"T-Thanks for trusting me." She says giving me a smile. It wasn't her usual one though. It wasn't bright. It had a hint of sadness, as if she was trying to hide something really painful. Her face was bland as she turned away from me. "Yoonie-ah, is something wrong?" I ask. "Nothing.." She replies. Something's wrong. I can sense it.
"If something is wrong you can tell me, Sooyun." I tell her, trying to comfort her. "Did I say something which I shouldn't have?" She shakes her head and says. "No.. not at all.." She says with the same sad tone. I am convinced that something's up.
"Can't you trust me? I know that we haven't been friends for quite a long time, like, it has been 2 months, but I know you are hiding something." I tell her. "I shouldn't be talking about myself, you know. It makes me feel selfish." She says letting out a sad sigh.
"There is nothing wrong with talking about yourself, Sooyun."
"Nah.. believe me, if I start talking I won't stop, and at the end, like every person does, you will distance yourself from me because I'm such a emotional freak.." "If only you'd know that I can't leave you even if my life depended on it.." "What?" "Uhmm.. nothing! Now what were you saying?" "Leave it, Jungwoo. I am nothing more than a introverted wimp and a reckless good-for-nothing being. It is admirable how you are still friends with me. I am not used to having genuine friends you know-- sorry I said a lot.."
I could see tears flowing down her cheeks and with every tear I could feel my heart getting heavier. For some reason I felt the certain urge to give her a tight hug, and absent-mindedly, maybe I did as well. I shouldn't have, I know. I know that she hates hugs or any sort of skin-ship for that matter. But somewhere, I knew that is what she needed it more than anything else. I could see that she was trying hold the tears in. "Let it flow, Yoonie-ah, I am here. It's just me. You don't have to be strong always. It is okay to be emotional at times okay?" I stroke her hair as I feel her bury her head in my chest, crying her heart out. I could feel my heartbeat going faster than a treadmill.
After a while, Sooyun goes back, and wipes off her tears. "I-I'm sorry you had to see tha--" "I will forgive you once you tell me what's wrong. Trust me with it okay?" "Fine then.." And then she starts narrating.
Flashback (This part will be in Sooyun's POV)
As you know, I was born in Sydney, and my childhood wasn't blissful at all. My father would always be out for business, and barely had time to remember that he had a family.
"DAD! DAD! I GOT FIRST PLACE IN THE SPELLING QUIZ! DAD--" "SHUT UP SOOYUN! CAN'T YOU SEE I AM ON AN IMPORTANT CALL HERE?!" "But didn't you just come back from the US?" "Yes, Mr. Park please continue."
My mom? She was busy pursuing the dreams she had long left. To be a nurse. I am not saying that you shouldn't aspire, and I am definitely not saying that you should not be dreaming after having a family. But maybe, you can say, she forgot we existed.
"Mom! I got--" "Sooyun, can we talk after some time? I am talking to a friend of mine!" "But mom--" "Yeah? What about Sara? Jesus you are kidding me!"
My parents used to constantly fight and shout at each other, almost on the verge of divorce.
"SO NOW YOU THINK YOUR BUSSINESS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN I AM?!"
"LISTEN HERE SEJIN, I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOUR USELESS TALKS.."
"NOW EVEN MY WORDS ARE USELESS.. WOW!!"
"I SAID SHUT UP!!!"
The only people who have actually been there for me throughout were Chan and Felix.
"Sooyun, what happened?" "*crying* WHY DON'T MOM OR DAD EVER LISTEN?! WHY DON'T THEY EVER HAVE TIME FOR ME?!" "Don't cry Sooyun-ah.. I am here.. and I know that my talented sister got a gold for spelling! I don't care if mom or dad didn't listen, they never do, but me and Felix are here to celebrate with ya! Right Lix?" "Definitely! Let's go get some ice cream! Your treat though hyung.." "YA! I AM NOT BILLIONARE KID YOU KNOW!"
That was how my years in Sydney were.
When I was 12 we moved to Korea, and for once, I thought that, we would live like a normal family now. And things improved. Dad would be out almost every single month, and mom, now having received her degree was busier than ever. But fortunately the arguments stopped as Felix and his family moved in with us. My aunt, unlike my mom, works an office job, and knowing how busy my mom is, she took care of me and Chan like her very own kids. And I love her a lot. I sometimes even call her eomma. In fact, she is the one who has taught me Korean. I have a really strong bond with her. My dad's absence was also filled up, since my mom had started thinking a little about us kids.
