[Secret new beginnings that became my religion]
One more year, cheerful laughs and welcome hugs surrounded the Great Hall. The little ones had already been sorted, all of the houses cheering and clapping every time a kiddo had joined them.
The famous trio was sitting at the Gryffindor table talking about their summer and chuckling every time Ron reminded them some funny anecdotes. Once they had cooled down, Hermione laid her eyes on the Slytherin table.
"Hey" She said looking at her friends, then pointing back at the enemy. "Where are they?"
"What?" Ginny asked.
"The future Malfoys" Harry inquired.
He hated them. Them and their families.
In the beginning, he thought he had fallen in love with the girl. He had a deep feeling she couldn't be as bad, as mean, as cruel as the rest of them.
Harry felt she had a bright light inside her, and she just had to surround herself with the correct people. Otherwise, that light would be extinguished.
When they all entered to the school, Potter remembers her being extremely nice to them. They even sat together on their way to Hogwarts.
Shortly after they had introduced themselves, Malfoy stormed in the carriage they all were sat in, looking for her.
"Let's go." He said staring at her.
After that, and in spite of the constant disgusted stares from Malfoy, she still shared some time with him, Ron and Hermione.
She was nice to him. To him and all of his friends, mostly to Hermione. They were both smart, quick, two big brains who used to share study hours.
She was amusing, and Harry found her extremely beautiful. Well, because in fact, she was.
She used to trace his scar with her thin fingers. That's awesome! she used to say.
Slowly, he felt he was falling in love with her.
But everything changed. From one year to another she stopped talking to them, even grating them. She just acted as they weren't there. It affected them, of course, but the most hurt was Hermione.
Hermione had always said soulmates can also be your friends, and she believed she was hers. Turns out she was wrong.
Then, he thought that maybe, just maybe, if it hadn't been because of the people she let herself surround with, she would be a part of the good side. Little did he know.
Suddenly, a loud noise emerged from the big door as two shadows made all the people in the room shut their mouths and turn their heads to them.
"There" Ron murmured pointing at them with his chin. Their heads turned slowly towards them.
After a small silence, the Slytherin table stood up cheering louder than before as they moved from their seats making room for the couple.
They walked fearlessly inside the Great Hall. His arm around her shoulder. Her hand holding his over her upper arm.
Blaise stood up grinning and clapping at them. "There they are".
Draco Malfoy and Elizabeth Astaroth had arrived.
...
Since time immemorial, the Astaroths and the Malfoys had topped the pure blood breed. Lucius Malfoy and Graham Astaroth were like brothers since they were very young, and so were their now wives Narcissa and Lucretia.
They used to joke, when they all started dating many years ago, about their future. They knew they would always be friends. And they did. Their ambition, their cunning, their leadership brought them all together.
And so did their enormous hate for those filthy mud-bloods.
That hate is what they instilled into their children once they were old enough to process everything. Families had to be pure. Pure blood always remained superior, and that was indisputable.
Simply, there was people they weren't allowed to hang with.
Their children, Draco and Elizabeth, grew up together; playing games outside the Malfoy Manor as the adults talked about serious topics.
They were very good friends for many years before they started to reach puberty, where everything changed.
For the better.
Their first year at Hogwarts was amazing. Elizabeth was way more outgoing than Draco, that's why in their firsts years she made friends with people she shouldn't have.
Malfoy used to watch her. Everything she did and spoke. And to who.
They were friends, for sure, but it wasn't his place to forbid her anything, he thought.
Reaching the end of the second year, he received an owl from his father. The black envelope contained a little paper with one simple sentence. "You know what to do."
That summer, Elizabeth was told to spend the entire holidays at the Malfoy Manor.
Her family thought it would be better if somebody her age explained down to the last detail which was entirely their position in the wizarding society.
They thought it would be less rough if the future Mr. Malfoy did the job.
Draco taught her the lesson: just pure blood. No half-bloods. No mud-bloods. And for sure, no Potter. Any form of betrayal will never be forgiven.
"Never be so polite you forget your power." He whispered. "Am I clear, Liz?" He inquired.
She nodded.
Liz. Draco had always called her Liz, and he was the only one to do so.
Years went by and their friendship grew for the better. At the end of third year, Liz realised she felt something for Draco. It was a weird moment; she remembers it perfectly.
It was one of many afternoons at Hogwarts; she was laying on the grass, under the warmth of the spring sun, reading one of her favourite books.
Unexpectedly, she felt her bad-tempered friend sit next to her.
"Hey, you" she said not taking her eyes of the book.
All she got in response was a deep sigh.
After a few more seconds of silence, she looked up at him. He was smiling, stupefied.
Before she could say another word, he said "Pansy tried to kiss me."
Elizabeth's moves were slow. She closed her book and sat next to him trying to make eye contact, but his gaze was lost in the lake.
She didn't know if Draco was expecting her to react as if that was good news, but all she did was stay silent.
"Did you like it?" She mumbled finally.
No. Please say no. Elizabeth didn't know why, but it bothered her. The thought of him being with someone else just wasn't sitting right with her.
A heavy pression started to form in her chest as she waited for his answer. In the end, it had always been just him and her.
"What?" he turned confused to look at her.
"The kiss. Did you like it?"
"Liz, are you fucking deaf?" Draco chuckled.
She didn't say anything. She just looked at him.
"She tried to kiss me." Now he was laughing. He laid down with his on the grass, his hand resting behind his head, but she stood sat. She definitely felt dumb.
"I'm–"
"Come on" He giggled. "It's pansy. Plus" he paused, right hooking his hands on her waist, making her lay next to him.
"You know I only have eyes for you" he joked. Joked?
She tried to get rid of his arms. "Stop kidding, Malfoy" she laughed back, but he just tightened his grip.
"Who said I was kidding?" And then, he planted a sweet kiss on her temple.
It was there, in that moment, she realised of the butterflies in her stomach.
...
Now who could look at them; for them to end up together was a foregone conclusion.
Prince and princess of Slytherin. Everybody knew they, together, were invincible.
When they were alone, they most likely liked to be sweet, because Elizabeth and Draco knew each other more and better than anyone else could ever. In front of the world, though, they liked to be scary, because they knew they had the power to do so.
Don't get them wrong, they also played it rough when no one was watching. Oh, damn. They did. And that's what turned them on the most: to play the role whenever and wherever they wanted.
Liz sat at the table between Blaise and Draco, glancing over the Gryffindor table noticing too many eyes looking at them both.
"I hate they won't stop with the inquiring looks" Liz scoffed looking directly at Hermione.
"Well," Malfoy grinned. "Let's just give them something interesting to look at."
With that, he grabbed Liz by the neck and kissed her like her mouth was air and he couldn't breathe.
Dumbledore stood up, opening his arms towards all the Hogwarts pupils.
"Let the feast begin."
