Chapter 47

02:18, 29 March 2020

The week went by slow. There was barely a few words uttered from anyone. It was just one of those times that no one felt like talking. Meanwhile, Leslie was getting ready for her night out with Amber.

"Should I tell her?" Leslie asked, fixing her hair in the mirror.

"Tell her what?" Kim poked her head out from the kitchen.

"You know..."

"I know a lot of things." Kim said, being a smartass.

"I mean about being lesbian."

"That's up to you. Not to mention the fact that you got artificially inseminated."

"I am NOT bringing that up! At least not until I know her better."

"Do you like her?"

"Yeah, I guess you could say that."

"As a friend or something else?"

"She's pretty, her accent is to die for and her backside ain't too bad lookin either."

They both laughed.

"Well I think you should at least tell her the part about you liking girls. I'm sure she'll like you for you."

"I hope so."

"Is she picking you up or are you meeting her?"

"She's picking me up in about ten minutes."

"You need to go smokey on the eyes."

"Kim, I practically used half this eyeliner pencil." She said, holding it up.

"Sit your behind down in this chair. That's an order." Kim pointed to the chair.

Leslie huffed and sat down.

Kim put four layers of mascara on Leslie's eyes, making her eyelashes longer than normal.

"Now that is hot." Kim peeked out the window to see Amber's car pull in. "Your date's here." She joked and went back into the kitchen.

Leslie fixed her hair one last time before opening the door. On the ride to the movies, Amber lowered the music.

"Listen Les, there's something I need to get off my chest."

"What is it?"

"Promise you won't laugh?"

"Promise."

"I'm into girls."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Me too!"

A smirk came across Amber's face. "You know, we don't have to make this night a friends thing."

"I was just thinking that."

"How about we make this a date instead?"

"Sounds good to me."

Hannah got off the couch slowly when she heard another knock at the door. Standing there was a girl, dark brown hair down to her shoulders.

"Mama! There's a lady at the door! And she looks just like you!"

Kim wiped her hands off on the towel hanging off the stove. She walked into the living room, Hannah pointed to the front door.

"Stephanie?!" She screamed with excitement and they both hugged.

"Who's this mama?"

"This your auntie Stephanie."

"How come I never met her before?"

"She's been away at school. I haven't seen her in what, ten years now?"

"It's been about that."

"How did everything go?"

"I have my nursing degree and I applied for a job at Chicago Med."

"That's amazing, I'm happy for you."

"Thanks."

Hannah crawled into Kim's lap and hugged her.

"Who's this cutie?" Stephanie smiled at her.

"This your niece, Hannah."

"I'm five years old." Hannah held up five fingers.

Brayden came running in from outside, dirt covered hands and face. "Mama! Look what I found!" He held up a worm.

"Gross! Get it out of here!" She leaned back into the couch.

"I'll go show daddy!"

Adam was in the garage working on his car.

"Daddy, look what I found!" Brayden ran over to him, the worm wriggling in his hands.

"Did you scare mommy with it?"

"Yeah I did. She screamed."

They both laughed. A red convertible came pulling in, Justin Timberlake blaring from the speakers.

"Auntie Ally is here." Adam said.

"Hey Adam, dinner ready yet?" She asked as she got out of the car.

"Almost. Kim's inside with Hannah if you wanted to go say hi."

Stephanie looked up when Ally walked in.

"Who's this?" Ally asked.

"This is my sister, Stephanie. Stephanie, this is my sister in-law, Ally."

They shook hands. "Sister in-law? Don't you usually have to be married to have one of those?"

"I've been married only a few months actually."

"How did you meet?"

"I think you'll need popcorn for that one."

All of them laughed.

"I met him back when I was ten years old. Mom and dad signed me up for this summer camp. He was a jerk at first, but as the summer went along, he became nice and we became friends. After that summer, I didn't see him again for sixteen years."

"Mama's always telling everyone how cute he was then and how hot he is now." Hannah told her.

Kim's face turned beat red as she put a hand over Hannah's mouth.

The door that lead to the garage swung open. Adam came walking in. Stephanie's eyes nearly bugged out of her head.

"You were right, he IS hot!" Stephanie blurted out loud.

"Did you tell them I was hot?" He crossed his arms.

"Nope." She lied, smirking.

While watching a movie after dinner, the six of them fell asleep in the living room. Kim's phone started going off, so she got up to answer it.

"Hello?" She yawned into the phone.

"It's me."

"Leslie?"

"Yeah."

"What's up?"

"Are you awake?"

"I am now."

"Well...Amber's drunk out of her freaking mind and I don't have a ride home."

"I thought you guys went to see a movie?"

"We went to a movie, had dinner and then decided to go out for a drink after. I had seltzer."

"Why can't you drive?"

"She won't tell me where the keys are."

"Alright, I'm on my way." Kim pressed the end button and put her phone in her pocket. She sleepily threw on her boots and a sweatshirt, heading out into the cold night.

"Let's go." Leslie said, grabbing Amber's arm and attempted to drag her outside.

"Hey...no...I was having fun..." Amber slurred.

"This may have been your idea of fun, but if Voight finds out you got drunk, your ass is getting placed in another unit. I'm not going to let you screw this up. Do you hear me?!"

"Yeah yeah yeah."

Amber picked up her glass of beer, but Leslie put it back down on the bar. "I don't think so. Let's go."

Amber couldn't stand on her own two feet, so Leslie had to hold her up. "You need to learn what control is before you step into that office on Monday. If he finds out about this, your career is done."

"I wanted to have a fun night, it's not like I got drunk at the district."

After helping her in the car, Kim could feel anger building up inside her. She refused to start the car and told Leslie to not say a word to anyone. She looked in the backseat at Amber.

"Listen here, Alvarez. This isn't the city to be getting drunk or high as hell. Screwing around will get you fired and out of Chicago."
