Chapter Thirty-Two

We walk back to the portal in mostly silence. Apart from the few times, Jeff tries to make small talk. We get through the portal and Jeff's disguise instantly disappears. I look at him for a few minutes, amazed at the transformation. I follow Jeff to the mansion, where Slender is waiting. It's about 6:55, so five minutes early. Slender looks between us and radiates a feeling of approval then disappears. 

"It will get better Misty" I hear, but only in my thoughts. Slender. I smile and thank him internally. I know he can hear me. I look up at Jeff and he is looking down at me. 

"Need company...?" He says after a few minutes. I nod without really realizing it. I blush slightly. He smiles and leads the way to my room. 

Up in my room, I get pajamas and step into my bathroom to quickly change. When I get back out, I lay across my bed on my stomach in silence. Jeff hesitates before laying next to me on the bed, on his side so that he can look at me. We just stare at each other for a while. I break the silence. 

"Why did my parents say it's been a month?" I ask. Jeff jumps a little at the break of silence. 

"Time moves differently here... A week here is about a month in the human world, A month here is 4 months there, three months here is around a year over there, so 12 months hear is about 4 years in the human world...It takes some getting used too." Jeff says, then he sits and looks concentrated for a second. "So for me, I kinda lost track of how old I technically am. I just turned 17 when I was brought here.  I mean we don't age anymore, but I've been here for six years in this dimension, so in the real world that's what.... about 24 years?!" Jeff says, his eyes widening. "Shit! if I was never brought here I would be about 41!" Jeff says and starts laughing, I can't help but laugh with him as he did the math in his head. 

"Wow! An older man I see..." I say and laugh again, playfully punching his arm to which he starts laughing more. He laughs for a few more moments before it dies down and we sit in silence again. Then he looks at me. 

"I'm sorry about today Mist..." Jeff says. It surprises me with the change in tone. I give him a half-smile and shrug. 

"I don't know..." I say and Jeff shakes his head. 

"It's bullshit. They didn't even let you speak. They don't know anything. They were wrong..." Jeff says and his eyebrows push together, forming a crease. Before I realize what I'm doing, I'm reaching over and smoothing the crease with my thumb. 

"I don't know." I begin to say, looking down at his eyes. "Maybe they were right..." Jeff stares back at me for a few seconds. No emotions showing. 

Then before I know it, his lips are to mine. We kiss, following each other's lips, for what feels like hours but is really only about a minute. Jeff is the one to pull away first, and I whine slightly at the loss of touch. This makes his eyes widen for a slight second and then his lips are back on mine, his hands at my hips. After a few minutes, he pulls away again and smiles at my protests. 

"You should get some sleep..." is all that Jeff says. I can feel his cold breath against my lips. I look down at them and then back up to his eyes. They look soft. I nod slowly and reach to turn off the light next to me. In the dark, I can feel his arms wrap around my waist as I lay facing him, his breath now on my forehead. 

"Goodnight Jeff."

"Goodnight Mist."
