Chapter Sixteen
06:32, 2 February 2020"I thought you couldn't come inside," I say as we walk through the woods. The sun is starting to come up, making the sky turn from black to a deep blue. "What I mean is, how were you able to change your appearance?" I ask, thinking back to how the slits on his cheeks were gone in Kmart.
"I had one more dose of this appearance changing shit that I stole from Slenderman." He pauses and glares at me. "That I was supposed to SAVE." He says after a minute. I get nervous again. "It's whatever. Shit happens." He says quietly. I look at him, confused about why he seemed so calm. I mentally shrug it off, happy that he isn't threatening to kill me this time.
"You're confusing... So bipolar. It's crazy sometimes..." I half-joke to him. He raises an eyebrow and stares at me.
"You're talking to the person who killed his parents at thirteen. So yeah, I AM a little crazy sometimes." His voice sounds harsh but he also laughs darkly. I nervously laugh with him.
~~
Around 6 AM we finally make it to the abandoned barn. We sneak in through a wall with a few missing wood planks. I sit down on one of the hay bales. My feet are killing me. I look up to jeff who stands awkwardly. I'm confused until I see him pulling the ankle cuff out from the small backpack he has. I sigh start to walk towards him.
"After this whole time, the entire walk, even at Kmart, do you really think I would run now? I can't." I saw, the last part coming out with a little attitude. His eyes narrow for a second.
"I have to go do a few things. So I won't be around for a while..." He looks at the ankle cuff again before looking back at me. "You know what I will do if you run." It's not a question, he's reminding me of what I already know. I nod sharply. He sighs and nods back. Turning to walk away.
"Wait!" I say quickly and grab the back of his hoodie before he can leave. He turns his head toward me, looks at me grabbing his hoodie but doesn't say much.
"Uh. Yeah? Miss me already?" He says, laughing to himself.
"Ha. No. Just, I haven't eaten in like two days...And if you're going somewhere..." I start to say. He lifts his head in understanding.
"Oh yeah, I forgot you have to eat." He says, bored. This confuses me.
"And you don't?" I ask laughing. He shrugs.
"In the human world, no. I don't. It's for protection, in case we get caught or something happens to us and we are stranded. So that we don't starve. Back at the mansion though, yes, I eat. I'm always eating. " he explains, laughing at the last part. "But okay. I should be back before nightfall so that we can prepare you. When I come back ill have food." He then looks down and sees me still holding onto his hoodie. I let go quickly. His brows furrow but he doesn't say anything before walking away.
I turn away from him and sit back on the hay bale. I know it's going to be awhile.
It's 3 PM and he still isn't back. I know I shouldn't want him back, but I also don't like being alone here.
Walking in circles around the barn when I here the barn door creak open. I jump from the unexpected noise and hide behind one of the many hay bales. This Isn't jeff. For one, he would have called out. And two, I didn't hear this person's footsteps. They didn't want to be heard. Then there's a voice. It's low and raspy.
"They have been here. He's probably out preparing her. Don't know why he would take an amateur with him though..." The raspy-voiced one says. A female voice speaks.
"It's Jeff, no one knows why he does what he does." She laughs and it echos throughout the barn. I hear the male laugh along.
"Whatever. Slender said he wants it done soon. Let's go kid." The male says. Kid??
I pear around the corner and only see them from behind. The male is tall, taller than Jeff, and is wearing all black. Black pants, black hoodie, black everything. From where I am I can see slight blue on his face. Maybe a mask? The girl is way shorter. Young, even younger than me. She looks like she is wearing a pink nightgown, but it's dirty. She has blood running down her legs. I quickly hide again, scared they will see me. I hear the barn door and I let out a big sigh.
Who in the hell were they?
