Chapter 42

Natsu's P.O.V.

I immediately sprinted up the pathway and into the house, straight to where I heard the sound of crying- the kitchen. I burst in and screamed, "LUCY!", earning a strange look that asked "Are-you-okay?'' from my wife. Lisanna was sitting opposite of her at the dining table, back to me. She didn't bother to turn around. Lucy pointed at the doorway, as if to tell me to leave. I felt my jaw drop, but I left the room, pressing myself against the wall to ease-drop. What can I say? I was nosy.

"As I was saying, you should totally tell Jet." Lucy spoke. Her voice was so...soothing. Like she was trying to calm Lisanna down. I heard Li sniffle. Tell Jet what?

"Luce..I've been awful to you...I've taken out my anger on-"

"It comes with it, Li. Mood swings are common."

"But I said such awful things-"

"And I forgive you for it." Lucy's voice was strong and steady. I wondered what they were speaking of.

"But you're not saying bad things about me, and you have the same...condition...as I do." I heard Lucy laugh at this.

"Pregnancy isn't a condition."

"Isn't it, though?" Lisanna asked. "I throw up 24/7. I feel hot or cold constantly. I want to yell at everyone and everything just for the heck of it. I hate being-"

"Oh, you're only looking at the negatives of it." Luce said dismissively. "Think about it on the positive side of things: You and Jet are having a baby!!" Lisanna let out a choked laugh.

"Yes, and what am I to tell my siblings, huh? I'm having a baby out of wedlock."

"Oh, for the gods' sakes, who cares!!! You're gonna be a mommy."

"...something tells me you're only this happy because now we're-"

"BELLY BUDDIES." I couldn't stand it any longer. I marched into the room, and crossed my arms.

"Natsu-" Lucy began, but I shook my head.

"How do you forgive her so easily, Luce?" I asked, feeling anger well up inside of me. Lisanna flinched, and I watched in amazement as she seemed to cradle her stomach, protectively.

"Natsu, she didn't mean any of it."

"But-"

"She's pregnant." Lisanna squeaked a bit at this, and curled into herself more. I rolled my eyes.

"I've gathered. But that does not begin to excuse-" Suddenly Lucy started sniffling.

"Why are you being so mean, Natsu?" she whined. Lisanna immediately moved closer to Lucy and hugged her.

"He's not. Keep in mind that I totally bawled him out a couple of nights ago. His poor ego..." Lucy sniffled, and cuddled up to Lisanna.

"MEAN MEN."

"I know right?!"

"How the Hades is this happening..."I asked allowed, earning a glare from Lucy.

"Forgive me if I get a little emotional. I'm just...ya know...carrying your baby." Dang it, dang it, dang it!!! I scolded myself mentally. Lucy was looking at me, her lips puckering out. Then, she reached for me, big eyes pleading. I was hugging her from behind a moment later.

"Okay, fine."

"I don't expect you to forgive her, Natsu. But we can at least try to get along- we're all in the same guild after all." Lucy said.

"Erm..about that." Lisanna said, casting her eyes down to the table. "I did something REALLY bad, Lucy." I watched my mate's face as she received this bit of information. Then, her mouth set into a drawn tight smile, unfriendly.

"And you just....managed....to leave this out until now?"

"I- yes," Lisanna nodded. "I'll explain."

"Oh, I know you will." Lucy snapped, sitting forward. "For your sake, I hope that it hasn't slandered either my mate or my baby. If so...my trust won't be the only thing getting broken." I covered a laugh with a cough, still in awe. Was this seriously my Lucy? She was so....like me. But much more snark-y. Then I thought about how the baby sometimes influenced her actions, or well-being. I backed away quickly, coming to the understanding that something was about to go down, and I didn't want to be in the middle of it.
