when he confesses
09:44, 24 July 2025how did he confess his feelings for you?short answer: at one of your school's at-home football games
how it played out:β cameron sat in the student section of the bleachers, his gaze shifting uneasily between the football field and the crowd. he couldn't shake the feeling of frustration gnawing at him, knowing that y/n's attention would be divided between him and the game. "stupid game," he muttered under his breath, his fingers tapping nervously against his thigh. he's one clingy bastard.
his thoughts were abruptly interrupted by a booming voice. cameron's jaw clenched as he recognized just who it wasβbrian, who was now making his way towards them. he remembered all too well the confrontation they had a while back over brian's disrespectful comments about y/n, prompting cameron's gaze to darken.
brian swaggered over, his cocky grin widening as he caught sight of y/n. he rudely shoved past cameron, who bristled with indignation but held his temper in check for y/n's sake. "hey there, sweetheart," brian drawled, leaning in a little too close for cameron's liking. "couldn't help but notice you here all by yourself. mind if i keep you company?"
cameron's fists clenched at his sides as he watched brian's blatant attempt to flirt with y/n. he could feel the jealousy bubbling up inside him, threatening to spill over. but he forced himself to stay calm, not wanting to cause a scene in the middle of the crowded bleachers. according to the principal, if he got into another fight, then he'd get a three-day suspension or even be expelled, both things he didn't want because it meant that cameron's time with y/n would be almost cut in half.
y/n awkwardly laughed. "um, actually, i'm here with cameron," she replied, gesturing toward him.
brian's smirk faltered for a split second before he regained his composure. "ah, right. cameron, didn't see you there," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm as he glanced back at him. "well, i'm sure he doesn't mind me hitting on you. after all, this is just a friendly competition." cameron's eyes widenedβhow dare he of all people try and out him of his feelings for you? the blond's grip tightened as he fought to keep his temper in check.
he knew brian was just trying to get a rise out of him, but it was working. "y/n can make her own choices," he said through gritted teeth, shooting brian a warning glare, both telling him to get the hell out of here and not to try anything with y/n ever again.
brian chuckled dismissively, brushing off cameron's words like they were nothing. "sure thing, man," he said, turning his attention back to y/n. "but if you ever get tired of this guy, you know where to find me." with that, he left but glanced back over his shoulder one last time as he walked away, catching y/n's eye with a smirk before his gaze shifted to cameron since he wondered what type of look that loser had on his face. instead, what he saw made a chill run down his spine.
cameron's eyes were fixed on him with an intensity that sent shivers down his spine. the hostility in that gaze was unmistakable, "fucking psycho." brian couldn't help but mutter this under his breath before finally turning his attention away and disappearing into the crowd.
y/n, unaware of the silent exchange, gently grabbed cameron's shoulder to turn him around, breaking him out of his intense stare. as he looked down at her, his expression softened, the anger dissipating into something more tender.
"what was that all about? with you two being competition?" y/n asked, her brow furrowing with concern.
cameron hesitated for a moment, his mind racing as he searched for the right words. he didn't want to worry y/n or ruin their time together with his jealousy-fueled thoughts. "it was nothing," he finally replied, forcing a lightness into his tone. "come on, let's go to concessions. i'm starving." he flashed her a smile, hoping to distract her from the tension that lingered in the air. with a laugh, he gently nudged her towards the stairs leading down from the bleachers.
as cameron and y/n stood in line for concessions, the crowded space felt suffocating to cameron. he could feel the press of bodies around him, but his attention was solely focused on y/n. every nerve in his body was on edge, his mind replaying the encounter with brian and the careless remark that had left him reeling.
suddenly, a group of cameron's friends spotted him and eagerly joined the line, their boisterous greetings filling the air. "what's up? i didn't know you were coming here!" one shouted.
"well, here i am." cameron laughed.
"hey, guys, look!" another one of his friends then pointed toward y/n. "cam brought his girlfriend!"
cameron forced a smile, trying to ignore the way his heart clenched at the mention of y/n as his girlfriend. he knew his friend didn't mean anything by it, but the words hit him like a punch to the gut, leaving him standing there slack-jawed and speechless, no longer bothering for the small talk that was sure to follow.
refusing to meet y/n's gaze, the blond kept his focus fixed on the ground as he ordered snacks for himself and y/n. he mechanically handed her the food when they returned to their seats, his mind still consumed by the earlier encounter. as his fingers grazed against hers, he felt a surge of longing mixed with anxiety, but he quickly suppressed it, schooling his expression into a neutral mask.
