this park?" Jane was surprised when Hammond shifted his attention to her and asked for her opinion. That's for first time someone care about what is a kid thinking beside Alan and Ellie. Ready to tell her thoughts out loudly, she had no time to even open her mouth to talk as a man came into the room and to Hammond, whispering something to him.
Hammond smiled happily and stood up. "Be happy, Jane. You won't be the only young one between adults anymore." Everyone looked around confused, however no one is as confused as Jane is. She hope he don't mean what she thinks he mean.
🦕
"You four are gonna have a spot of company out in the park. Spend a little time with our target audience." The five followed Hammond down the stairs, still as confused when they left the room.
"Grandpa!" Jane froze in her steps when she heard the kids' voices. No, please no.
"Kids!" Two kids, a girl and a boy came running up the stairs and threw themself around Hammond, making the old man lost his balance and fall but his laugh never died. So this is what Hammond meant when he said she's not gonna be only child among the adults.
"This can't get any worse." The youngest girl breath out, staring at the kids hugging Hammond who they discovered is their grandfather and hiding the annoyance she has every time a new kid comes around. Because it always end the same way. If she has to spend her time at this park with these two kids, her plan is to ignore them or avoid them.
First she accidentaly inject herself with something, then someone shut her chance to give her opinion and then this. Kids. The only person that is smiling is Ellie, even Ian has frown on his face. When the boy looked up and saw Jane frowning at them, she hid behind Alan. Less contact with the kids then better. Jane and her uncle shared a look, thinking the same.
🦖
When they walked out the main building, two green-yellow jeeps came and stopped in front of them. The two kids, who Jane found out their name is Tim and Lex, ran around and into the jeep with excitement and spark in eyes. Jane watched them with judging eyes.
"These will be your transports for the afternoon." Hammond told them. Jane walked behind Lex and looked inside when the older girl opened the door, noticing no one is sitting behind the wheel. She looked into the second jeep and no driver again.
So she turned her head to Hammond. "Who's driving?" Hammond came to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, not noticing the way she jumped and made uncomfortable face. There are few people she allow to touch her, allowing Ian because she's growing used to him but not to Hammond. He may be kind man but that doesn't mean she trust him enough to let him touch her.
"No drivers. They're electric. They run on this track in the middle of the roadway here. Totally non-polluting. Top of the line. Spared no expense." The old man said mostly to the lawyer when he and others came to look at what Hammond is talking about. Jane felt a large hand grab her smaller hand and pull her to them and away from Hammond's touch. She looked up at her uncle, giving him thankful nod. He know about her issues.
"Lex, you're all right in there. Dr. Sattler, come with me. Dr. Grant, come in the second car." Hammond said out loud and Jane went to follow Ellie into the second car, sitting in driver's seat. She let out a long tired sigh, leaning into her seat and relaxing for a while.
"So what do you think of Lex and Tim?" Ellie turned to the girl she sees as her own niece and grinned when Jane gave her annoyed look.
"I'm thinking about what did I do wrong to deserve energetic kids having around me. You know how kids are around me and I for 100% know these two aren't any different. Sooner or later they start asking me questions and find me wierd." Ellie laughed at Jane's rampling and throwing hands everywhere possible, finding it funny how much alike she is with her uncle. If Ellie didn't know Alan and Jane, she would think they're father and daughter.
"Oh, come on." Ellie whinned. "I don't think they are that bad. Maybe if you get to know them you will find out you have a lot in common. Try to give them a chance." Jane thought about Ellie's words, admiting she can't judge someone without getting to know them but her stubbornes got better of her and didn't change her mind.
"You're right. But don't expect me to get all friendly with them. It's for few days, after this we will never see again. Thank god." The last few words Jane said to herself, putting her palms together and like praying to god. Ellie laughed again. Suddenly Lex opened the door to Ellie's seat and stopped when she saw Dr. Sattler and Jane there.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I just thought I could sit with you." Not bothering to hide her irritation, Jane rolled her eyes. Her eyes caught her uncle talking to the Tim boy, Lex's younger brother, and smirked when an idea poped in her head.
"Hey, Lex. My uncle really loves kids and I'm sure he would be glad if you sit in the same car as him." In her head Jane is laughing her butt off at the older girl's reaction. She really does believe what Jane told her. Ellie scanned Jane's face and caught up with her.
"She's right. Go and tell him you wanna sit with him." The only reason Ellie agrees to play along with Jane is to make fun of Alan and annoy him.
"Alright." At this Lex closed the door and walked to Alan. Jane and Ellie watched Alan close door in Tim's face and turn around to Lex, who stood behind him and is playing with her braid. She told him something and Alan looked up into the front of second car at his niece and woman he adore giggling, shaking his head at them.
The door into back seats closed and Ian leaned forward between the two females. "You are evil, you know that?" He tried to give her serious look but not even him can't hide that amused smile. Jane giggled again, tilting her chin up to show how proud she is of herself.
"Yes, I do. There has to be a reason why they call me troublemaker in school." Ian laughed, pulling her cap down playfully and she pulled it back up, fixing her dirty blonde hair. The door to driver seat where Jane sits opened, revealing one and only Alan.
"You are going with the kids. Out." Alan gestured with his head to the first jeep, where the lawyer, Lex and Tim are sitting. Jane frown with crossed arms.
"You can't make me. Hey!" Oh, he did. Alan rolled his eyes and picked her up from her seat, placing her down when he closed the door and blocked it so she can't enter.
"I'm not asking you, Jay. They are kids of your age, I'm sure you will understand each other very well." With crossed arms over his chest Alan stood tall, Jane mimicking his actions.
"No, we won't, and you know it." Both Grants can hear the two laughing inside the jeep. Alan sighed, remembering the times when his younger brother was alive and used to be very stubborn at making friends. Jane maybe recieved her mother's looks, but her green eyes and character is very much alike as her father's.
"You can't live with no friends, Jay. If you continue push every kid away, you'll stay forever alone. Owen-" The man with hat and blue shirt was cut of by the smaller girl with dark blue cap.
"I became friends with Owen only because we both are being bullied in school and-whups." Jane's eyes widen when she realized how far she's going, cutting herself off mid sentence and covering her mouth. Slowly shifting her eyes up at her uncle, Alan held unbelievable look like she just broke a fossil he found.
"What do you mean being bullied in school, Jane?" Oh no. It's no good when Alan uses her name and not nickname. It happens rarely but when he does, he's not twice times happy.
"Ummm, nothing important. You know, I think I will sit with Lex and Tim in the end." She started slowly backing away with nervous look and hands held behind back, however when Alan made a step towards her she turned and sprint to the front car and opened driver's door, jumping inside and shutting it before Alan could get in. She held the handler, pulling it to her. With nervousness in her eyes she watched her uncle bang his hand against the car, in the end pointing at her and saying "We will talk about this later, young lady." before returning to the jeep where Ellie and Ian are sitting. Jane sighed in relief, relaxing her back.
"I thought you wanted to sit with Dr. Sattler." Lex asked the younger girl, confused look on both her and Tim's face. Jane didn't look at them, only sighed again at the thought of having a serious talk with her uncle. It will be hard to explain.
"Change of plan."
