Chapter 16

07:06, 31 March 2017

Once they were outside, she started getting antsy and demanded he put her down. He did as he was told to avoid any conflict.

"I don't need to go to the hospital. I'm fine." She protested.

"Don't even try it, Kim. I want you to at least get checked out, please."

"I'm fine."

"You're barely conscious, you're going to the hospital."

"I'm driving myself." She tried getting in the front seat.

"I don't think so." He ripped the keys out of her hands and got in the front seat.

"If I need a full exam, I'm going to kill you." She pouted. All he did was laugh at her.

Luckily for her, there was nothing broken or fractured. It was mostly bruises and cuts. She had to take antibiotics from the cut on her face, but that was it.

"I'm going back to work." Kim insisted as they left the hospital.

"Like hell you are. You're going home. Come on."

"Adam, I'm fine."

"Well then let's go see what Voight thinks of that one."

They got back to the district and walked upstairs.

"What are you doing here? I told you to take the rest of the day off."

"I'm fine." She sat down at her desk. He went to say something, but Adam stopped him.

"Don't bother."

"I'm going to trust you on this one. But if she passes out from her injuries, you'll be taking the fault."

"Got it." He said as he sat back down at his desk.

Kim was furiously scribbling something down on the yellow pad of paper on her desk.

"Whoa, slow your role there." He grabbed her arm.

"Let go of me." She said to him, with a scary look in her eyes.

"You need to calm down. You've had a very stressful morning."

She threw the pen down on her desk in an angry huff, grabbed her coat and stormed outside. He looked up and Hank motioned for him to follow her. He grabbed his coat and headed down the stairs. She was in her car down in the parking garage. Adam knocked on the window, she rolled it down.

"Will you get out and talk to me please?"

She rolled her eyes and got out of the car. Not saying a word, she looked away.

"Please, talk to me. You can tell me anything."

She instantly broke down.

"It's okay." He pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back.

"I thought I was going to die and the thought of us not being together anymore...it was just too much to bare." She said as she looked up at him with tear filled eyes.

"Well...we never really were together." He added, not wanting to put any awkwardness into the situation.

"You know what I mean. It was just...horrible."

He lifted her chin up. "That will never happen. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere."

"You really mean that?"

"I do." He smiled at her and then leaned in for a kiss.

"Maybe I should take the rest of the day off."

"You should. Sarge already said I could take it off too to be with you."

"He doesn't suspect anything, does he?"

"Not at the moment anyway."

"He has nothing to worry about."

He turned away, hurt by the words that came out of her mouth.

"What's wrong?"

"It's nothing."

"No, tell me."

"I waited all these years to see you one more time. You meant a lot to me then and you mean the same to me now. I was kind of hoping..."

"Hoping what?"

"That we could start a real relationship."

"I would love that." She got a big grin on her face.

"Are we both on the same page with not telling Voight?"

"Well duh." She said.

They both laughed. He was informed about her plans to go with Leslie and the other's to Molly's that night for drinks, and asked if he was allowed to come. She told him he was more than welcome.

"Hey Kim, over here!" Gabby waved and they walked over. It seemed like everyone from fifty one and twenty one where there, it was so full of people. Kim sat down next to Leslie. Gabby gave Adam a dirty look. He gave her one right back.

"Ruzek.""Dawson.""Ruzek.""Dawson.""Ruzek.""Dawson."

"Oh for Christ sake, will both of you shut up?!"

Leslie whacked them both in the back of the head. Adam felt his head to make sure there wasn't a bump forming.

"Bitch." He scoffed.

"Thanks."

The girls laughed.

"So are two like, an item now?" Sylvie asked, stirring her margarita.

"What? No way." They nervously laughed.

"You smell that?" Peter asked.

"Smell what?"

"It's crap."

Almost everyone burst into laughter.

"You better be quiet, Mills."

"Or what?"

"I'll show your little girlfriend there your baby pictures."

"And how would you have gotten those?"

"Your mother was my trainer at the academy."

"CRAP!"

"That's right." Kim said.

"Hey I'll be right back. I got to go make a phone call." Adam told them and headed outside.

Kim headed over to the bar and ordered another drink. There was a guy sitting next to her who sounded like he had one too many.

"Hey there pretty lady."

"Hi." She turned her head away so she wouldn't make eye contact.

"You're way too pretty to be here all alone."

"I'm not. I'm here with my friends."

"I don't see any friends near you."

"They're at the booth over there." She pointed behind her. He got up from his stool and sat on the one next to Kim.

"What's your name, sweetie?"

"None of your damn business, that's what it is."

"Hey, I'm just trying to make conversation. No harm in that is there?"

"No, but my name is none of your damn business."

"I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours."

"No deal. Now, get away from me."

"What did you say?"

"I said get the hell away from me, can you not hear or something?" She started getting angry.

"Come on, sweetheart. Let's have some fun. I got a place about two blocks from here. I'll make sure it's a real fun time."

"Let. GO." She yelled in his face.

Adam was walking back in and he looked up to see that. Kim breathed a sigh of relief. He grabbed the guy and pinned him against the bar.

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!" He screamed at him.

"Take it easy man. I was just looking for a fun night."

"WITH HER?! I DON'T THINK SO!" Adam started beating on him and threw him to the ground.

"DON'T TOUCH MY GIRLFRIEND!" He yelled before shoving him into the bar. It got really quiet. The only sounds were coming from the guy on the ground, who was groaning in pain. Someone in the neighborhood heard all the commotion and called the police. Camille showed up.

"Commander Voight, what the hell happened here?" She began questioning everyone in there with the help of officers. She took Adam into the kitchen to talk with him.

"What were you thinking?!" She sounded more annoyed, rather than angry.

"He was touching Burgess and I just freaked. I can promise you it will never happen again."

"It better not. Or I'll have your badge and your ass. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, Commander."

"Good. Now you get Burgess and get out of here. If you do, I'll say I don't know thing."

"Yes, Commander."

Instead of bringing her home, he brought her to his place.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, going into the kitchen.

"Not really." She sat down on the couch.

"You need to eat something. You skipped breakfast, you hardly touched your lunch and we didn't get a chance to eat at the bar."

"I'm too nervous to eat." She looked away.

"What are you worried about?"

"What would have happened to those kids if I hadn't found them."

"Don't let that get to your head. It's all over with." He pulled her close.

"I need some outlet for all this tension."

"Well I have an idea." He smirked.

"What would that be?"

"Like you don't already know." He put a hand on the lower part of her back.

"Oh I think I do." She ripped his shirt off and pushed him down.

"Right here? Why not my bedroom? It's more private."

"Good call."

An hour had passed. She snuggled with him and he wrapped his arms around her.

"Feeling better?" He kissed her head.

"Much."