As things were going well, I entered my senior middle school. I was 15 at that time I guess. That's when I met this guy. He was good looking and charming, in fact, and girls would die for him. We started to talk each other on alternate days, which turned into everyday, which further turned into every spare moment we got. Soon, I started growing feelings for him, because, no matter how cliché this might sound, it felt like he completed me, in a weird way.
One fine day, he said that he likes me, out of the blue. I eventually started dating him. For a month or two thing seemed fine, but after that I noticed a change in his behavior. He would fight for petty reasons and don't get me started on what all he used to call me.
"YAH! WHERE WERE YOU?!?! I HAVE CALLED YOU FOR LIKE THE 100TH TIME!!"
"Forgive me, it was my brother's birthday so--"
"SO?! YOU DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ME?! WHAT THE-- YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD FOR NOTHING GIRLFRIEND!!!"
It was toxic. Really toxic. Every time I would talk about breaking up, he would change the topic. I indeed felt good for nothing. I never told anyone cause I didn't want to burden other's for my struggles. But then he crossed the line.
One day, while I was hanging out with Felix, I saw him there, with one of my best friends..
Kissing.
That was it. That was the end of me. He had brainwashed me to think that I was a good-for-nothing wimp and he had hurt my self-worth. I guess..
You don't know who you are until you lose who you are. (A/N- Taylor Swift superiority)

And here I was, thinking that I was the only person with a difficult life.
I was feeling mixed emotions. Don't get me wrong, I was definitely not pitying her. In fact, I was feeling anything but pity. It just felt that I had went through that trauma she had. Her life was my life. Her happiness was my happiness. Her sorrow was my sorrow. I was feeling the same emotions as she would've or was feeling at the moment, or even back then.
But the most superior feeling out of all of them was anger. I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth. I would literally kill this Hyunwon guy if he were in front me right now. I would break his bones and cartilages alike. I would ruin him. Then a sudden thought came into my head. That scar on Sooyun's arm... (A/N- Scar on Scarlet.. dunno why it reminds me of Black on Black)
"Yoon, don't tell me that that scar on your arm--" She took a deep breath and nodded. And that just went past my anger containment level. "JUST GIMME THIS MANS ADRESS AND HE'LL BE IN HELL IN NO TIME I TELL YOU... YOU MAY BE A PATIENT SAGE BUT I AM NOT!! I WILL BREAK HIS BONES AND CARTILAGES SO WELL THAT HE WON'T BE ABLE TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THEM!! AND THEN, HE WILL REMEMBER FOR LIFE NOT TO MESS WITH A GIRL LIKE THAT, OH WAIT, HIS SKULL WOULD BE CRUSHED BY THE TIME HE GETS TO RECONSIDER... THAT JERK!! HOW DARE HE RAISE A FINGER AT MY SOOYUN--" "My Sooyun?"
Realization hits on what I just said. My Sooyun? Jeez, Jungwoo what's wrong with you?!
JW- I- uhhmm.. I meant.. uhmm.. MY FRIEND SOOYUN!! MY JUST FRIEND SOOYUN!!
SY- Wahh.. you friend-zoned me?
JW- Yes! I mean no! I mean, did I??!
"Calm down bub, did you drink Jaemin's coffee or something? And as for Hyunwon, that freak isn't worth my thoughts, I have forgot about him.. It is just that, when you said that you trust me, it me feel a particular way.. so yeah.. forgive for making this whole convo about myself. Damn, I feel like an idiot.." "Please don't, Yoon." If I could I'd listen to your voice every second of my life and keep on listening till I die. I added silently. But what I said to her is, ".. You just proved to me that you are the bravest girl I have ever seen.."
We stopped as we reached right in front of her house. "Are your mom or aunt home?" I ask, just to make sure she would be safe. "Nahh.. Uncle Tae would be here most probably.." "Oh okay. And also, I couldn't say it then but, tell you're uncle he is really good looking..."
"Thank you very much!"
We turn around to see Uncle Taemin approaching us. "Ohh-hh, hello sir.." I bow. "Hello there, what's your name again?" "Jungwoo. Kim Jungwoo. Pleasure!" I say lending my hand for a handshake, which he receives. "So you are Sooyun's.. boyfriend?" Did he just call me her boyfriend? "Uh-hh.. no! We are good friends, that's all.." Sooyun says. "Ohh.. close friends eh? Reminds me of that one time your mom had brought your dad to our place the first time, they were also in high school first year.." We look at each other, and shake our heads. "Well.. I think I have to leave now, it is getting late.. so yeah, I guess I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye!"
"Okay then. Bye!" She says as she walks towards the gate with Taemin, waving her hand. "Bye! See ya!" And the road felt empty, once again.
