Chapter IV

Chapter 4. Wow, about half way through the story already :/----------------------------------------------

I had been doing nothing but sitting by Mello's side for at least two hours now, Matt stayed for a little while, but he left a while back because he was busy.

I was busy myself, but Mello lying in hospital like this made me unable to concentrate on my job.

My fingers entwined with his, I stared at his heart monitor. His heart rate had returned to normal.

But I had hallucinated the monitor cutting off to zero earlier.

Am I going insane?

The only sounds I could comprehend was the sound of Mello's heart monitor and various other machines that I had no idea how they functioned.

And of course, the footsteps outside the hall. The doctor hadn't come by this morning so far.

I yawned. Although I went to bed early the previous night, I didn't fall asleep till about 3am.

I decided to rest my head on Mello's chest. Unlike yesterday, his body felt warm.

Heat radiated from his body as I listened to his heartbeat.

It was beating normally now. I closed my eyes and listening to it.

Minutes had passed, and then.

I felt something.

Someone placed their hand on my head, in a comforting way.

It was familiar, there was only one person I knew who did this.

I slowly lift my head up to meet the gaze of blue eyes. The eyes I missed looking into.

"MELLO!" I threw myself into the blonde's arms, he clutched onto me a little too tightly, but I didn't care.

I began to cry of happiness. "I thought I'd lost you..." I whispered.

"Shhh... I'm okay, I'm not going anywhere" he smiled while running his fingers through my (h/c) hair.

I hadn't realised how I've missed that voice so much till now.

"Oh, I'm glad to see your awake" the doctor smiled at Mello.

"W-why am I in a hospital?" He asked.

"You were involved in an explosive accident, your friend brought you here" he gestured over to me.

I appreciate your help Doctor, but am I allowed to go home today?" He asked.

The doctor nodded. "Yes, your burns are mostly healed and your levels are back to normal, just keep your burns as hydrated as possible" he said.

Mello nodded and began to sit up out of the bed. He stumbled but I wrapped his arm around my neck and my arm around his waist for support, this made my face go red.

And for an instant, I could have swore i saw a blush on his face, must have been the lighting of the room messing with me.

"I'm okay" he said. I nodded and backed away slightly so he could walk on his own.

"Let's go" Mello said to me while walking out the hallway, I nodded and followed after him.

*mini time skip*

"You brought my motorbike?" He asked looking at the familiar vehicle.

"Yeah, well... my bike broke down and-" he cut me off by getting on the bike and started the engine.

"Get on" he said, he didn't sound all that happy.

"O-okay" I got behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

And just like that, we sped down the road back to our apartment.

*time skip to apartment*

As soon as we got back, Mello closed the door behind me and said in an angry voice.

"Why did I wake up in the hospital (Y/n)?!" He yelled.

I cowered. "Mello... you were seriously injured and at the brink of dea-" I tried to explain but the enraged blonde cut me off.

"Do you have any idea what you've done!? What have I told you about government services (Y/n)?!" He yelled at me.

"I know, but... Matt. H-he made sure your identity and information was protected" I said out of fear.

"What?" He said with a lighter expression.

I could feel tears start to brim in my eyes, I didn't like getting yelled at, especially by the man I loved.

Seeing this, Mello walked up to me and pulled me into his warm embrace.

"I'm sorry, I should have known you wouldn't send me there without taking precautions, your smarter than that, you were the 4th smartest kid in Whammy's house after all" he apologised.

This caught me by shock, Mello very rarely apologised, I didn't even think 'sorry' was even apart of his vocabulary.

"Please don't cry..." he whispered while kissing my forehead.

"Mello... I-I want to tell you something..." it came out as a whisper.

This is it, I'm going to tell him.

"Yeah?" He said, not letting go.

But then the perfect moment was ruined when Matt walked in.

"Hey (Y/n)? You home ye-"

Matt came into the apartment and stopped mid sentence and Mello let go of me.

"Mello, good to see your okay" Matt came up and hugged Mello.

"Good to be back" he smiled. Returning the hug.