sitting down beside y/n, cameron began to eat in silence, each bite feeling like a struggle to keep his emotions in check. 'say something...please.' he thinks to himself. he just wants her to say something, anything, to break the tension that hung heavy between them.
eventually, y/n spoke to him. "hey, cam," she said bluntly, her eyes searching his face for any sign of emotion. "was he..." she began but promptly pressed her lips into a thin line, stopping herself from finishing her sentence. "do you...?" y/n tried once more, awkwardly fiddling with her fingers. she didn't know what to say.
cameron's heart skipped a beat, his stomach twisting with nerves. he knew this moment was inevitable, but that didn't make it any less terrifying. swallowing hard, he mustered up the courage to meet y/n's gaze, his eyes betraying a hint of vulnerability as he braced himself for her question. there was no avoiding it now. "what is it...?" he asked stupidly. cameron may know where this conversation was headed and scared of how y/n will react to the news, he tried to beat around the bush as much as he could.
"do you..." y/n let out a shaky sigh, averting her eyes for a moment before they met cameron's once more. "like me?" this caused cameron's heart to pound in his chest, his mind racing a mile a minute. he couldn't bring himself to meet her eyes, the fear of rejection paralyzing him. he wished desperately that he could turn back time and erase the events of tonight, erase the doubts and insecurities that now threatened to consume him. but y/n's words broke through the haze of his thoughts, her voice soft but steady. "b-because if you don't, i...i would like to know..."
his mind feels like it's just about to explodeβit was just one thing after the other tonight. cameron's throat felt impossibly dry as well as he struggled to form a coherent response. he swallowed thickly, trying to quell the rising panic that threatened to overwhelm him. "y-yeah...i do," he finally managed to choke out, his voice barely above a whisper. cameron couldn't stop himself from letting out a chortleβan annoying awkward chortle. he instantly regretted allowing it to pass his lips and tried to save his dignityβ or what remained of it, at leastβ by adding, "of course i do..." still, he didn't dare look at y/n, afraid of what he might see reflected in her eyes. what if she was disgusted by his confession? that would break his heart. what if now that she knows that he likes her, she rejects him and ends up leaving and daring to wanting to talk to him anymore? cameron didn't want to think about such things, but there wasn't anything stopping him.
but to his surprise, y/n's next words were not ones of rejection or disdain. instead, she simply cleared her through before speaking up once more, saying, "and when..." she hesitantly started. "when did you first feel like this?"
cameron's mind raced as he searched for an answer, his thoughts a jumbled mess of memories and emotions. and then it hit him, clear as day. how could he forget? "i...i think it was when we went to the movies together?" he admitted awkwardly, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. he did everything in his power not to sound creepy but feared that he only drove y/n away. cameron knew perfectly well that he fell in love with y/n that very night but he didn't want to say thatβhe would be coming off as too strong and where would that get him? y/n would probably give him the cold shoulder and ignore himβ act like he didn't existβ well, that's assuming that she won't do it anyway after tonight. "remember? you...rested your head on my chest?" cameron tried to explain. "uh, it was because the movie upset you so much, and...and i just couldn't stop staring at you. that's..." he paused, "yeah..." he finished, not knowing what else to add.
a whirlwind of emotions swept through cameronβrelief, disbelief, and a surge of joy all mingled together, leaving him feeling dizzy and overwhelmed. he watched as y/n leaned back in her seat, her expression relaxed and open, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude wash over him.
her next words only added to his astonishment. "well, that's a relief," she said casually as if she had just revealed the most mundane fact in the world. cameron's brow furrowed in confusion, his mind struggling to catch up with the sudden shift in the conversation. he hesitated for a moment, silently urging y/n to elaborate further. the h/c-haired girl chuckled softly at his quizzical expression, a fond smile playing at the corners of her lips. but as quickly as it appeared, her smile faded and she too had to avert her gaze elsewhere. "because...that's about when i was starting to crush on you," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"s-shit." cameron cursed, his face flushing crimson with embarrassment. he blinked rapidly, trying to process the revelation that y/n had been harboring feelings for him too. it was like a dream come true, something he had never dared to hope for but had secretly longed for all along. "i-i don't know what to say..." he stammered, his breathing coming fast and shallow.
"...why don't you ask me out?" y/n suggested.
cameron's eyes widened in surprise at her boldness, but he couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration for her bravery. slowly, hesitantly, he turned towards her, his heart pounding in his chest. "um...y/n, could...could i be your boyfriend?" he asked softly, his voice trembling with nervousness.
y/n met his gaze with a smile that lit up her entire face. "definitely."
