I was walking home the way that I usually do. School got out an hour ago and I was late walking home since I was talking to my friends. The way I went home was going through the cemetery next to the school, then through the woods. They led right to my backyard.

My mother was worried now a days about me walking home alone, or walking in general, because of some recent murders that have been happening a town over. I finally convinced her that i'll be okay, only by carrying a pocket knife with me and maze. It was a little overboard but I guess its a good thing to have protection anywhere you go with the way the world is today.

I was about 10 minutes away from my house, when I heard cracking branches behind me. This spooked me slightly but I just assumed it was some sort of animal. I continued to walk home, just looking forward. Not long after though, I heard cracking again, but this time It was closer.  I stopped where I was. I knew an animal wouldn't be getting this close. I started speed walking, holding onto the maze that was in my pocket.

I now saw the gate of my backyard and I smiled, knowing it was going to be fine. I slowed my pace and loosened my grip on the spray. ..
