Chapter 39
05:04, 19 January 2018Natsu's P.O.V.
A little after midnight, we all reached our guilds, a couple of the guys going to pack up the cottage. I carried Lucy straight to our cottage, where an unexpected guest waited. Lisanna. A growl ripped out of my throat, and in a flash I had ran into my home, laying Lucy in our bed gently and then rushing back out. Now, the white-haired girl was standing, rocking back and forth of the heels of her feet. She gestured with her head towards the door, my mate in general.
"I may be over you, Natsu, but I never thought you'd be so stupid as to risk everything for fricking Lucy Heartfilia-"
"Lucy Dragneel, now, actually." I interrupted. Lisanna stiffened, then let out a short laugh.
"I've always been here, Natsu. Before you met her. Before love made you a liar."
"How did-"
"You know that you're in love with me. You always have been, and there will always be a part of you that will be." She stepped forward, running a hand down my chest. I grabbed her wrist and pushed her away.
"Lucy and I were born to be together; we're mates."
"That doesn't mean anything-"
"She's carrying my child." And it was like Lisanna has been being compelled. Her eyes went wide, and then returned to normal.
"Lucy's pregnant?" She sneered. This wasn't the Lisanna I knew. "She's obviously lying- she lied so that you would come save her."
"Shut up, you don't know what you're-"
"You've damned our family, Natsu. You've signed all of our death certificates for one pretty little blonde mage. Way to go-" I growled again, and I felt myself losing control.
"Shut the hell up and run away quickly, before I beat you to death you lying skank." I said through gritted teeth. Lisanna backed away slowly, and I knew my eyes must have been glowing.
"Natsu. How do you think it made me feel when you dumped me in front of my sister for her, huh? Cast aside for the newer shinier toy." She spat at my feet, and turned her back to me. "I've tried to be the bigger person, and now I truly do love Jet, but Lucy...I can't look at her the same as I did once before. The gods know how I have tried." I rolled my eyes.
"If this is where you expect me to apologize, get over yourself. I don't regret my decisions. I love my wife, and I'm going to love the child she and I have made together, and if you cannot come to terms with my rejection, then it is your problem alone. I won't bother myself with your drama any longer." Setting my mouth in a firm line, I pushed past her and to the door. Just as I was about to shut it, I turned back. She was a few feet away from where she stood previously. "Oh, and Lisanna?" She spun around so quickly I was sure she'd lose her balance, but she did not.
"Yes?" I flinched at how hopeful she sounded. This was a girl I had once loved. There is a reason we leave the past in the past.
"Not only did most of Fairy Tail rush to save her with me, but so did Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus, and Saber Tooth. Saber Tooth. Isn't it saddening that a guild who were once our enemy has been a better friend to Lucy than you have?" Lisanna let out a small choked sob, eyes filling with tears, as she turned and ran down the remaining path. I felt nothing at that point. I went into the cottage, slamming the door shut. Lucy coughed softly, trying to sit up. I rushed to her side.
"No, no. Don't try to get up baby." I said, in a soothing tone. "Stay down." I gently pushed her back down against the pillows, stroking her arms with my thumbs.
"Baby..." she whispered, her hands slowly moving to rest on her stomach. "He- he killed our baby, Natsu." I shook my head fiercely, and covered her hands with my own.
"No, Wendy healed it. Our baby is alive." Lucy looked up at me, and I saw how truly frightened she was.
"But, I felt the scalpel pierce my skin."
"Yes, but it didn't penetrate your womb. I promise you, our baby's alive. It healed you, in fact." Lucy huffed out a breath.
"I do not understand." I chuckled softly, and kissed her.
"It's alright. I barely do myself." She reached for me, frowning.
"I'm tired...will you hold me, Natsu?" I kicked off my pants and vest, crawling over her and onto my side of the bed, glad for the lights already being out. I pulled her to my chest and pressed a kiss to her temple.
"I've got you." Cuddling up to me, her back pressed against my stomach, we both kept our hands on her stomach. "I've got both of you." And even though we'd just went through something terrible, I knew we were okay. Lucy and I were starting a family.
